Hi
Just getting to grips with the whole BG thing and I wondered does anyone find it easier to manage their BG by eating their main meal at lunch time and something light at evening dinner time?
Thanks

I think answers may be very different for people with different kinds of treatment.
Would you like to share what medication you are on, if any? We have members who manage with diet only and members on various medications or insulin, which would affect their answers.

Personally I find it better to have a main meal in the evening. A lot of members find their insulin resistance is less later in the day, I do, so can eat the larger part of the days carbs in the evening. 9 times out of ten I skip lunch and just have a couple of low carb snacks between breakfast and evening meal so don’t eat lunch so to speak.

Hi @chani111. Ideally that is how I would want to deal with this. The times I can do this suit me best. Logistically and to fit in with family life I find it is only practical with an LC version of Sunday roast - other cooked lc food holds little attraction for me anymore. In practice I tend to eat something LC around 11.00 am (to try to stop more weight loss) and usually have a fish salad by 6.00 pm 6 days a week. I'm an outlier in many ways so probably not that much help but thought you deserved a reply. Hope others give you more helpful replies.

I do find better management of BG when I have a late brunch, and early light dinner , fitting my eating between 11am and 7pm.

Hi Chani
There's no one right or wrong way. You'll have to experiment and come up with something that suits both your bg (as shown by your meter) and your lifestyle (work, family etc).
And be prepared to change as your body and tastes change over time too.
You might prefer to be guided by your hunger. Some days I am very hungry at lunchtime so keep eating until satiated, but then often find I need nothing, or very little, that evening.
I've just been listening to a podcast that suggests women should vary their eating regime according to whereabouts they are in monthly cycle...
That might work or might just add complications !
So try different ways and see what suits you

I have always been a three meals a day person, breakfast, lunch and dinner. Since I have been diagnosed with bowel cancer I have found that I could not eat a big breakfast as I used to leave half of it as I felt really bloated

So a smaller breakfast, a small snack meal for "smoko", then I have my smaller evening meal at lunchtime around 2:00 pm, then a small snack meal which I call supper at six.

My fasting bgl were always in the six region on fasting, now I am down into the fives with my fasting bgl..

Doing this has worked out better for me in getting my average down as well.

I’m not fussy. I only eat when I’m hungry and then only when it’s convenient to have a full meal. Could be any time of day. Been known to have a ribeye in the morning or not eat anything all day. Whatever suits. Keto for the win.

I'm usually more busy during the day, so think about food less until the evening. Since I became fat adapted I no longer eat a 'breakfast' so just 1 or 2 meals per day as my hunger, schedule and mood allow. Usually I eat the most carbs in the evening, though that may actually be a smaller meal than at lunchtime.

*edited to clarify that I don't eat motor vehicles

I eat most of my calories at breakfast and lunch, just because I train in between. Dinner is lite, and I usually have a yogurt or cottage cheese two hours before I hit the sack. I like to have an even protein distribution throughout the day.

But, I think it really depends on your schedule

Well my lunch ( I don't have breakfast) and dinner are about the same quantity, but I am probably more attentive to dinner and that I have maybe slightly more on my plate than for lunch - simply because I want to feel confident that I won't be prone to having a hypo (or more than one) through my sleeping hours....

I don't tend to have snacks, but may have a cup of tea or two, or coffee during the day with cows milk if my BG allows it. If my BG is over, say, 6, I simply go without, usually.

This works for me. I skip breakfast and have a big lunch and try to have an early/small meal for dinner around 5pm, or I just skip that if I'm not hungry.

I walk the dog in the evening after my main meal.
It means I don't need to be as carb conscious knowing exercise will lower my BG.

Eating when you are hungry at random times might be fine in palaeolithic times but it doesn't lend itself to a modern lifestyle particularly if you don't eat alone. I prepare breakfast and lunch and my wife makes the evening meal, we always eat together, not exactly the same thing but similar to reduce complication. When my daughters were at home, the evening meal was also a social event. The idea that someone might have a rib-eye steak in the middle of the afternoon just wouldn't work. Apart from being at school or the office during the day, what if all four of us wanted different things at different times of the day? It seems to me that OMAD and eating when you are hungry is just for people who eat on the own and do their own catering.
