Unfortunately, although 182 different substances have been identified in honey the predominant ones are sugars. For me honey is definitely off the menu.

I had a good go at apple cider vinegar and have come to the conclusion it doesn't change anything. Honey contains carbs just like jam, so if you are rationing carbs you will probably need to avoid it, or at least keep helpings very small.

I have heard of using cider vinegar, but not honey too. It seems counter intuitive to add sugar to a diet where I am avoiding sugar.

As far as honey goes it is very high in carbs/sugar at 76.5/100g, though better than white sugar at 105/100g, the GL is also lower. I certainly wouldn't use it as spread as it would push up my BG quite a bit, but we do sometimes use it in very small quantities when cooking just to add a little sweetness.
I've tried cider vinegar, but can't provide any hard facts about the impact on my BG. It seems to be mainly recomended to help weight loss which I don't need, but it is also promoted as contributing to lower BG levels. I use it instead of normal malt vinegar as I quite like the taste and if it's helping lower my BG, so much the better.

I think the honey is to take away the taste of the vinegar. Because it is truly foul!! If you get the vinegar make sure to get the one with the mother, otherwise it is just the same as table vinegar. I got some because I also have hashimotos disease, but tbh even if it was going to save my life I couldn't drink it. But I know that some people like it. You do not need the honey with the vinegar, and as the others have said its best avoided.

I have used ACV to drop bg levels with great success. Including before eating carbs that are starchy. Sure made a difference for me. I still use it, diluted in water. It does speed up the drop of bg levels for me when also used with exercise, like walking or weights.

As for honey, I have and do use it to treat hypos... sure wouldn't touch it any other times.

I drink about 20 cm of Aspall Unfiltered Cyder Vinegar before most meals - neat. It is an acquired taste and I still screw my face up, but I had seen this mentioned so many times over the years, my throw the kitchen sink philosophy at diabetes means i'm in.

I am not sure about ACV use in Diabetes but about 9 years ago I di try it every morning to help with high blood pressure. It did seem to help but as I was exercising and watching what I ate it may have been part of the overall effect.

I have been using Bitter Melon supplement capsules for over a year now, keeping track of my bgl throughout. I did notice an initial effect with it seeming to lower my bgl by about 1 mmol/l, but this Xmas I stopped the BM cold turkey. I have now recovered from my carb binge over the holiday, and with the same med schedule, I have 3 weeks readings now that show my daily average has risen from 6.7 to 6.8 mmol.l. so I am seeing little or no benefit from my investment.

Now this may be because the BM helped me reduce my insulin resistance and is no longer needed anyway, but I am in no hurry to take it up again.

Update: three weeks on and bgl daily average is still 6.8, so unmoved with excitement.
