Mega-busy day today, with dinner around 5pm, as I had our localDUK meeting this evening. Beautiful rib eye with caramelised onions and garlic, salad and there was creamy mash available which I mainly swerved.

Unwinding, this landed in my inbox. Some look like they'd be very straightforward to LCify. Could make for an idea for the Hilda's season?

The IP mini is on offer in this month's BBC Good Food. They have codes for £5 off or if you're a subscriber £10 off which takes it to £59.95.

Haven’t tried it myself but a friend has posted on Facebook that strips of Joseph’s Lavash bread (v low carb) do a good job as a lasagne substitute.
I've had that before. Wouldn't have thought of using it for lasagna though. It did make a reasonable wrap though.

Someone mentioned that elsewhere. I really want a baby (pot), but with 2 x 6ltr, I'd be lynched.

I've been keeping an eye on eBay resale values, thinking if the 3ltr came up on, say, Black Friday, I'd sell the elder of my two, but to be honest, there was a 6ltr finished today - virtually new, went for £45. I'll just keep them both I think.

Thanks for thinking of me though. :)

I'm behind again! Still reading the posts but I should catch up today. Been a very busy few days what with school back and my DIL Mum is over from the USA so I'm picking up extra bits and Bob's. More later.
Anyway - Wednesday - 23 October. Didn't eat too much. Bed 4.4 FBG 3.9. Up early for the school run.
B. TAG with ADOC.
L. Nothing
D. Yet another portion of my tripe. I did have a Persimmon later. Got a couple in Lidl - one was perfect, the other needed ripening a bit. Not the fruit I should be eating but decided a couple over a number of days won't harm me.
Thursday 24 October - bed 6.2 FBG 6.4 - must be the Persimmon but that's not bad.
My body hasn't adjusted to the early rise yet and the boys are at mine for dinner tonight.
B. TAG with ADOC.
L. Nothing - was at Aqua. After school pick up had to take No 1 to a relaxation session (he can get very tense) so I nipped to Lidl while he was there.
D. I'd made a lamb casserole but it didn't appeal to me (I prefer it air fried). I'd picked up some mini Frikadellen at Lidl and munched about 6 of them over the evening and to be honest I didn't want anything else. I did have a couple of squares of G&B mint later though.

@maglil55 and @ianpspurs help please. I made some Skinny bread yesterday and had some toasted with breakfast. I was really disappointed - it was spongy and very chewy like an uncooked crumpet. What did I do wrong? Is it meant to rise much when proving? ( mine didn’t, but my house isn’t very warm ) I also think I may not have cooked it for the right time, I forgot to set a time then went off to play with Dennis and had no idea how long it had been in. My guess is under rather than overcooked but the outside was quite dark and it sounded cooked when I tapped its bottom.
@Brunneria I’m the same with eating late, much happier to eat early in the evening these days. Hope you’re having fun with the relatives though, are the dogs being spoilt?
I've not got to the end yet so I don't know if @ianpspurs have commented yet. I have had one skinny bread that went like that and it was because I had the patio doors open and it got a draught! When it proves it does rise quite a bit. Now, I put the oven on and mix it in the bowl on the glass top of my range cooker (making sure the outside doors are closed). I find the best thing to do is to knead it in the bowl. Another thing to watch is the amount of warm water you add. I tend to add under the recommended amount and gently add little by little if you need a little more. If it's too wet it doesn't rise. I found about 45 - 60 mins was about the best proving time.
After kneading, I line a tray with greaseproof and put the shaped loaf on it. Cover with a clean dish cloth and I leave mine on top of the range to prove.
It is quite dark when cooked with a crusty exterior. Inside looks like normal bread. Hope this helps and at least you know even I can get it wrong sometimes!!

So,having worked out some menus which may have seen me through autumn and winter the combined side effects of an alpha-blocker and an inhibitor of steroid Type II 5a-reductase seem to have blown those ideas out of the water. Both have common side effects of muscle weakness/wastage along with dizziness, weakness, feeling faint and tiredness - had all those + 3.30 waking and weight gain. Methinks more protein and time on the weights is a priority - today the tiredness and weight drove the menu. Tomorrow is 35th wedding anniversary (Duck+ maybe first wine since Boxing day) and Monday is nursey day so Tuesday looks favourite for more protein
B=tea and watching amazing rugby (kamakaze kids + Maro were awesome); L- celagne, mushrooms and some tommy k; Evening = LOTR, hot choc/cocoa and CCB 104 gms cheddar, 2 slices corned beef and 4 cherry toms. I liked the food but this seems to be a different game.
I feel for you Ian with the side effects. I had to deal with the same issues with my brother and it was nerve wracking for me never mind how he felt. It passed eventually thank goodness but he learned to get all 6'4" of him upright in stages. Do take care.

