Forum moderator nominations 2025 are opening soon!

We're pleased to open up nominations for members to become a forum moderator for the 2025-2026 term.

Moderators play a significant role in ensuring the diabetes forum is a safe, compassionate and inclusive place for all. We welcome lively discussion, but are always mindful that we are in this together.

I want to thank the moderators for their time and effort over the last year (and more!).

HOW TO NOMINATE: Please tag a forum member to nominate them (you can also explain why, if you'd like, but please keep this post focused on nominations). All forum members must confirm their nomination (unless self-nominating) before they will be added to the nominations list.

Anonymous nominations: People can nominate by sending a PM to any moderator on the forum if they prefer to remain anonymous.Nominations will close at midnight on August 14th 2025.

KEY DATES:1st August - 14th August 2025 (midnight): nominations open for moderators
15th August - 22nd August: voting open.
1st September: Results announced ASAP.

An Induction Period for new and existing moderators will follow.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER NOMINATIONS ARE CONFIRMED:After nominations are confirmed, there will be an election where members can vote for their forum moderators! A panel of 8-12 moderators is desired to maintain diversity within the moderator team.Once the date has passed, votes will be collected and the moderator team announced. We look forward to this year's nominations, elections and welcoming new community forum moderators.

For anyone thinking about volunteering to be a moderator, or nominating someone, and unsure about what the moderator job actually entails - read on. The current moderator team has put together the short "Job Description" below.

As always, we're happy to discuss.


1. The purpose of the Moderation team is to maintain the safety and smooth running of the Forum. There is a lot of behind the scenes moderation work that normal forum members do not see and are not usually aware of.

2. A good moderator will be:

a. a committed teamworker
b. able to discuss difficult issues without bias and animosity
c. compassionate and polite
d. respectful of the confidentiality of all moderator interactions
e. able to work within two sets of rules, the general rules we all have to adhere to, plus moderator rules.
f.aware that although we are volunteer forum members, once appointed as a moderator, we are moderators first, and keep this in mind when posting as a forum member.

3. Time commitments vary, but most mods put aside at least 2 hours (not usually in a solid block) daily unless other commitments interfere.

New moderators should be prepared to spend a few weeks, realistically a couple of hours a day , learning the role of the moderator from the experienced mods. There is a lot to learn. It is a substantial commitment & responsibility.

But it is a lot more fun than it sounds and there is lots of camaraderie within a very supportive team.
 
Has anyone outside mods and former mods even noticed this thread? Where is everyone? Has @KennyA made it sound too horrible and are you all hiding now in hopes no one will nominate you?
I can assure you it's worth your time, and if nothing happens soon I'll nominate at least 10 members tomorrow!
