What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

I haven’t eaten potatoes with a meal for over a year, but did eat rather too many crisps that were on offer for free in a hotel lounge in December. Didn’t do too much damage at all. Potatoes are the one big carb that I miss.
Me too so would be great if worked. I’ve also read if you boil and cool old potatoes a few times and then open freeze and store in bag in freezer until needed and then roast in oil it may be better but again an experiment to try!

Yum very interesting def will give it a go.... I’m going to mums on Easter Monday taking salads so feel a cooking session coming on!

Thanks @shelley262 only a little monster and I'd forgotten how lovely the smell of toast is. I budgeted well and no spike. A question, where do you buy your erythritol from please? I've just been using Truvia and didn't know there was any difference between Erythritol and xylitol. Well to be honest, until 8 months ago I'd never heard of them!!

Amazon is the cheapest I’ve found - I buy the granulated version in a 1kg pack it’s a good natural sweetener comes well recommended in my opinion is just like sugar in taste use in cakes mainly and more importantly has no impact on my bgs. I also use stevia liquid drops too sometimes for a mousse for example where you just need a touch of sweetness but no granular impact.

Good evening. Late check in for me - been cooking the good ol’ choc olive oil cake for my Macmillan Whodunnit evening tomorrow.
All this talk of potato salad is making me want some. Also a lot of people indulging in a Wednesday glass of red, just what I fancy but irritatingly haven’t got.

Best news today: my HbA1c result is 41. This time last year was 66 (but Ive only been properly addressing it since I found this site earlier this year) so I’m chuffed to bits. And wishing even more that I had a glass of red to celebrate with.

Brunch: smoked mackerel salad with hard boiled egg, avocado olives and leaves.
Adonis Blondie bar a bit later

Dinner: Fathead pizza with sugar free jelly and cream afterwards.

@SueJB your meal sounds heavenly.

@ziggy_w so glad you’re finally starting to feel more human.

Thanks @shelley262 I'll get some as I think the stuff they sell in Sainsbury's is a rip off

@shelley262 any particular brand?

Big congrats on your result @DJC3 - that's brilliant!! Was 41 around what you were expecting based on your home testing readings?

Oh, this is wonderful, @DJC3. Absolutely brilliant results on your HbA1c. Congrats. I am very happy for you.

Actually I was hoping it’d be lower but it seems churlish to be miserable about what is a good result!

Ive been using the MySugr App which a few people on here have, and have said is pretty accurate - my average on that is 38

I think it may be the morning rise which Im still experiencing, but don’t necessarily notice, especially if I skip breakfast - I’ll take fbg then not test again til lunch, meantime the bg has probably risen but not been recorded by me.

I felt so nervous logging into the patient access site for the results - worse than waiting for exam results at school.

I feel so relieved now though, knowing that I can do something about it and that all the advice and help Ive had on here has been spot on. I certainly wouldn’t have done it if I hadn’t found this forum. I’m so grateful to everyone here.

Well 41 is still 'non diabetic' so I expect your GP/nurse is going to be thrilled with you! It is very close to 38 - so like you say, if you'd caught a few more morning readings it might have been spot on. Well done you - I'm really chuffed for you.

I use MySugr and found it very close to lab results. That’s based on a minimum of fasting, after breakfast and before and after dinner. You could be right about not testing from fasting til lunchtime, my post breakfast reading is 9 times out of 10 the highest of the day. MySugr has always been lower, (range between 0.1 and 1.6 lower) than my lab results.

That’s great news @DJC3 and very well deserved!

It’s very difficult for the averages from finger testing to be an accurate prediction of HbA1c unless you’re testing very frequently as they’re measuring different things - my last 3 HbA1cs have all been higher than meter reading averages.

I've stopped metformin and ironically lost my appetite too.
Yesterday I had 2 naughty crumpets with butter on.
Then nothing.
Then a few fish fingers and went to bed. I'd been tired all day but hubby fed me before sleep. I've slept from 5pm til 5am this morning.
Woke energetic for a change.

Today I have a protein filled day planned.
Hoping to visit a cheap restaurant where everyone carb fills but I chose protein foods only. Hoping they have plenty of garlic and ginger mussels.
I'll hopefully post tomorrow if I'm successful.

@DJC3 missed this yesterday evening - early night but congrats you must be absolutely thrilled by your reduction you are in the non diabetic range and in such a short time since you began to turn it round. Keep going girl you’re doing great and should be proud of what you’ve achieved so far well done.
