What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

14-03-2020
Overslept and high FBG waited 30 mins retest going down.
Breakfast nut granola and 2x CWC
Lunch pâté and 1 slice of toast. Salad, CWC
Dinner chicken, fried leeks and cabbage, few slices of carrot. Cauliflower and broccoli. Glass of wine.
Later MrSlim had cheese and biscuits. Stole a tiny piece of Comté. Had sugar free tonic to drink.
MrSlim got up feeling fine today, so out into the garden to plant his new trees and fruit bushes. Bit too much too soon. Set himself back a few days . Ofc he carried on as if nothing was wrong, but he did finish a little earlier tonight.
Progress today, between us, one coat of coloured paint all over bedroom1 (the largest) and the small bedroom. Also final coat all over the upstairs landing.
I put in some more seeds. Worked a bit more on the second vegetable bed and did a small amount of stealth landscaping.

In the news today, France is taking action to curtail coronavirus ( sorry @SaskiaKC ) It seems many french people have ignored previous guidelines and now stronger measures are needed. I have noticed this myself. Madame who brings the post insists on shaking my hand , then my neighbour over the road gets a kiss on both cheeks. She could start an epedemic by herself.
Many businesses will be forced to close along with the schools. The overall message is stay at home.
MrSlim is concerned that the Builders merchants will be among them. I have been unable to find any timescale for these closures. He has a list of things needed to connect the bathroom. Which I am getting desperate to see progress. However it will be a week or more before he starts on that. First there a final coat of paint in the two bedrooms, (tomorrow) then he is putting a roof window in the other bathroom ( on monday) and the floors need cleaning, sanding, staining and varnishing. This schedule seems a little ambitious to me, watching him struggle to get up of the sofa:(.
Hope he feels better tomorrow.

@ianpspurs returning the sympathy. You have a huge programme of works there.
Hug for Mr Slim and yourself with the injuries and obstacles such as supplier closures. Our programme is quite small scale but much as I may be prepared live in exile other folks' kitchens, showers, baths etc really is a step too far. They have to go asap. Take care of yourself and Mr Slim.

Clearing kitchen for refit - calculated 7th time in 7 years from our house for No 1 son to live in, parents which became ours which we refitted, the move and now this. Next move needs to be a new house -which this one was going to be until buyer pulled out at last minute and deal lost. Hope you good folk are all ok, safe and sound. Evening all. Usual black coffee until mid morning then scrambled egg on a slice of M&S Diablo cheddar, on 1/2 avocado.
More coffee
Dinner: Roast belly pork, cauliflower cheese and buttered cabbage then DGF brownie and cream. 2 glasses red.
Sun came out this afternoon, what a difference that makes to one’s spirits.
@PenguinMum hope your trip to fetch your friend from hospital went without a hitch. And @Rachox hope your journey home was uneventful.

Congratulations on the half century which, from your posts, sounds as though it has been a great decision. Do you miss anything about GB?
Thank you.

I think the only thing I miss is north sea cod and whelks, the best thing I miss is kowtowing to the lords and lady mucka - mucks that came into the butcher shops I worked at and get them to pay their meat bills on time.:meh:

Evening all. Feeling a little more human today but itching to get out in the sunshine.

Brunch was M&S Arbroath kippers followed by some almond butter and cream.

Dinner was fab. Brined chicken thighs. Haven’t brined chicken in ages. Used a mix of double cream and whole lactofree milk as the base with a generous amount of pink Himalayan salt, garlic, thyme, rosemary and oregano and a bit of pepper. Left in fridge for almost 24 hours before air frying. Yum. Lindt 90% for dessert.

Today the 15th March is our fiftieth anniversary of our arrival in Australia at Freo in WA on the Fairstar, my partner and I were only nodding acquaintances then though.

Probably go out to lunch / dinner somewhere today dunno yet.

I was interested to read your post about arriving in Australia on the Fairstar 50 years ago. My husband and I left from Sydney on her sister ship, the Fairsea, just over 54 years ago. I think the ~Fairsea was destroyed by fire some years later. Not a great ship, but she got us home in November 1965.

