Today 05/01/2020
Breakfast: 45g traditional rolled oats, 10g oat bran (cooked in 1.5 cup water) and 100g full fat greek yoghurt.

Lunch: 175g warmed through kale slaw (it had kale, broccoli, beetroot and carrot), 50g sauerkraut, 47g dill pickle, 20g light cheese, two XL fried eggs in 5g butter, then I warmed through the slaw in left over butter in fry pan. After dishing added pickles and sauerkraut

Dinner: Savory mince : 250g extra lean beef mince, 140g broccoli, 75g butternut squash, 96g fresh tomato, 30g onion. Italian herb salt free seasoning. Was really good. Haven't eaten butternut squash in like two months because of strict keto, now that I can eat it it tastes amazing.

Tummy felt better today, I guess the fiber increase is being appreciated. Tummy also felt better after no protein powder in porridge so that's interesting.

Snack: two coffees with 40ml whole milk between them.

@Annb - you could always do Deviled Kidneys. That has no alcohol in it. Similar idea, finely chopped onion, sauce in butter until soft. Add the prepped kidneys, fry for 2 or 3 mins. Add tablespoon of tomato puree and mustard. Mix and add a little stock (about 10mls). Add some lea & perrins and season to taste. Simmer and reduce. As before add chopped parsley at the end. I used to always dust the kidneys in seasoned flour. Same with liver. Nowadays I use seasoned bamboo fibre or oat fibre which I get online. I tried to get kidneys today and couldn't. Butcher was saying it's because the slaughterhouse has been closed since 24 December. Tripe? Even I have major problems getting that. I've now tracked down an offal butcher in Edinburgh so fingers crossed I can get tripe in a week or so. I hate going into town (especially as they have work underway to extend the trams) but I'd tolerate it to get tripe.

I've never made devilled kidneys - mustard is another thing I've never liked, so I didn't think of that. But I think that, with having to reduce the range of possible ingredients these days, maybe I shouldn't be so fussy and I could try adding mustard to the possibles. (Mustard, horseradish and wasabe have always been no no no's to me).

Tea so far today (with pills - woke up fairly early, aching all over but thought I would just stay in bed for a bit because I knew my legs would be worse than the rest of the aches and pains. Eventually decided that it couldn't be much worse so got up about 8 am. Tea and co-codamol put me back to sleep in my big kitchen chair until about 10 am, then more tea with the rest of my pills).

I have a pack of a dozen or more chicken wings in the oven (forgotten the right word again - memory getting worse but it will come to me some time - but soaked in lemon juice, garlic, sea salt and a little olive oil for a couple of hours). That will be lunch and, if I have the will power not to just graze on them for the rest of the day, I'll put the remainder in the fridge for tomorrow.

I still have 3 eggs left, so I will probably have a plain omelette later (no cheese left except some Dairylea which I have for Emily. Hmm, wonder what that would be like in an omelette).

Yesterday’s food:

bacon and eggs
No lunch
Then cheesy mince

i’ve been decorating, and have suddenly sprouted quite a lot of white (paint) tipped hair. Lol.
Hasn’t washed out, and definitely hasn’t brushed out.
Wonder how long it will last...

Mr B hasn’t noticed yet, which I find hilarious.
Wonder how long it will take for him to spot it.

Hi All
Forgot to post yesterday so here goes
Breakfast: usual slice Liv life toast, butter, tea x2.
Lunch: small plate lettuce, cheese coleslaw, 4 cherry toms, 2 slices corned beef which wasnt that nice so left some.
Supper: h/m chicken curry and green rice.
Has anyone else noticed that Iceland didnt stock cauli rice, only the green rice in Dec. I asked and they said it was to make space for the party food. I hope it comes back.

Today’s pickings
Breakfast: as yesterday.
Lunch: 2 boiled eggs.
Supper will be stirfried Teriyaki beef with sliced peppers, noodles for Mr PM and Edamame spaghetti for me.

@Annb sorry for the aching legs, must be difficult for you. I cannot bear offal, cant have it in the house! Mr PM loves lambs liver and whenever I am away for a night he gets it and cooks for himself!
@Brunneria funny about the white tipped hair, could be all the rage this year! I thought emulsion paint washed out, its not as if you can use white spirit.

New recipe trialled today for a lateish lunch. Carnivore meatloaf. Adapted something I found on DietDoctor. Pretty good. Feeling full so not sure whether anything else will be required today. Although I did buy some rather nice looking cheese in Lidl earlier....