@ianpspurs bit late but happy anniversary- you had an extra hour to celebrate in hope it has been a special day.
@Goonergal and @ziggy_w sounds like you both have been hungrier- I find I’m hungrier when weather miserable especially or if it’s very cold. I was very busy yesterday and ate little during day but had long walk to a party yesterday eveningin freezing cold weather and was starving on arrival. Unfortunately had to wait to eat for another couple of hours! I spotted a bowl of cashews and couldn’t leave them alone - ate most myself and bgs reflected that cashews don’t suit me! Can see why I don’t buy them anymore. They are 26g of carb per 100g - wonder what my bowlful weighed? Hunger can lead to poor choices especially when not in charge of what’s on offer!
Four days to briefly record first few away from home
Thursday early train no breakfast
Lunch Nando’s quarter spicy chicken with halloumi
Dinner American bbq restaurant another chicken this time served with salad and glass of dry white wine. Later glass of red at Sheffield cathedral the sixteen choral pilgrimage- very uplifting
Friday breakfast at very hip cafe scrambled egg and smoked salmon with flat white coffee
No lunch
Dinner salmon and green beans
Saturday little all day very hectic then my cashew overeat followed by amazing hog roast - asked them to leave off the minted new potatoes and bread roll they were serving with it! Cheese to follow. Sparkling wine several glasses during evening
Today felt a bit under the weather so stuck to coffee with cream during the day when felt hungry at dinner time had
Steak with halloumi fries, mushrooms in butter, a few onions and salad with glass of red followedby sf jelly and yoghurt.
Phew I’m caught up!

Friday! Bed 6.2 FBG 7.2. Made it to the school half day but no weekend off for me. This evening I am watch the boys at theirs as DIL & her Mum are heading to a Halloween haunting event to the early hours and son has a gig. Had physio early morning and he thought the legs were doing not too bad considering all the walking I'd done. Rushed back to make and pack lunches for the boys as we were heading to the library for Lego club as soon as they got out of school. After Lego club back to mine as they refused to go home (It's not what we do they told me). Brought them back to play for 1hr then got them home.
B. TAG with ADOC.
L. Nothing
D. Picked a couple of these mini Frikadellen while cooking one of these Gino di Campo mixed seafood things from Iceland with tomato, oomi noodles and spinach. Then along to take DIL & Mum to the hauntings and back to sort out bedtime for the boys.
After bedtimes got a bit of peace and quiet before eventually getting home at 1.10am after son got back.

Thanks for your thoughts on this, @shelley262. Yes, feeling cold will probably do this to all of us. How were your blood sugars the next morning after the cashews?

For me, I've wondered whether it has something to do with getting close to my optimal weight/body fat level? If I don't eat, the feeling of hunger is not too bad, but once I start eating ...

Today, for example, I had a medium steak and guacamole for dinner. It really should have been enough, but didn't quite feel satisfied and went back for the rest of the guacamole (a whole three avocados, mayonnaise with a bit of tomato, onion, jalapenos and cilantro).

Edited to add: Just checked blood sugars and fortunately they aren't too bad right now. Uff!

Saturday - bed 5.8 FBG 6.4. Managed to complete an online shop during my quiet time on Friday which was just as well as boys are coming to stay here tonight and I have their dinner to sort out (in the IP) and I want to change their beds, catch up on washing and ironing and tidy a bit! No point in tidying too much as it will soon be a disaster area with toys.
@ianpspurs - a belated Happy Anniversary to you and Julie and many more. @ziggy_w I do tend to get more hungry when we go into the dark nights but it is for things I can't eat like mincemeat pies (which are looking at me on supermarket shelfs) so I make do with HC 100% chocolate drops or G&B mint although my LC baileys warmed in the microwave is comforting.
B. TAG with ADOC.
L. After grocery delivery - slice high protein bread toasted with Philadelphia and mortadella.
D. In between washing, ironing, cleaning etc I popped everything into the IP as boys had informed me they wanted mince with carrot, onion, peas and mash. I had mine with celeriac mash (Hubby was at football).
After I got boys to bed and settled (No 2 was being a nightmare) I had a bit of DGF Millionaire shortbread which I removed from the freezer.

Add to yesterday - I took a pack of the chicken scratchings with me yesterday which I munched while doing online order.

Today - Sunday. Was robbed of my extra hour since little people do not relate to clocks going back and waken at stupid o'clock to ask - is it morning yet despite it being pitch black outside. Hubby kindly got up to give them breakfast. Bed 5.7 FBG 5.9.
B. TAG with ADOC and a slice of high protein bread toasted with Philadelphia and mortadella. Returned the boys home at 10.30am so I could get a little peace before picking them up for swimming.
D. After boys swimming, my usual campari and soda, rib eye with diane sauce, 4 halloumi chips, salad of lettuce, mini tomatoes, 1/2 avocado and Helmans. Raspberries and cream and a tiny bit of banana.

Ah well, back on the school run tomorrow and back to Monday Aqua plus Hubby wants to go look at TVs again! I thought we'd agreed but he's not happy with my desired 65" TV - he wants 55" and since he's paying......

