What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

@ianpspurs

I think the portion size thing is a bit of a red herring.

I mean, I look at some of the photos on here (thinking particularly about @Rachox's beautifully presented pics) and the first thing I think is 'wot tiny portions!!!'.
But then I remember that Rachox eats 3 times a day, with dessert and often snacks.

In contrast, I eat probably twice a day, and my idea of a snack is a couple of squares of 70% choc.

If we piled all Rachox's food onto one plate, and all of mine on another, I wouldn't be surprised if she was eating more volume than me, but with the inclusion of her veg, and the fact that I am carni, and eating keto macros, mine is probably more nutrient dense.

(please correct me if you disagree with any of that speculation, @Rachox !)

So basically, it boils down to horses for courses.

I am always highly amused by my husband's intake. He eats lowish carb, while I am carnivore.
So I put equal quantities of meat on both our plates, and then he adds about 1.5 x as much in veg on top of that. With cheese and butter. And so long as he doesn't add carbs, his weight stays the same, or drops.
For me, my weight stays the same unless I add carbs, in which case it rises.

As I say, each to their own.

I think you are right @Brunneria . My dinners (pics above) are smaller than I ate before going low carb (you can actually see plate around my current meals!) But I do like my salad and veg, so I won’t be going carnivore anytime soon :joyful:
As we always say, what works for one won’t work for another x

Thanks @Brunneria, @shelley262 , @Goonergal and @DJC3 I think I have to accept that currently LC is a reasonable way of managing bg control. It is easy enough for me to follow provided I drink vast quantities of tea and stay within a fairly narrow range of foods - mainly salad, eggs, avocado and cheese. Right now I don't need anything beyond functionality from food. @DJC3 the point about us all being a unique product of nature and nurture seems good to me. My response to LC is probably exactly right for me based on the balance of my genetics and life story. I guess just because you guys function really well eating as you do does not mean how I function eating LC is not entirely appropriate for me. What I take as acceptable/liveable for me needs much more careful thought. I churn out reasonable figures without much feeling of pleasure - just meeting targets It is all a bit like going through a series of 6 monthly performance management reviews with targets set for an entirely different person Thanks ladies and sorry about all the posts.

Bed 7.5 FBG 7.3. Still having these unexplained surges though. @Viv19 - there's a recipe for cinnamon roll cake on my CMT. I use Monkfruit for the sweetener and I ice it with the alternative that I mention in the notes. @DJC3 - no, I haven't seen Yesterday yet but it is one that appeals to me as does Rocketman. @zauberflote - nice to see your visit even if it was a flying one. I do hope things get more restful for you. I thought of you when I noticed there are numerous performances of Die Zauberflote at this year's Glyndebourne Festival. They are also transmitting it free online on 4 August - https://www.glyndebourne.com/
I too am suffering from a 'sweet' thing at the moment. I'm going to make creme brulees for later.
The boys have been returned home. Little one was a nightmare last night. Nearly 10pm before he finally went to sleep then woke at 5.30am!!
B. TAG with ADOC.
L. Nothing - was too busy trying to catch up with cleaning and ironing before I collected the whirlwinds. Gave my large fridge freezer a good clean and organise in the morning ready for 2 shopping deliveries which made unpacking and storing so much easier. Still find some of the substitutions quite weird. Mortadella with paprika - they sent Turkey bacon rashers. Tassimo Milk Creamers for Hubby - they sent Hot Chocolate! Back they went. Delivery guy said weirdest he'd had was customer ordered toilet rolls - they sent sausage rolls.
D. Dictated by the boys - mince with carrot and onion, peas- they all had mash - I had a slice of skinny bread.
Much later - a little of Morrisons high protein ice cream with raspberries.
Right now I want a nap.

Nothing in the menu deserves a hug but tiredness for being a supergran does.

Eaten today:

Cashew nuts
Bits dark chocolate
Black coffee x3

Breakfast about 9:30...I was a bit late today even though I've been awake since 3am
Eggs and cheese thrown in microwave
cwc

I felt completely full up and so I forgot to have my strawberries and cream. I didn't remember food until 2 pm, but it's really too late for me to eat as regards my reflux.
But I had iceberg lettuce leaves and baby spinach leaves and a couple of slices of ham. And I buttered the lettuce leaf and made it into a sandwich. Oh, I had sliced cucumber as well.

But I feel a bit heated up, and when I checked the ham it had muscovado sugar in it, and below that in list of ingredients was 5% honey. I am not pleased. I thought I had read all the ingredients before I bought it. I know I have had too much sugar for me. I read ingredients and put things back and then read another, I must have picked the wrong one.

I want to eat something with sugar in it now, but it will make me ill. That stupid ham has created my need for sugar.

