‘Stop Eating After 7pm’ Challenge

Messed up last night and had a snack late on however my bloods were lower than they have been this morning - go figure! Finished supper tonight at 6:00 but probably had too much protein in the meal. Will see what tomorrows FBG says. :)

We polished off a leisurely supper well before 19.00 and I'm still feeling pleasantly full.

IMO, having one's last meal of the day no later than, say, 18.00-19.00 and avoiding snacks afterwards gives the stomach, liver and pancreas a well-deserved rest before you hit the hay.

Not only do I sleep better, but it's worked wonders for my post breakfast readings the next morning.

I have to ask, I'm recently diagnosed as type 2 and was advised by my doctor not to fast. Do any of you have high blood sugars the next morning if you haven't ate in 10 or 12 hours or more? Mine go through the roof if I don't eat. I'm also lean diabetic. I was advised to eat a snack before bed to maintain my blood sugars. So far that mostly seems to work apart from the odd drop in glucose around 3am.

Hi @George775 I am/was a normal weight T2D - or TOFI (Thin Outside Fat Inside) as some say. I'm not taking part in this challenge, but I only eat 2 meals per day on weekdays and one per day (OMAD) at weekends. I have been in no medication T2D remission for nearly 4 years.

Back when I started on my road to remission I ate 3 meals per day and I found my highest BG readings of the day were often before breakfast (i.e. the longest period of going without food). This phenomenon goes by 2 names, both of which are slightly misleading because it happens after a fast rather than at a time of day or after sleep:-
Dawn Phenomenon (DP) or Foot On The Floor Syndrome (FOTF).

Since there have been no carbs (or even calories) consumed, the glucose is coming from the liver and is an attempt to give us enough fuel to be able to go hunt/gather our first meal just like our remote ancestors did. What I and many others have found is that A). It's rarely a serious problem, B). A small zero carb snack like a chunk of cheese or even a coffee with double cream will usually stop it in its tracks, C). As we became Fat Adapted (on Low Carb) the DP rise became less and less noticeable.

Social life intervened!
Invited to neighbours for 6.
Several refills of wine later dinner is served (defo after 7)
Finished eating (and drinking ) about 21:30
Now 23:40 and I'm overfulll and uncomfortable, but drunkenly mellow. Not regretting a second.

Wil fast until at least 1pm tomorrow

Sorry I haven’t posted all weekend folks. You’re all doing so well. I’ve stuck to the challenge and usually finished by the latest of 6:30. All that said I haven’t been eating proper meals and had peanut butter on low carb toast and 3-4 fried eggs and finishing off with a few berries and yogurt between 12:30 & 6:30 Saturday and Sunday! Sometimes I can’t be bothered to cook for myself.
