football, both the game and the culture.
Today, 09-08-19
Breakfast, but granola, 2 boiled eggs, actually boiled six so some in reserve for hectic day tomorrow.
Lunch beau et bon bread, 30ish g it's the nearest thing I have found to burgen bread,
Ham, cheese, and tomato chutney. Followed by Greek yoghurt with a nectarine chopped into it.
Dinner, still on the low effort food, plaice fillet in breadcrumbs with vegetable cakes? Patties? and fresh French beans. Had a chocolate dessert purely to make up calories. Several glasses of rose, medication for stress.
We now have power and lights everywhere but still the oven refuses to work. Can use the hob though .
Phone call to daughter, girls very excited, she is packing ofc. Weather gusty fresh breeze, am thinking they may not have a smooth crossing tomorrow.

To all gin lovers @DJC3 and @Bubbsie take note this morning in Sainsbury found Whitleys Blood Orange gin for £14. Just poured on with ST...delicious...if I can have oranges (my favourite fruit) it seems I have found another way!

Ooh thanks. There’s a Sains near youngest daughter so I’ll ask her to pick me up a bottle. Funnily enough I was just sitting here thinking how much I fancied a G&t ( or soda which I tend to have now, recommended by @shelley262 - easier to find than proper slimline tonic @Viv19 , takes a little getting used to but I actually prefer it now - can taste the gin more!)

Such strange weather here today, quite warm still but so windy and really heavy rain every 20 mins or so. Quite unsettling, got soaked 3 times.
Rang the changes with breakfast of coconut porridge with strawberries and cream.
Lunch was the final ladleful of ham and cabbage soup ( far more delicious than it sounds) with a buttered flaxseed bun and cheese. Gk yoghurt and sf jelly.
Dinner: 2 garlic chicken thighs done in IP, with asparagus. 2 glasses red.
Mr C returned from a day in Truro with a bag of Hotel Chocolate goodies for me, bless him! The 100% cocoa buttons, batons and a 90% slab. I still have 25 of the 30g Montezuma’s bars left and most of a 2.5kg bag of Callebaut 100% buttons so I’m going to need some cast iron willpower and a bigger cupboard.
Had 2 of the batons and I’m feeling virtuous for not having more.

Evening all.

Two meals again today, plus a sneaky snack.

Lunch was 4 rashers bacon and 2 fried eggs with a little grated cheese. About an hour later finished off the remainder of the cake I baked for work - less than half a slice, with a bit of cream on top.

Dinner was slow cooked oxtail. Yum!

@Annb here’s a link to a quick guide to intermittent fasting:

https://www.dietdoctor.com/intermittent-fasting

I try to eat within a 5 hour window and fast in between. This is usually lunch around 12 or 1pm and dinner between 5 and 6. Tend towards the earlier times. I also try to do at least one day a week where I eat only one meal, usually at the weekend. Used to do a lot more often but it’s harder now I’ve dropped a lot of weight. It was a game changer for both BG and weight loss.

Thanks for that. I've just gone through it and it makes sense. I'll have to think about how to manage it before I make a start. I do have plenty of health problems and I am old so I should ask my doctor, but there's little point in that. He'll only say no.

@Annb I see you've already had some replies on IF from @Viv19 & @Goonergal. I was going to suggest Diet Doctor too. I think the great thing about IF is you can vary it to suit you're own needs there are so many variations on it. I always think of it as a way to confuse your body if you're stuck. I put 5 lbs on while on holiday. The last few days since I came back have been pretty much OMAD and I've already dropped 3 of these 5lbs. That I reckon is down to 1) not having breakfast every day 2) not drinking alcohol everyday 3) confusing the body with one meal and 4) probably stress with the ceiling collapse etc,

