What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Yesterday:
Full fat greek with seeds, walnuts and half a small pear.
early dance class
L: hard boiled egg with mayo, some cold beef

Off to stay at a friend's
Greeted with biscuits and cakes! Had half a rich tea and a tiny nibble of hubbys Oreo (just to remind myself I never liked them much any way! :p )

Peanuts (too many) with pre dinner drinks
D: salmon on a bed of cherry tomatoes, served with green beans acan carrots. Carb eaters had potatoes and garlic bread
Pud was a small portion of Vienetta with berries.
There was an awful lot of red wine

Today
B: greek yoghurt with berries, seeds and walnuts.

On way home did an Aldi shop and tried one of their protien low carb chocolate bars. It was awful, really cheap and chemically tasting. Won't bother again.

L: 1 slice hilo bread toasted with cheese and 1 slice tomato. 2 sqs 85% chocolate

D: Chinese roasted duck on salad. Made a sort of lc sauce as a dressing. Boys had theirs in tortilla wraps. Had bought 2 duck breasts reduced to £4 from £6.50 so made 2 serve the 3 of us.
Ff greek

Now have taster plate of cheeses to watch Bake off with

We usually go to Longleat, and I’ve had very little trouble getting low carb options. I would say you’d need to avoid Café Rouge for lunch (very bread and chips with everything), they are fine for dinner though. The Pancake House is no good at all, no LC pancakes although they do do omelettes. Every where else have happily swapped things out for me. Have a great time xx

That’s really useful thanks. We’re going to the Longleat one too so it’s good to know most places are happy to do swaps, and also the tip about cafe rouge for dinner but not lunch.
You may well recognise some of my meals next week!

Storm Babet hit us about an hour ago in Cambs, glad we're not venturing out.

11am - 2 slices of back bacon and two tiny-weeny bits of streaky that needed cooking up, a fried egg, mushrooms and half a tomato. Coffee with cream.

3pm - coffee with cream

5.30pm - pork loin chop with cream sauce, mashed swede, cauli rice sauteed.

4 squares of 90% chocolate.

Carbs coming in under 17, but fats are OTT.

I'd completely forgotten about going to the gym at 4pm until my friend messaged me to pick me up.
There was a road closed so we took a route we didn't know on the way back and spotted a place that looked good for swimming so we went to check it out for possible future use.
And then we saw 3 women about to take a swim...

Recognising a challenge when it hits us in the face we of course joined them in our underwear, which was very cold (water temp about 11°C) but also a lot of fun, and those well prepared women were properly impressed by us just going in after them. :joyful:
We're now part of a whatsapp group of people regularly swimming outside so I fully expect another cold dip in a week.
I think I didn't even spent 5 minutes in the water but it dropped my BG like a stone, very effective!

I still had no idea what to eat but I also told myself no excuses for not cooking again so I threw together a soup/stew thing with onion, bell pepper, leeks, cream and chorizo. And fresh herbs, a ridiculous amount of fresh herbs, parsley and dill. I don't use fresh herbs very often but I had them in the fridge (a complicated mistake) and they had to be used up so why not add them to the soup. :)

Turned out quite tasty, and enough left for two more days as well.

It looks like creamy soup with things, not worth a pic, so instead you'll get a pic of the three swimming ladies.

Brilliant! I love your spontaneity. Cold water swimming is so invigorating isnt it? Supposedly most of the benefit is gained in the first 30 seconds so it doesn’t matter a jot that you only stayed in 5 mins. In fact I’d say that was eminently sensible!

Morning all. I love reading all the postings!!! Yesterdays meals; sausages, tin tuna and mayo, 2 biscuits, 2 squares of chocolate and Branston pickle. Looking at the nutrition of it, I was horrified to see how many carbs are in it and I had 2 heaped tablespoonsful! 36g in 100g, 31g of which are sugar! Note to myself....be more careful and read the labels! Altogether had 41g carbs yesterday. :banghead: Anyway, have as nice a day as possible folks. :)
:joyful:

Breakfast: Sardines in oil (sunflower, unfortunately but it's difficult to find them in olive oil) on 2 slices of RyVita but I'm still hungry, just had some salami slices (V. thin). Still hungry but mustn't eat anything else. Fill up with tea, I guess. That should be all my carbs today (15g in the RyVita).

Legs rebandage day today. Eye appointments have been cancelled because the ferry is off due to the weather.

Later will be a pork chop with Brussels sprouts and some left over butter sauce from the chicken - still some chicken left as well but there's enough extra sauce to go with the pork. Taking a chance on the Brussels sprouts, so we'll see how that goes.

Skipped breakfast
Heavy duty cleaning = tough exercise
L: a salad from the shop, with cooked chicken and olives added. 1 bite of hubbys flapjack, but handed most of the bite back to him, sooo sweet. Hated that is was clearly labelled "treat" and was part of a meal deal. Sandwich alone £3.40, add drink and flapjack for only 40p more. My salad and bits came to nearly £9 (except the salad was reduced)

D: 2 sausages with cabbage and green beans with a good tablespoon avjar sauce.
One third of a caramel protein pot, served with 2 teaspoons cream and chopped walnuts and 85% chocolate
I tiny glass red.

Evening all

Today:

B: two poached eggs topped with a knob of butter, slices of avocado and crevettes seasoned with black pepper.
Water to swallow tablet.
Espresso.

L: Walnut and mushroom nut roast made with onions, eggs and flax 'egg', garlic, stock and rosemary.
Vegetable tray bake using broccoli, cauliflower, sweet red peppers and leeks.
Steamed French beans smothered with butter.
Water to drink.
Strawberries and Greek full-fat yoghurt.

D: Seafood salad made with king prawns and kalamari, lettuce, Romano peppers, celery, baby plum tomatoes, lemon verbena and salad onions, with a dollop of home-made aioli for dipping, topped with toasted pistachios.
Water to swallow tablets.

Had two scrambled eggs made with cream at about 11.30am. Followed by coffee and cream.

3pm ate 85g of apple, think I must ok with apples, as an hour and half after eating my BG was 4.9.

I was going to have smoked mackerel for dinner but when I looked at the packet I'd bought mackerel with a sweet chilli coating. Bit too many carbs for today, I'd be tripping over my 20g of carbs quota, so I opened a 100g tin of tuna instead, mixed the tuna with mayo and a diced stalk of celery.

Great result with the Apple @JenniferM55 I’m still having very thin slivers and making one apple last a week!
Todays food, still using up oddments before setting off on hols tomorrow.
Late morning - leftover broccoli cheese. I definitely had some nuts and slices of cheese somewhere along the line but can’t remember when.
D- H/m venison burger topped with melted cheese and crispy bacon. 2 glasses red
Decaf coffee with a lot of cream, still haven’t finished the pot though.

Morning all. Went out for brunch yesterday before going to the Diabetic Retinopathy van. Had 2 sausages, 2 slices lovely bacon, 2 beautifully fried eggs and fried mushrooms. For tea, I had my usual tuna and mayo which I really enjoy. Will have to raid the fridge or freezer today as I am not venturing out in this weather! Have as nice a day as possible folks. :)

I want to make something like a shepherd's pie this weekend.

I've never seen a shepherd's pie in my life, but it sounds very tasty.
You lot being mainly from the UK, you've all eaten and cooked hundreds of shepherd's pies of course. So any tips or favourite recipes are welcome. :)

This is the recipe I found and plan to follow (unless you tell me otherwise): https://www.hairybikers.com/recipes/view/shepherds-pie-with-cauliflower-mash

I don't have lamb mince so I thought to use beef and some chopped chicken livers for extra flavour.
