Doctors' appointments aren't much better here in my corner of Yorkshire. I haven't even bothered to try for a GP appointment in over a year - my theory is that by the time the appointment comes round I will be better or dead. My neighbour told me the current waiting time for an appointment is 3 weeks and because there is now only two doctors (used to be six when I moved here) the chances are fairly high that the appointment will be cancelled or rescheduled.

Its even difficult getting an appointment with any of the 'specialist' nurses - I got a letter saying I was very overdue with BP and diabetes review and that I should make an appointment ASAP - I phoned, explained about the letter and was given an appointment four weeks later. Then I said I will need to have bloods done.... OMG talk about difficult to explain to receptionist that the bloods have to be done before the review leaving enough time for the results to come back. Her reply was 'other people don't ask for this'. Hmmmm

Doncaster Royal Infirmary now have their own GP department. When you visit A&E you get triaged (sp?) and either then have to wait to see an A&E doctor or shunted upstairs to their GP department - which worked well for me when I had some kind of infection last summer - I was in and out within 30 minutes.

Omg ! That is very bad. I’m so sorry . I was always very jealous of NHS in U.K. and Medicare in Australia . But I guess I am changing my mind about NHS altogether .

Last week I realized I need to see a dermatologist when I woke up . I called the specialist clinic 9 am . I had an appointment at 1 pm ( 4 hours later ) and she did the minor procedure that needed to be done .

Evening all.

Finally some offal that I managed to eat and quite liked. Definite potential! Lamb’s heart sliced and pan fried with some smoked bacon lardons. Quite a strong taste but very similar to lamb. The thicker bits that remained pink on the inside were the nicest - more tender - especially those with a bit of fat on the outside: they’re quite lean. Didn’t manage to eat even half of it as found it very rich. Rounded off with a piece of the crunchy Red Leicester from yesterday. Will try slow cooking/stuffing the hearts next time.

Earlier had a peperami stick and a bag of pork crunch in lieu of lunch as ravenous.

Ate lightly yesterday in prep for Indian meal in the evening. Chose differently to usual. Had Korai Lamb very tasty but left some of the onion overload. Was accompanied by cauli bhajee and one popadom. Made a change from the usual dry Tandoori meat though spiked a bit more but soon came down after 3 hours.
@Winnie-the-Pooh did you make or buy the Keto coffee ice cream? My favourite flavour!
Lidl here in East Lothian have a coffee low carb ice cream by Graham's Goodness and I noticed the local Tesco is starting to stock it too. Graham's is a Scottish company so I don't know if they are moving it into other branches too or if they are sticking to just local supplies. It's very good though. Not as low carb as the one @Winnie-the-Pooh had though. Having said that we did get Halo Top here eventually so we can hope!

Aw thanks very much...we have a Lidl in my nearest town so next time I am there will check it out. I certainly dont want to buy an ice cream maker as spent the last few weekends donating all sorts to the charity shops inc toasted sandwich maker, my mum’s Braun food processor and a bean to cup coffee maker. Have held back on my big blender so far though I used the stick blender for soup. Putting house on the market to downsize and getting ready.

Evening all. Woken at 3.55 am and didn't go back to sleep so a very low key day. Bulletproof tea very early then normal tea and off to watch grandson at cricket skills in Suffolk - Julie had to drive son's car (guess who woke me at 3.55) CWC (Costa) and cinnamon as lunch after the cricket. Sencha tea mid afternoon then mackerel (tinned in EVOO) and avocado salad with chia seeds and flaxseeds. The longest wow (s) I have ever heard from my granddaughter when I gave her Nutella on toast for breakfast. @Goonergal glad you liked lamb's heart.

Breakfast: Usual omelette, bacon, tomato, spudlite.
Lunch: Barbeque at the bowls club fundraiser for the firies, steak, mutton chops, snags and fried onions which cost $20.00 for the lot. All the food was donated, so a lot of money was raised just on food alone.
Dinner: Got a doggy bag of snags and onions for $10.00 for dinner.

Drinks: Black coffee no sugars, beer, water.