Bed 6.7 FBG 7.6. Busy, busy day. Off early to get the boys, pick up SIL , park the car on a bus route and get to the venue in time to get the tickets from a Fringe box office and get to the show. Huge success. No 1 volunteered to go on stage and had the longest stint up there with a T Rex and another ferocious beast. He did confess after that I was correct, you do forget they're not real. Little brother was convinced he would be eaten by the T Rex. I agree @DJC3 - Weather is nuts. Bottom of our road flooded again and we had torrential rain again when trying to leave the venue. The promised thunderstorms haven't materialised - yet!
Still waiting on the asbestos report (I can"t decide if that's good or not). They have at least appointed a contractor who will carry out all the work but they have to wait too until we find out the asbestos results.
B. TAG with ADOC (just was in a rush to get away)
L. Nothing at Dinosaur Zoo.
D. Pack of the salami crisps. 1/2 meat'zza pizza with salad of lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, 1/2 avocado, helmans. Few blackberries and raspberries.
@ianpspurs - hope you feel better soon. You've reminded me that I must make more skinny bread.

Dinosaur zoo sounds brilliant. Brave lad volunteering to go on stage.
Fingers crossed the asbestos report isn’t too long, it must be a bit of a worry.

I’ve just looked at the package of the Hotel Chocolate 100% dark Ecuador batons Mr C got me yesterday. These aren’t the same as those I’ve had previously. They say 0 carbs!!!!
Looked on website and it’s the same 0 carbs. This can’t be right can it? I’m buying the shop out if it is.

I really like the taste of tonic but if I can’t find it will try the soda! Thanks DJC3.

You’re only 3 years older than me. Repeat when confused- I am not old!!! Use whenever felt necessary.

Thanks for that. I've decided I'll have to try IF but I'm still considering how to go about it. Right now, I'm seeing how I can get on with only tea all morning. And right now, I'm feeling very hungry which must be psychological because I usually don't have anything until about 10 or 11 o'clock. Had an upset stomach anyway for the last day or so, so a rest will probably be a good idea. BG this morning is also a bit high (9.5) so surely I can last out on just fluids meantime.

I had hoped not to be old in my 70s (my father didn't get old until he was well into his 80s) but these last 3 or so years have made me change my view on that. My heart thinks I am about 20, but my body tells me I am about 100. Never mind, if I can lose some weight using IF I will feel a whole lot younger.

Just to keep this on the food theme - I did have my roast chicken with some quick fried green beans last evening. I have never liked green beans and haven't had them for years but I thought I could try again. An hour later, I was feeling very sick - a feeling that lasted all night. I do seem to have a problem with vegetables - cooked ones anyway. Must get more salad stuffs in next time I can get to a shop. Probably not until Monday now.

Nah.
Something VERY wrong there.
If you tot up the totals of the fats, proteins and fibre, they add up to over 100 g / 100g
Someone made a major boo boo and someone else didn’t proof read it.

This is why I never trust any packaging, ever.

Actually, it should be reported/complained about.
If this packaging is so absurdly inaccurate, then what about all their other packaging.
Could be dangerous for someone trying to calc insulin dosages on something with higher carb content.

We’re all falling apart to some extent Annb.

I think a common thread on this forum is that the contributors are fighting hard against something that in previous years would have totally defined them. To control their diabetes and sometimes put it into remission.

My father was told when he was just over 40 that he had a severe heart condition and that he should get his affairs in order because he only had a few more years to live. He was 93 last week, not so in especially good health at this age but he battles through. He had one knee replaced (actually too late) about 14/15 years ago, refused to have the other one done. I think he has more pain in the artificial knee than the other, but I still find him climbing the stairs huffing and puffing his way up while the stair lift sits at the bottom of the stairs. He says that he needs to do it ‘to keep going.’

I think bloody mindedness and not giving up is a vital ingredient to growing old.

I know you’re right. The website gives the same info too. I phoned them and submitted a query so hopefully they’ll check it out ASAP. ( before I put blinkers on and scoff the lot!)

Noon now and my BG has gone up to 11.5. I know there is a dawn phenomenon but it's not dawn any longer. Is this how it's supposed to go?

Don't think there is any set way it is supposed to go @Annb more a set of outcomes that people observe more often than not. Please bear in mind I know nothing useful about this bg control jobby.

Not an expert, but as I understand it the liver will throw out glucose to give you more energy to do what you need to do. So maybe it’s interpreting your fasting as a starving situation.
Trying to attach a link. I can’t get it to copy. Look at the Diet Doctor - why is blood glucose elevated when fasting. That’s the expert!
