Until recently I have always over compensated for hypos. Even now in certain circumstances I will over compensate. If I am out and about and I have a low coming on, anything around BG of 4 I will start drinking cola and maybe some sweets. I tend to be out walking in far flung places with few people about. If I am at home I am a lot calmer and will just have a cuppa and a biccie.

For overnight hypos now I tend just to have around 6 jelly beans and go back to sleep.

@Jazz97 hopefully you will find Levemir a better insulin. I assume that you will be on a split dose, one before bedtime the other as you wake up?

As for Oreos, YEEEEEEEEEEUUUCH horrible biscuits:yuck::yuck::yuck:
Just the one dose for now, but that might change depending on how it goes

Had pizza for lunch at work today - new regime! Pay day pizza (except pay day was a few days ago, we had to wait for a few team members to come back from training\project work), was 6.8 before. 8.9 now - pretty good going for guessing the carbs and timing of bolus for a lunch time carb feast of unquantifiable pizza! :)
I've got pizza for dinner tonight. Let's see if I can keep my levels as low as that!

And to whom the principle of ahimsa is a closed book that they refuse to open because it would make life more difficult for them.
I used to get those tiny weeny tins of coke - each one is 20g of carb and a couple of mouthfuls of drink. Very useful in the office but then I had a spell where I didn't need them at all, and they were just sat there and eventually I threw them out.

I wouldn't get them now because I don't like fizzy drinks.

I think I feel a trawl around the free-from aisles coming on!

@Knikki - I know how many carbs it takes to make me go up one mmol, so in theory working out how many I should eat isn't hard but I like Oreos. I'd switch to glucotabs in the house but I like the Oreos and I hardly ever get them... moan, whinge. Most sweets aren't vegan and the ones that are they usually put that gross not-real-sugar in that makes you run to the loo. I feel like yelling that being vegan doesn't mean I want to eat the no sugar option!!

Good info to have buuuttt the real question is - plain Oreos or flavoured? They have mint and birthday party (caramel with sprinkles) varieties out these days. :hungry:

FYI I had a 'medium' pizza (yeah right life would be boring if pizzas came in standard sizes! And it was from a small non-chain establishment), guessed carbs (probably under estimated a bit), ate the pizza and then injected straight after - could probably have done with injecting half to 2/3rds the way through. Pizza can be a so-and-so to deal with, fat delay and amount of carbs etc. if it goes wrong don't beat yourself up - it's a good excuse to have another go and see if you can get it right next time.

@SueJB @WuTwo mini cans of coke are my go to for the middle of the night when below 3. Have some at side of bed. They are 15 carbs now. Use a straw to try and keep it off my teeth and always have a rinse of water afterwards. I down it quickly and go back to sleep without worrying.
If above 3 have 2 jelly babies/dextrose. Since wearing the Libre I discovered I certainly didn’t need as much sugar to bring me up as I thought. During the day if above 3 I often have just the 1 jelly baby/dextrose to nudge me back. Never more than 2.
Went to the cinema at midday to see Wild Rose. Great film and fabulous reclining seats in the new Odeon 5 mins from our house. Only 9 people in, all older than us. We missed a trick though, they took pack up. Sandwiches and dessert in crinkly foil. Good grief!

Aaah Robs - lovely horse. Did you ask him "why the long face?"?
As for the bird poop, someone told me it's good luck. I think I may have responded that it is the kind of luck I can do without. Although, on those grounds, the cars in my street must be very lucky. One day a row of 5 were "caught". I think the bird must have eaten something that disagreed with him.

As well as working, I popped out to vote and have been trying to sort out house insurance. It seems every insurer asks different things - one asks to list bikes worth more than £500 and another asks to list them if they are worth over £1000; one asks to list all items I may take out worth more that £500 and the other just says it will insure everything under £3000 up to a total of £5000; one asks to list jewellery items worth more than £250 and the next just insures all jewellery up to a total amount. It makes it a pain to compare. I think I have come to a decision.

I am now waiting for the rain to ease so I can go to the gym. Then we will have fish baps with tartare sauce and mushy peas for tea. The fish is pollock because that's what we had in the freezer. Fingers crossed I do better with the combo bolus than I did last night.

I'm sure the horse was secretly smiling though :D

Hypos, rude people, ignorance and grey days.
Eventful shopping trip this evening went to Morrisons found glucotabs x50 for £2.50 handy as just about to run out bought 2, did the shop went to checkout started feeling unwell and Dexcom showed an arrow going straight down at 3.6, an assistant came over and kindly offered to take over checking me out on self serve so found a seat tested on meter and I was down to 2.9 so sat down waiting for glucose to take hold, but really couldn't be more thankful for someone who knew exactly what to do so I didn't have to stress, think a big thank you to the store manager will sent :)

@WuTwo That's good to hear! I'm starting out on one dose in the morning, and seeing how it goes from there. My problem is at the moment I've been dropping a lot after three hours of taking novorapid and also dropping overnight. So hopefully that will stop! I cant deal with the hypo symptoms. And as other have been saying, once I start eating, I cant stop!

Levemir works well for me and keeps me level overnight well, once the doses were sorted.

I can't quite decide if I'm bored, exasperated, or smug at Main Paid Work at the moment. I've changed duties, though still with the same groups, sorting out a massive, massive mess as a result of poor decision making on the part of those who don't work directly with students.

I'm bored because I find the kind of work I'm currently doing very easy and straightforward. (Apparently, I'm rare in this - judging by the carnage that took place whilst I Did As I Was Told and left it to several supposed specialists in this field to sort and, um, watched them undo the good work I'd done in the previous two years.) I'm exasperated because this could all have so easily been avoided and because it took precisely 30 seconds for me to re-establish control where all control had been lost... and there it has remained ever since with more work produced in the nine working days I've been back on the case than in the previous two terms. But, I'm also pretty smug because I was so utterly right in the first place.

Ahem. That's better - and all's well on the blood sugars front too, especially now all the over-heated insulin is definitely out of the system.

Is it time for you to become a not so called specialist in the field Japes? What would you have to do to be one?

I’ve been reading through the Hypo Tales. Yes, we all have them. Poor himindoors was given an upper right cut to the jaw during my first hypo after we met. Problems with the adrenaline surge to up bs. Bless him, he stayed. That was more years ago than I care to count.

Well, I messed up with the car’s MOT date. I thought it was the same as the service date but no, the MOT runs out today and I’ll have to wait until Tuesday to get it done alongside the service. I’ve been filling it up with all the heavy and faraway things I think we’ll need before then, including a new incinerator for the exuberant brambles. The rest of the wood pile can be shredded.
Tired now.
Night night all, have lovely hypo-free nights.

I think my already twice postponed appraisal is going to be interesting enough...

To be fair, this current state of affairs may not last long and I'll be able to go back to my usual role, which normally gives me enough variety to prevent boredom, reduce exasperation and deflate my current level of smugness. I don't actually want to become an official specialist as I'm really not interested in further study and qualifications, other than the CPD and mandatory training, as I do a lot of music related work outside of Main Paid Work and that is important to me as well.

Arrrg. My carb counting was seemingly poor tonight

Went to visit a friend and they'd made a shepherds pie with carrot & swede mash and roasted chopped potatoes but it took me from 4.4 to 12.3. Can't have all been timing as a moderate correction has only left it level so some more going in soon. Harrumph, and I got my slice of Clyde about right earlier too so I thought I was doing well.

Was a good catch up nonetheless and meeting his new dog was an experience. TIL just how big German Shepherds can be!