Thanks for the new recipe @maglil55 I do like the sound of the confit pheasant.
Today I was also off piste with the DD plan
B: scrambled eggs and smoked salmon. Youngest Gdaughter has got to expect it when she stays over now. Oldest one just pinches granddad’s Crunchy nut cornflakes.
L/D mid aft so no further meals: Roast dinner. 4 minute beef (topside) done in IP (fabulous). Cauli cheese, roast sprouts and broccoli and buttered cabbage.
A spoonful of Coop version of HaloTop Cookies and cream ice cream afterwards. Very erythritol-y, won’t bother again. Wine with meal.

@Quinn1066 - I'm so pleased that you are feeling a bit better. I've had pneumonia and it turned in to something else so please take care of yourself. x

I woke up this morning with a strange sense of total well-being. No idea what it was all about but it soon faded when we found our 11 year old Lab girl had come in to season - her first for over a year - we thought she'd finished with all that, but apparently not. Her human age equivalent is 82! This means that Mr C will be getting up to give the dogs their long walk at 5am each day until she's back to normal. The boys have been neutered so no problems there but last time she was in season we had several gentleman callers who had to be chased from our front garden with one very little pug cross lad (who we called Doug of course) who camped out the far side of our garden wall for three weeks slowly losing weight and condition. I never did find out where he came from.

Today (Sunday 26-01-20)

Last night's bed time test: 6.0
This morning's FBG: 6.1
Breakfast: Half mozzarella, half cheddar chaffle, 100g baked beans, 2 fried eggs and a mountain of mushrooms
2 hours later: 6.2
Lunch will be: Green gloop - I'm going to try it with a few drops of Worcestershire Sauce stirred in
Dinner will be: Spaghetti bolognaise with Aldi black bean pasta and Naked Glory mince which is the best vegan/veggie mince I've tried (so far) I will have this with a scattering of Engevita flakes (for the Vit B12) instead of parmesan - it tastes a lot like parmesan
Drinks: Several black decaff coffee (cafetiere) and a couple of litres of water

Lol @ “we had several gentleman callers who had to be chased from our front garden”

Breakfast one slice bacon, egg and small teaspoon of beans. (OH missing beans so he had a small tin of the no added sugar version over 2 days and I had a small taste both days!) when eating ‘healthy’ low fat I could eat half a large can of standard beans on two slices of whole meal regular bread with no butter! I really did believe I was doing the right thing but look where it got me - a HbA1c of 97 on diagnosis - so much better now on the unhealthy bacon and egg breakfast!
Whizzed up some lc mayonnaise mid am to use to make a coleslaw and avocado and walnut salad
Lunch one lc cheese scone with ham and spoon of hm coleslaw
Dinner steak, buttered mushrooms and hm coleslaw and avocado and walnut salad with glass of red wine then .pudding a portion of the DD raspberry brownie swirl with yoghurt and cream.
Will probably be OMAD tomorrow after a wonderful enjoyable three meals a day weekend as very hectic with lots of meetings planned. Still it keeps the body on its toes!

Two (living on the edge today) slices of lower carb bread as a delicious and much enjoyed cheese toasty. Yum. I make it in a pan with butter and olive oil and then put cheese in the pan and put sandwich back in to get a crispy cheesy outside. Forgot to test at 2 hours but at 3 hours was 4.3. So that's rather good.

M&S little salad for lunch 5g carbs.

Evening - veggie kebab 'meat' with veg and a bowl of greek yogurt for pudding.

Breakfast: my usual low carb coconut ‘porridge’ with strawberries and cream washed down with a black coffee.
Lunch at my parents house: cold meat, cheese and salmon with salad followed by Greek yoghurt, coffee chia pudding and LC chocolate granola which I took with me.
Mid afternoon: black coffee and a raspberry phd bar at a cliff top cafe, looking out at a very misty rainy seascape.
Dinner back home: cheesy scrambled eggs followed by SF jelly, cream and LC chocolate granola.

Today :

Breakfast: bf made a fried egg with mushrooms . Black coffee

Lunch : I went out alone to an Irish pub , had a lovely steak salad, it was so much meat that could feed me for a few days but I ate it all . Photo attached .

Wanted an Irish coffee with whipped cream for dessert but decided to skip it since I had to walk back home alone.

Wonder of wonders - I got an appointment with a GP tomorrow - a cancellation freed up a 10 minute slot. I hadn't realised I was being such a pain and I apologise to everyone on the forum who've waded through my comments, stories and moans. Shan't do it again. Actually, I don't think I'm either adding or gaining anything from posting so I shall stop. Best wishes to you all and hopefully good health in the future.