Not happy

@gennepher - we all make mistakes and it is amazing what can be lurking in bought products. I was reading an article by Caroline Ketchum today (All Day I Dream about Food) on bought high protein/low sugar ice cream and was horrified to discover that Halo Top have fiddled with their recipe and is no longer Keto friendly. I never even noticed. @zauberflote - I gave you the wrong link for Die Zauberflote - here's the correct one. https://www.glyndebourne.com/events/watch-the-magic-flute/
@ianpspurs - thanks for the hug. Grandchildren can indeed be exhausting and I have them Tuesday - Thursday next week. Mum & Dad are off to Manchester to see the Book of Morman and are staying over (it's their anniversary). If the little one behaves I'll take them out and hopefully exhaust him. Never mind, not long until we head South to meet up with the in laws again (who are currently singing their way through Salzburg.
Anyway - today

B. TAG with ADOC. Delayed breakfast. Feeding the munchkins first.
Brunch. 2 sausages, fried egg and 2 rashers crispy streaky bacon.
D. Usual Campari and soda. Beef and Ale stew with roasted radish and green beans. I shall look longingly at Hubby's pastry (time to get back to experimenting with that again.
Since Halo Top is now off my permitted list now, I've made a batch if creme brulees which are now chilling nicely. Will have some berries with them.
Tomorrow is a rest day and a morning visit to Aqua.

Thanks maglil55, I’ll have a look at the cinnamon rolls. Trouble is I might not have much control over portion size.
Is the Swerve you use the granular sugar substitute or the ‘confectioner’s sugar’ one?

Evening all. Lovely long walk along the Thames and the Regent’s Canal (despite a burst of rain) to meet @DJC3 today and then another walk along the Grand Union canal with djc3, but not before 2 @ianpspurs sized mugs of tea with cream had been consumed at Starbucks. Very generous portion of cream, too.

OMAD day with a dinner of roasted shoulder of lamb with rosemary followed by 2 of the pick and mix 75% chocolates from America and a small bag of salted almonds (also brought home from holiday).

@maglil55 what a shame about the halo top; those crime brûlée’s sound good.

Not sure if enjoying is the right word, but watching the end of the World Cup Final.

Breakfast was 1/2 a DD breakfast sandwich - 1 fried egg on 20g Emmental on 20g ham. CWC
Mid morning more CWC with @Goonergal before a lovely canal walk ( short stroll by @Goonergal ‘s standard)
Late lunch 1/2 of M&S meat’zza which was ok but don’t think I’ll bother again. Still hungry afterwards so another slice Emmental and 10g Montezuma’s absolute black.
It’s getting a bit late to eat again today so will try to stick it out. Maybe DCWC later. Currently watching the cricket and going through gallons of TWAM it’s catching!

Breakfast one slice of bacon, sausage and egg - 1.5 g of carb if count egg as one - opinions vary on this my egg box says 0 but have read 1 on some carb counters!
Lunch 50g in total of mixed cheeses, celery, 2 lc crispbreads and 20g of walnuts - think total 3g carbs followed by 20g of 100% choc which was 3g - so lunch total 5g carbs
Cream during morning for coffee and some for evening decaf approx 2.5 g carbs
Dinner beef casserole - about 125g of beef - served with 150g of broccoli mixed with cauliflower (4 florets 2 of each) carb count 6 g of carb followed by hm rhubarb mousse ( servedin expresso coffe cup) made with home grown rhubarb with spoon yoghurt - worked out at 2g of carb per portion
My carb totals are 18g of carbs so even if some under estimation is below my max.
Edit Also to note started breakfast at 10.15 and had finished dinner by 6.15pm . Only have black weak tea in my non eating 16hour min period.

Very little variation again today but this menu is suiting my main aim currently and fbg is all I'm testing lately - 4.4 today. Ate 3 times within 5 hours. Tea a plenty until approx 1.30. Red fox cheese and cucumber sandwich with last of schniederbrot protein bread, 4 vine cherry tomatoes and cucumber slices. Sometime later had 10 cal jelly and Fage 0%. Evening was hard boiled eggs (3) and avocado salad - edible flowers and leaves plus chicory in the mix. Fortunately, that menu suits me fine.
ETA: Had some comte and another 10 cal jelly to celebrate world cup win.

Thanks.

That's not good, the ingredients in the ice cream being changed. It takes us long enough to find suitable products to eat, and so we don't check the ingredients again...

I can't wait until tomorrow morning so I can be 100% back on track again, but my reading tonight is elevated, presumably because of the excessively sweetened ham, so that might (or might not) affect my fasting blood glucose in the morning.

Hope you can find another product.

Breakfast: my usual low carb coconut ‘porridge’ with strawberries and cream washed down with a black coffee.
Lunch: gammon slow cooked in Orange Fanta zero, one small roast potato, mixed veg and gravy thickened with flax, followed by SF jelly, cream and LC chocolate granola. (Picture to show the size of my roast dinner compared to hubby’s! @Brunneria :joyful:)
Mid afternoon: mint carb killa bar and black coffee.
Tea (not at ILs this week as I couldn’t pull myself away from Wimbledon men’s singles final!): gouda and chorizo rollitos, cauliflower and broccoli salad, pork scratchings and a few mini silver skin onions followed by peanut halo top lolly.

I think it is in my own interests to post here regularly so that I can stop the carb creep. I did well today despite the tension of the men's tennis final and the cricket. I did spend most of the day on the sofa!
B. Columbian eggs. Eggs scrambled with chopped baby plum tomatoes and chilli served on crushed avocado sprinkled with lime juice. Black tea, black coffee.
L. 2 small black bean empanadas with cucumber and tomato. Greek yoghurt and 2 big strawberries.
Snack. Small handful of cashew nuts.
D. Beetroot and mint dip with crudite, then mackerel fillet and salad. Greek yoghurt, 2 strawberries with a sprinkling of high protein granola.

Thank you so much for taking the trouble to weigh and measure as well as photograph your meals today. It does help to know what a small portion really is, (and your food looks lovely)