:D
I'm using Ronseal Diamondhard floorboard paint, but not just the floorboards. Yesterday was bannisters and other woodwork.
Looks fab :cat: which cannot be said for my hair! :hilarious:
The paint is waterbased, but it is a loooong way from emulsion.

Today’s food:
B: scram egg and sausage
L: Wensleydale
D: will be diced chicken thigh in a garam masala cream

Got decorations put away and Christmas tree back in the garden after it’s fifth Christmas here- I reckon that it should do a few more Christmases yet - crossing fingers. We have it up in its pot in the conservatory and it seems to happily do a month a year there and rest of year in the garden. We try to keep heat on a bit out there but it dosent get as hot or dry as the lounge! People warned me about possible creepy crawlies after bringing it in but personally we’ve not noticed this.
Brunch one slice of bacon and one egg with half a toasted chaffle
Throughout day coffee some with lactofree whole milk and some with cream.
Dinner steak, mushrooms cooked in butter, a few fried onions and spoonful of coleslaw with glass of red wine.
Pudding SF jelly with yoghurt and cream later decaff coffee and cream
Just sat listening to the New Year’s Day concert from Vienna on catch up - very calming. I find classical music seems to put my bgs down like mindfulness does - an hour after my meal sensor reading at 3.8 and bg meter at 4.4 .......

"Marinate" was the word I wanted.
Kept myself busy all afternoon, so didn't graze on the chicken wings. Spent the time sorting through some more old paperwork I found in a cupboard. Also found the old stamp album I had been wondering about, so that's good, as is the amount of junk paper I've put into the bin. At present my bed is still covered with bits and pieces from the cupboard for which I need to find a new home - before I can go to bed tonight.

Is the filling beef and bacon? Is there something else mixed with it to hold it together, or is it just depending on the bacon outside?

Hi Ann, I lined the loaf tin with bacon (having greased it), then the mince was mixed with a 40g bag of Awfully Posh Pork Crackling which had been blitzed in a mini chopper (that’s what helps to bind it, but an egg would do the same job) and some grated mozzarella. Seasoned (used onion granules, herbes de Provence, salt and pepper). Also added a knob of butter. Press the mix into the tin, fold the bacon over the top and hey presto! Held together really well.

Forgot to mention for those discussing micro plane graters etc, Lidl have 2 separate multi grater things in store - mix of different size graters/slicers. Also mini choppers, blenders, pressure cookers (although the equivalent size Instant Pot isn’t much more expensive), and some nice glass storage containers.

Editing to add link: https://www.lidl.co.uk/en/p/kitchen-kit/ernesto-multi-purpose-grater-or-grater-set/p28684

Thanks for the heads up. Not sure if I’m happy or trepidatious about a trip there - I always seem to end up buying the whole middle aisle.

Seems it’s OMAD today.
Coffee first thing then swimming with eldest daughter’s family. Black coffee in the cafe afterwards.
Lunch was ready when we got in: brisket done in IP ( seasoned in a smokey spice mixture, sealed then cooked on top of a couple of slices of onion with a cup of water and a dash of Lea&Perrins high pressure, 1 hr, stick blender to whizz onions and liquid into a good gravy at the end) served with roast broccoli.
It’s gone 7pm now so too late to eat. I think I’ll be hungry in a couple of hours but hope I can keep out of the kitchen.
@Goonergal the meatloaf looks good, I bet it was filling.
@maglil55 thanks for the devilled kidney recipe too, middle daughter can’t have alcohol so this looks better if I can ever get over my squeamishness preparing the kidneys.
Edit for typo

Thanks for that. I'll give it a go when I can get to the shops for cheese and eggs - probably need some bacon as well, it's getting a bit low too.

football, both the game and the culture.
  1. 04-01-2020
  2. Breakfast CWC x2, but granola and then two eggs fried up into a kind of tortilla with last nights left over vegetables. Wished I had left out the veggies. Wasn't very nice and far too much so didn't finish it all.
  3. Lunch. Fish soup, bowl of salad and slice of wickedly delicious and carb laden frangipane galette. 30g carbs. Sadly it triggered ( guilt induced?) Indigestion.
  4. Dinner pork with onions, celariac and cream. One piece of potato, green beans and a few carrots. Greek yoghurt and red fruit with a dash of cream after. Two glasses of wine. Piece of cheese.
Am determined to regain some weight.
Bedtime tea and today did manage two remedial exercise sessions.
No idea why this came out with bullet points.