@Tipetoo - happy anniversary! @SlimLizzy - take it easy you & Mr Slim. You'll get there and health is more important. @ianpspurs - same to you. Getting the work done will happen but watch health first (says me who has been floored all week). I heard a squeak from Hubby this morning and it was caused by him seeing the news that potentially as a just over 70 he could be in self isolation for up to 4 months. I did point out I could get him all the materials he needed from B&Q and he could decorate the house if he couldn't go out.
@Goonergal - glad you're finally on the mend. I'm a week in now and still lacking in energy. I'm very up and down. Still at least I had my first proper dinner in 2 days tonight.
Bed 3.8 FBG 5.2. The 3.8 was dropping too so I ate a Lotus biscuit before I went to bed. Gut has been iffy for 2 days as well but seems to be settling now. @DJC3 - one thing the illness has done is I've lost another 4 lbs so that's 14 lbs gone in total now. Still want to lose more but I'll need to focus on keeping this 4 lbs off now I've eaten again.
B. TAG
L. Was dipping again so had a lot of water and 2 slices of ox tongue.
D. The DD fillet with the hassleback celeriac which is very nice. Minor changes. I had it with wilted spinach and mushrooms and I added parmesan to the hassleback when it was mostly cooked. Usual campari and soda. Later 100 mls of Skyr.
Tomorrow will be taken up doing something about that flaming car.

Had a smooth drive back home from my brother’s thanks @DJC3, it was very noticeable at the motorway services in the queues at Costa and the fuel station how everyone was engaging in social distancing. I’m finally reunited with my daughter, she really did get out in the nick of time! Anyway food today:
Breakfast: greek yoghurt, strawberries and berry and almond paleo granola with a black coffee.
Lunch: tuna and egg mayo, leafy salad and cashew nuts followed by SF jelly, cream and LC chocolate granola.
Mid afternoon at Costa: coconut cappuccino and birthday cake phd bar.
Dinner back at home: cheesy scrambled eggs and one of my left behind Oppo cheesecakes with cream and LC chocolate granola.

Two meals today - not quite a sunrise to sunset fast because I woke up late but had 2 Oopsie rolls with 2 fried eggs for breakfast. Tea before and after that. And quite a lot since.
Dinner, after sunset, at about 8 pm was pan fried duck breast with shredded Brussels sprouts, chicory and bacon, all fried off in the duck fat. Really tasty.

I should be going to see the dietician again tomorrow but I have this odd sort of cold - keeps coming and going. Coughing and sneezing every so often and chest a bit tight. I'll phone in the morning and see what the dietician thinks. It's definitely not the new nasty - haven't been in touch with anyone other than Neil and his brother.

In 1969 while west of Panama, a fire broke out on the Fairsea, completely damaging the engine room. The decision was made that it was not economical to repair a ship that was already 28 years old and so on 9 July 1969, the Fairsea left Balboa bound for the shipbreakers at La Spezia, Ital

I remember the Fairsea and Fairsky as well.

Breakfast nut granola, bacon
(Poitrine) and eggs. CWC x2
Lunch
Pâté, toast, cheese and salad Tea to drink
Dinner Christmas duck, celariac and potatoes mashed together. Probably 60/40
Cauliflower and a token piece of brocolli. Carrots. Glass of wine. Later 2 hunks of cheese. Another glass of wine.
Lemon tea.
Today we finished painting the two bedrooms. Then we raked out the floorboards. Very pleased to be moving on from painting - don't think my elbows would take a lot more decorating. Stage one of renovating the floors. Tomorrow they need vacuuming then woodworm treatment. Once they are dry, sanding, staining, more sanding and then varnishing. At least two coats. While the floors dry MrSlim plans to put in a roof window.
Also managed to dig over a small amount of vegetable patch. About 6 foot by foot the soil here is heavy clay. That was all I could manage in one go.
@maglil55 Here there is a very real possibility of B&Q equivalent shops being closed. Hope you are 're covered from your mystery bug.

Not totally but I'm getting there. It's been an odd one.

I really like the sound of your duck breast and sprouts dinner. I keep forgetting how versatile sprouts are.
More hugs for still feeling under the weather and hope the dietician visit will help.

We were a happy crowd aboard the Fairsea. She was a wartime vessel that had been converted to a passenger ship post war. Inside cabins (which we had) were tiny and a bit claustrophobic. But she did the job required of her. Sad to hear of her demise.

