Introduce Yourself: Answer Some Personal Questions

Hi, My name is Helen.
I'm 57yrs of age & was diagnosed with diabetes 2 about 9yrs ago.
This has been well controlled with Metformin until a couple of months ago. Now started having to monitor blood sugar daily & taking further meds.
Having to take this all a lot more seriously than I have in the past!

Hi there,
My name is Sheryl and I am 50 years old. I live in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and I would say I am a spiritual person.
I have an amazing dog named Timmy who lives mostly with my mom but my partner and I get him on the weekend. We love him like crazy!

I am a redhead - well, strawberry blonde - which comes from my Irish great-grandfather. So yes, my temper can be a little hot but I have learned to manage it well for the most part. I have a Mac at home but work on a PC at my job. I do a lot of walking as my favourite activity and at my last job I was getting paid nicely so I had a trainer that I saw twice a week - it was heaven, really. Only my ears are pierced and I don't have any tattoos - yet!

I love so much music it's hard to know where to start - all the good stuff really. And yes, both my parents grew up in mountain towns so I spent a lot of time camping when I was growing up. My father was a master fly fisherman. But I don't think I've been camping for about five years now!

I am madly in love with my husband and no, haven't had a fake tan yet. I've been to Europe quite a bit and to South America too. Love to travel a lot. My favourite cities are Paris and New York - love them both. But I am also very fond of London too.

I work in a healthcare quality improvement organization as the communications manager. I am not wealthy but am doing fine. I like my sense of humour and my good brain. Both serve me very well. I dislike my lack of confidence the most - it causes me troubles that I bring on myself.

I developed type 1 diabetes when I was nine years old, so I have been living with it 41 years. Am quite insulin sensitive - only take 5.5 units of levemir per day and depending on how much I eat, around 10-12 units of humalog throughout the day. It can be a little exhausting managing this, but I am very lucky to have very few complications at this point.

Hello! my name is Victoria, I'm 27 and from Hull.

3 words to describe my personality? Hmm....stubborn, loyal, honest.

I have several pets; 2 Greyhounds, 2 Hermans Tortoises and 2 Java Sparrows. (I'm working on my own Ark which is ironic as to answer another question, I'm not religious...)

Microsoft or Apple? Defiantly Apple. Don't play any sports at the moment, but I really want to get back into swimming and I do love the Formula One. Do I get angry easily? Incredibly! :angelic:

Tattoos, nope, and just have my ears pierced, not very exciting.

Favourite bands/artists? Have a wide taste in music but Prince, Eminem and backstreet boys are up there! My favourite music genre has to be hip-hop/RnB.

Favourite flag has to be the Union Jack.

Never gone camping, never will (unless it's to go to Silverstone).

what do I like most about myself? That I'm a good listener, honest and dependable. Oh, and a good time keeper.

And what I like least about myself? That I can be too sensitive and take things the wrong way, but don't tell my husband I admitted the latter! ;)

I have been a Widow for 30 years,my Kids are both married but live quite near.
I love walking,Gardening, and Decorating and odd bits of DIY.
Last week was my 80th Birthday so I was feelin great! until I got a call from the
health centre about some Blood tests,I was told that my Blood sugar was very high
and I have high risk of getting Diabetis.
So I thought I should join you good people.:eek:

diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 1993 but was very fit and active,not now.
family has a long history of diabetes including dad grandad aunt uncle and two cousins.
just been diagnosed with Autonomic neuropathy not nice lots of complications
always searching for more information so joined the good people on here and have already read some very interesting posts hopefully a lot more.

right a bit about myself my name is Tim im 47 and live in Tamworth ,staffordshire not religious but consider myself open minded,have a pet lizard and 2 fish enjoy running and hiking,have 1 tattoo of the grim reaper but would love more,love rock and metal music but my fav band are the eagles,?Favorite flag is the English cross of st George,have been camping all over the UK but also USA ,Mexico,Costa Rica and most of Europe,Am in love with my wife and life,I have visited many countries USA,Mexico,Costa Rica,Russia,Malaysia,Canary islands,Morocco,Egypt,France , Belgium,Germany ,Poland,Austria,Wales ,Scotland,Switzerland,Romania,Turkey and more and never had any trouble at borders carrying needles and or medicines,Favorite city would have to be San Francisco so far,love sci fi and horror films favorites are Bladerunner and the 3 original Star wars films plus the shining and the omen.work as a fork lift truck driver and a paranormal investigator but not at the same time!!
Have never let diabetes stop me from doing anything i consider it to be a competitor that has to be beaten not something that should hold you back.Have had some trying times but always carry dextrose /energy drink with me and some food and just go for it.Life is for living.

Hello :-) I joined the forums yesterday as I'm trying to educate myself regarding Type 2 and how best to manage it. To be perfectly honest, I have been T2 for several years but have tended to ignore it for the most part, but a recent blood result has shocked me into taking it more seriously. Not sure of the exact name of the test - it measures your long term blood sugar levels - but the target reading is 48% and mine is 96%! :(
I am the ultimate carbaholic, and I see this as potentially being my biggest challenge in managing the condition.