Oh I’m so happy to hear that . Of course u never moaned ! And we are here to support each other . Please post ! We love to read your posts .

As for GP appointment, given how hard it is to get one in your town, I would make sure that I get a referral for a specialist , order as many tests and check ups as possible , book future appointments ( let’s say in 3 months ), and would write down all insulin and diet questions.

My doctors are used to seeing me stepping in their office with a stack of notes and past test results with questions written over them . Specially my GP knows seeing me means doing a full check up , lots of referrals , answering a million questions that I have written on those notes . So they know when I go to their office , I don’t intend to leave

PenguinMum - have a look at Nigella's no churn ice creams. I have made several, mainly for my OH and guests. The Mojito is stunning, although it was made at the time with "proper sugar", I'm sure it could be equally achieved with powdered sweeteners, with some experimentation.

Nigella's Coffee Ice-cream calls for condensed milk, which I said usually sweetened, so, we're I doing it, I might have a go with evaporated milk, and if not, work out the carb content of the "proper job".

All of these desserts that Nigella does seem to be very, very intense, and certainly of the no-churns I have made, servings, due to the intense richness have been small. You could always try half measures, to minimise wastage, if concerned.

Ann, we all vent our highs and lows on the forum, in one place of another. If, on looking back, you note you have had a few things going in the wrong direction, then surely it has already served a valuable purpose?

Our surgery isn't perfect, although we do have a sit and wait clinic every day for "urgent" issues, so that's is always a great fall-back. For the more routine things, the wait can be longer, but if faced with that, even though I could be grumpy about it at the time, I usually would accept the offered appointment and set myself a reminder nearer the time to gauge whether I still need it or not. If I do, I go. If I feel not, I cancel it.

I know that isn't the way it should be, but it is the way it is, in my world.

The private sector is not necessarily any better. I see an Endo. He is the Grand Fromage in our CCG for the Endo matters I see him about. He works in the NHS, lectures at the University, and does sessions in the Private Sector. He does one session at the local Spire Hospital, and one in the local BUPA. They get very booked, plus, of course, he has the same requirements for holidays and time away from work as the rest of us.

When I last needed a referral to him, my GP offered both routes, but to go privately, I could only, literally, see him days before the NHS offering. Same guy. Same issue, but a difference of £210 consultation fee, plus £500, per month, for medication, versus no cost at the point of delivery. Thus far I have been on that medication 3 months, but have another 6 months supply dispensed. Needless to say, I made myself be patient.

Will he continue with the medication, when I see him, post-trial, in May? I hope so, but I have no idea. However, he will get a decent run for his money if he argues otherwise.

Sometimes our NHS drives each of us barking, but sadly it has become a service we each have to manage, to our own best ends.

I really hope you get some decent outcomes from your appointment today. If you are unhappy with the outcome, ask for a referral. If referrals are not forthcoming, escalate it up. You have too much going on to ignore, in my view.

None of us get more that one run at this life.

It is a note to myself and I just want to share it as I think it might be beneficial for all of us to be able to help each other when a friend on this forum is unhappy about diabetes . I gonna reminder this, for myself .

I think sometimes we need understanding , validation and sympathy more than practical solutions.

Very often when I am unhappy with diabetes , I know that logically it helps more to just comply with the diet and stay positive or be practical.
Always I know what is the right thing to do myself and I’m not looking for solutions unless I specifically ask for it.

Here is the main thing : when I feel low, scared , confused , angry about diabetes , what helps me is other ppl validating my feeling and showing sympathy and showing that I’m not alone .

Feelings are always valid and they are not subject to rules of logic and inference( and hell I am a phd in statistical inference saying that) .

So I feel I can see what Anne meant and feel the anger she might feel about diagnosis . I’m in the same boat . I think we can always listen and validate before offering any ideas .

We should always feel free to vent , to be frustrated , to be angry at diabetes . We need to vent and Anne , pls pls vent if you want to , any time . No one here ever implied otherwise .

I will do the same . I’m angry at diabetes and I have no intention of hiding it. Does it help to express it ? I don’t care . That is not the question at all . That is just what I feel and so it matters .
