I give in, I have to phone the Drs tomorrow, the pain etc of my kidney stone is getting worse not better. I am a Health Walk Leader and I lead an hour’s gentle walk this morning and I paid for it later :(
Enough is enough!

Sounds horrible, and must be making you miserable. Hope you can get some relief soon.

The invalid just phoned from the hospital. He was hoping to get home without surgery because the symptoms were improving (morphine does help) but today, he's worse again, so he'll be kept in and go for surgery some time on Thursday. Can't remember how long I was in hospital after I had the same op, but I wouldn't be surprised if he's turfed out at the weekend.

Had to keep Em off school today - diarrhoea! There doesn't seem to be any cause for that, but she's feeling OK, so it isn't too bad. Sadly, our internet was down from yesterday evening until around 1 pm today, so she's finding it hard to amuse herself. She wanted to know what an axolotl was. All I could tell her was that it is some small amphibian - and no internet to look it up. When Neil finally surfaced he could, of course, tell her all about it. (There's not much he doesn't have an encyclopaedic knowledge of.) Then he fixed the internet for us as well (something to do with the router).

Em actually slept pretty well last night, once I finally got her over at 11 pm, but I couldn't sleep for more than a half hour and was up again before 1 am. Then pills and back to bed - still only another hour asleep before finally getting up at 3 am. Feeling a bit sleepy now.

That’s a great photo of the magpie.
Btw what is a smoko?
It was taken by a helmet cam from someone on a bike

A smoko is a rest pause of around 10 - 15 minutes between the time you start work and lunch time, whats mainly so you could smoke a cigarette. It is now a coffee / snack break instead, years ago meat workers in abattoirs had a "lappo break" every hour to have a smoke.

Ah that makes sense now. I was thinking it was something to eat!

Two egg cheese omelette, tomato and mushrooms cooke in the microwave for a couple of minutes the finished in the fry pan, two small slices of middle bacon that had lost the belly part for breakfast.
Black coffee and a couple of chocolate digestive biscuits the nurse navigator brought with her.She assured me they were safe to eat in my condition, so who am I argue for smoko. ;)
Steak and veggies including half a large low carb spudlite, gravy for lunch / dinner.
Toasted cheese and tomato low carb sandwiches, half a mandarin witha small tub of greek yoghurt for dinner / smoko.

Changing some of my meal times around to see what happens with my appetite.

Mini mandarins that are aimed at kids so they eat a whole one instead of wasting half of a normal size manda'.

Plenty to discuss with the nurse navigator, she wanted to know if I was still going to the RBH vascular clinic in Decemember, I told her I have not made my mind up yet. It will be a "no" I think, I do not fancy another cramped up train trip to Brisbane and back.

She suggested swapping my / our meal times around which we tried out yesterday, it seems to help, time will tell though.

Apart from that and getting both of hospital specialist clinics both here in Bundy and Brisbane, gp appointments synced together again so all is good.

Here's the mini mandarins we get here, I eat half of one with no probs.

BG has been very reasonable (for me) around 8 - 9 all day so far - and that's with some carb - to control my odd stomach. It may be due to upping my basal dose by 2 u. It is probably another of those changes that won't last beyond a day or so. It seems I'm to be prescribed a different basal insulin, called TRESIBA, to see if I can do with smaller doses. That will come some time next week, so for the next few days, we'll see how BG goes with this slightly higher dose of my old basal dose.

Memory problems again... Neil was asking for a clean mattress protector for his (single) bed and I can't remember where I put them, nor can either of us find them. Also looking for a spare for my (double) bed, but can't find anything but king sized (new and in packets) - 4 of them. Why do I have 4 king sized ones, when I don't have any king sized beds? There must be a reason, but I can't think of what it might be nor where the rest are. My linen cupboard has piles of pillow protectors; that's after I gave a couple of dozen to the charity shop, but no mattress protectors. Odd!

Had some friends call in in the arvo, they were worried because I was not replying to any text messages from them. I could send and receive text s from every one else. I fixed the problem in the end by ininstallin Google Messages then reinstalling it works fine know with them.

The have thirty plus year old son who has Downes Syndrome, he is pretty good but does not talk very much. he spotted the salty liquorice container and said something or other, cut a long story i gave him a couple of pieces telling him they were salty. He give one bit a lick and with a big smile said "yummy", he took a handful home as well. It looks like they will be on the shopping list for stuff that he likes to eat.

It’s going to be zapped this time, so I don’t think there’s any escape this time!

@ziggy_w I thought it easier to reply to you here rather than derail the ‘fbg some chat’ thread.
I was so glad to see you back on the forum again. You still seem in pretty good control of your BGs.
I completely agree with you about the awfulness of the current situation for students. I don’t think I could have learned effectively in their position. It must be very hard for you to keep them motivated too.
With term starting you’re probably busier than ever, but I hope you can pop in now and again.

Why do I have 4 king sized ones, when I don't have any king sized beds?
We have four king single mattress protectors, two on the beds and two in the wash.

We got them for a good price from the medical supply company that I get my wound dressings from. They are made in Australia which is change and are of very good quality.

The one in the pix is not a king single by the looks of it.

Neil remembered why I had the king sized mattress protectors - we had an IKEA convertable couch on which the cover was deteriorating and the mattress protectors were bought as part of a renovation programme for the couch. However, on further investigation, the frame was worn out as well, so we didn't bother. Fine - the protectors can go to the charity shop. Still can't find the single and double ones, so I've ordered more to arrive next week. The original ones will turn up then.

My brother goes in to hospital to have his procedure to remove his problem kidney today. Oddly, I spoke to an elderly aunt yesterday (we've been out of touch for a while) who told me that she had the exact same operation done last October. Nobody had thought to tell me that. Anyhow, she came through it very well and has recovered well. Gives me hope for my brother.

My sister-in-law had to go for a consultation about replacing her previously replace knee joint and was told that the waiting list is about 4 years long. Can't think why they bothered to do the consultation - unless it's to meet some kind of target, or perhaps to get her on the list at all. She's 85, so whether there's any point or not, we don't know. Perhaps there is - DIL's granny was told 7 years ago that the waiting list for her eye surgery was 18 months so she told them not to bother since she was 99 at the time and didn't expect to live to come to the top of the list. This is the lady who died a couple of weeks ago at the age of almost 107! But, of course, she never did go onto the list.

Just spoke to my sister in law and, she tells me, that the surgeons won't be operating on her knee, nor putting her on the list. They told her she is too old and the knee is too damaged in any case, so she just has to grin and bear it. Sadly, I think it means a wheelchair for her in the very near future; she can only just walk a short distance with support even now. Much like me, but it was my choice! She would have gone for the surgery, given the chance.

Hello all,

@DJC3 -- Thanks for tag and hugs for the kind words. I've been missing everyone a lot, was just a bit burned out -- though feeling a bit better now. I am really hoping we'll be getting back to normal the semester after this, but who knows. What's been going on with you? I am sure I've missed a lot of news.

@shelley262 -- It's good to see you again. Still remember the fun times we had at @Goonergal's birthday. I've often thought we might repeat something similar again -- but the possibility of this still seems some time off.

Anyway, I am glad to be back -- I have missed you all bunches.

Just got our weekly grocery shopping delivered, noticed we got hoggett shoulder chops instead of lamb, not complaining though as they taste better.

In other news, the Blue Care nurse who does the wound dressing on my leg was saying that six carer staff at one of their nursing homes were suspended without pay for failing to have got covid vaccinated. They refused to get it apparently, and they were told get a jab by next week or they will be terminated.