I’ve been awol most of the weekend so haven’t caught up yet. Thanks @maglil55 for your comments on the Skinny bread, you’ve confirmed what I suspected and @ianpspurs also said - needs to be a bit warmer than I had it to prove properly.
Hope you had a lovely 35th wedding anniversary @ianpspurs
Today I had 2 meals
NE1 spinach and feta omelette
NE2 Brisket
https://www.copymethat.com/r/lnTqajH/keto-beef-brisket-in-the-instant-pot/
recipe calls for erythritol in the bbq rub which I omitted - not keen on sweet tasting savoury food.
With cauliflower cheese and green beans. Wine

I can relate to that. It can be easier to not eat and feel a bit hungry, than to start eating and not stop.

Thanks @ziggy_w bgs we’re higher than normal dayafter as you’d expect.
Theory about optimal fat and weight could be right as I find too that I’m keen to eat more and often add in a hot drink after a meal to help me feel fuller after a meal! Sure it will settle

Hi All
After a weekend staying with a friend where I tried to make good choices but higher BG than I would like I am firmly back on the wagon. She has the most amazingly good fish and chip shop nearby but you do feel sad just eating a battered cod while your companion has chips and mushy peas on her plate.
Sunday night had a sirloin steak and tenderstem brocolli.
Monday: after satisfactory fbg had slice Livlife toast, butter, tea x2.
Lunch: goats cheese and 2 baby beet with salad.
Supper: roasted aubergine, red onion and tomato,

Today after usual breakfast had to go to the metropolis and ended up having bowl of soup in M&S and ate one of the tiny bread rolls that came with it with butter. Not so good but nothing else I could have had.
Supper will be a type of Keema made with lamb mince and cauli rice.
There may well be a G&T involved.

Well, it's been quite a couple of days.

I took all my food to the event in Stornoway - everyone seemed to enjoy it, so that was OK but, despite the special request for soup, very few people had it and I had half a big pot to bring home again. Somebody brought some chicken drumsticks so I had one of those. Didn't really enjoy it though. Due to a mix up, someone else also brought along some egg mayo rolls and some cheese and tomato rolls, so there were quite a few both of those and my sandwiches left over. I put out some of the macaroni cheese in little dishes with the cheesy pastries and they disappeared rapidly but, when I wasn't in the kitchen some of the children went and asked for more (there were 2 large trays of the stuff on top of the stove) but the person who was in the kitchen said there wasn't any more and the kids went away disappointed. The cupcakes almost didn't make it out of the kitchen - some of the children saw that they were there waiting to be put out when the savouries were finished with and just did a run past, grabbing a cake as they went. I put a stop to that, refilled the plates and found that one or two of the mothers just went in to get cakes for their kids! I hid the plates in boxes and the mothers found them. I gave up at that point and just put the remaining plates out. I have to admit - I was not amused. No wonder some of the kids don't know how to behave! Rant over.

The upshot was that I had to take home a lot of sandwiches, some spicy veg spread, macaroni cheese and lentil soup. I also had to take a lady and her daughter to their home with a large keyboard, restricting my options for carrying left-over food. I piled it all in the boot and gave up one seat to the keyboard. Unfortunately, as we were going along I heard a sliding sound from the boot but didn't investigate. Rather than take all that unwanted food home I decided to take it to No 2 son's house so that he could make use of it (his kids are always ready to eat). On opening the boot I found that what had been sliding was the pot of soup, despite the large roasting try that was holding it, and it had tipped over on its side, spilling most of the contents on the carpet of the boot. My son literally shovelled it up off the floor and dumped it to the side of the drive whereupon 3 dogs and a couple of cats scoffed it enthusiastically. Neil and I spent quite a lot of time and energy cleaning the carpet, the tool basket and the wheelchair yesterday. I don't think Neil was very pleased, but he took it well.

He had already proved his worth by managing to salvage my insulin pen which was damaged by a broken insulin cartridge (I hadn't realised that they were broken but in fact, the whole pack of 5 cartridges were damaged and leaking when under pressure from the pen, admitting air into the cartridge and breaking into little bits of plastic inside the pen. He managed to get a lot of the plastic out using a fine probe but although it is working, it is very stiff and I think it won't last long. Luckily I managed to get a replacement pen today for when it does give out. Well, draw a line under it all and move on.

I actually got around to having my steak yesterday with some fried tomatoes. Lovely! Just the one meal about 3 pm. Lots of tea, of course.

Today I had the remainder of the sausage dish from a couple of days ago - sausages, tomatoes, onion and a carrot (had run out of squash) with some red cabbage. And more tea. That's me for the rest of the day, apart from more tea, of course.

@Annb good gracious what an eventful and exhausting day you had. You went out of your way in so many ways to help so many people and it would seem you were ambushed at every turn. The overturned soup must have been the last straw even if it was an accident! I am just glad you enjoyed your steak and tomatoes.