I phoned the dietician this morning and asked if I should go in to see her (I still have this little cold thing and I'd had an awful night with my stomach - dinner must have been too rich, or something). The reply was an emphatic NO. And, she said, they are going over to a system of telephone appointments from now on. BG has switched again to being higher than I would like - up to 11.5 this morning.

Neil went shopping for me this morning and, after he had left, his brother phoned to let me know that Stornoway has gone mad! He said the shops look post apocalyptic - shelves empty, people grabbing stuff off of palettes before staff can even get the plastic wrap off them. Many products not there at all. Veg and meat very limited. No toilet rolls, no kitchen rolls, no tissues. I despair of people and their selfishness sometimes. Still, I gather there are people on social media offering assistance to those who can't get out, so it is probably only a minority who are so selfish. I gather the freight ferry was off due to bad weather, as well, which wouldn't help.

DIL came in to collect my ironing and says she saw packs of 16 Andrex toilet rolls being auctioned online with a starting bid of £80! And people were bidding on them!

Neil came back with some of my shopping list, but there were lots that he couldn't get - no pasta at all - one of his mainstays, no onions - one of my mainstays, only one bottle of milk - not my usual kind but he took it anyway because he knew I had all but run out over the weekend. And so on ....
A friend came in for a visit this morning and we had a discussion about all this and she told us that her daughter, who lives in Los Angeles, said that there were queues outside food shops there, but huge queues outside gun shops! Neil saw that report online and also that people are buying body armour too. Now that really isn't ridiculous, it's scary.

We see and hear about the current situation being like wartime, but it isn't. During WW2, supply lines were OK for at least staple foods but that food was rationed and it was illegal for people to profiteer. Despite the bombs, it was a much kinder time when people really did look out for each other. They weren't "good old days" really, but many things were good. Neil also says that someone in America is offering special toilet paper for the event - it is dyed black. Now that is someone trying to make a quick buck out of others' misfortune. Rant over.

Scrambled eggs this morning, green soup for lunch, shortly and some kind of stew out of the freezer for dinner. Plenty of tea - Neil did manage to get one battered box of tea this morning - last one on the shelf and has obviously had a hard life so far. I will be kind to it.

Mackerel and avocado salad with lowest carb bought vinaigrette sprinkled with flaxseeds. Did have sweetened tea with almond milk, Starbucks CWC + SF caramel syrup and cinnamon and W.. latte. Day 1 of kitchen refit hence not much tea and buying vinaigrette. Old kitchen in skip new sink and base units in plus Hive now fitted and working, Alexa may soon be a very busy gal. Hope you all had a good day. Very spring like in Newmarket where a random stranger gave us a pack of paracetamol and I found brisket on the bone which I have never seen before. Put off collecting pups until Thursday when house should be more suitable.

Evening all. A beautiful day here too. Sunshine makes such a difference.
Black coffee this morning.
Lunch: turkey slices, rocket, 1/2 avocado and cream cheese.
Mid afternoon a chunk of M&S cheddar with Diablo chilli, a handful of hazelnuts.
Dinner another odd DD casserole https://www.dietdoctor.com/recipes/keto-blue-cheese-casserole it looked terrible but tasted great.
@maglil55 a stone! That’s great ( not so great that the last 4lb was though Illness) I hope you can get the car sorted tomorrow. I’m still the same weight - I think my body has found a good weight and is sticking with it. That’s fine by me as it was the bg control I was doing the plan for, I can’t be doing with working out macros etc so I’ve been very happy with this easy way of doing it.
Glad all is well @Rachox and that she’s back safe and sound.
@Annb I’m not surprised the dietician told you not to come in, will you be able to get a phone consultation though. Tales of queues at gun shops in US are scary.

breakfast: paleo foods granola (no ingredients for homemade), one slice burgen
lunch: lo dough wrap with leerdammer, tomato , mayo and cucumber. cherries, chocolate granola and cream
dinner: pepperoni lo dough pizza
snacks: protein bar, 1/2 bag crisps, 2 90% Godiva squares

successful foray into co-op resulting in toilet roll purchase! (no stock piling just run out)
