What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Slept till quite late 1pm but didn't sleep till 4am this morning my insomnia is out of control these days. But Found an online course for insomnia so hopefully it helps maybe the course would put me to sleep haha. My bsl was 4.7 mmol/l when tested.

Spoke to one of my sister today and found out mum was taken to hospital due to heart pain tachycardia yesterday but luckily they were able to resolve it in emergency and decided to send her home as they trying not to have elderly patients in hospital due to covid-19. Mum has an appointment next week to see heart specialist so hopefully we get some updates. But had a quick chat with mum and she sounded tired. Going to be getting my car serviced on Monday in Sydney so will drop in to visit her and spend day with her whilst car gets serviced.

Brunch

Cooked some Bacon in the oven and fried an egg served on a 90 second keto bread that I nuked cooked in the microwave. Only ate half of breakfast as got very full before I could eat any more.

Dinner a few slices of cheese and baby solenta tomatoes on salada biscuits. And Glass of gin and bitter lemon with real cranberry juice. I found cranberry juice that is 100% cranberry juice wasn't exactly cheap but I enjoy it and have about 20 mls of it with glass of water its tart as no sugar and I'm also adding it to my G&Ts it has about 8g of carbs per 100ml but I'm only having 20 mls so carbs should be low. Stuffed cabbage and tomatoes steamed in the pan as well. I like my tomatoes heated through.
Finished off with 2 100% chocolate buttons.

I've twice seen a food programme featuring a top London chocolatier and he said you should just crunch 100% chocolate and then let it melt in your mouth. It should start to taste slightly sweet despite having no sugar in it. Tried it but either it doesn't work or I should have had more of the chocolate. Not going down that road.

The filling for the cabbage was spinach, cottage cheese, some flaxseed and coconut flour savoury crumble plus some mixed nuts. Better than I expected.

I've heard the same about chocolate but instead of biting into it told just let it slowly melt in your mouth. I found it depends on the brand of chocolate though to enjoy it.

Your cabbage rolls looked good. My mum used to make them when I was growing up but she would stuffed them with rice mince meat and tomato and stream them. Use to add a squeeze of lemon juice to eat them.

@DJC3 - I hate house moving at the best of times but it must be a nightmare during this unpredictable time.

@ziggy_w - 'wonky' is an excellent word to describe my horrible BGs at the moment.

We spent a lot of today driving from garden centre to garden centre trying to find white lavender for the front garden - finally had to admit defeat and drive out to Brigg Garden Centre again. We never get away from there without buying a whole load of impulse purchases and today was no different.

Breakfast: usual scrambled eggs and kimchi (the kimchi is on the side)
Lunch: Actimel drink and a bit of cheese
Dinner: a 'pizza' with aubergine as the base brushed with sundried tomato pesto topped with lots of mozzarella and a green salad

When working on the fence yesterday I felt quite jealous of my neighbour's compressor we used for stapling.

Looks bit kind of wild

Evening all.

Almost asleep already. Woke up at even-sillier-o’clock-than-normal, got up, changed sheets on bed, did laundry, put away yesterday’s laundry and washing up, had shower and it was still only 5.30am :hilarious: Just need to break that cycle before I start getting up before I’ve gone to bed.

Food a bit erratic today. Cream and almond butter this morning, then nothing until 2pm when ate some cheese and Awfully Posh during a meeting. Ravenous by the time it’d finished and had dinner of ribeye steak with a fried egg.

Went to the butchers this morning so managed to put off eating until 2.30 pm when I had 2 more faggots and a stuffed cabbage leaf as a side. Being so late, and so much, I figured it should be sufficient for the whole day. Not so - hungry about an hour ago so I had 2 RyVita with marmite.. Then felt pretty nauseous, so had to take a couple of Rennies. Serves me right!

Neil has been on Alendronic acid tablets for about a year to support his bone density while taking steroids for his sarcoidosis (quite a trail of medications) but today our GP surgery called to say he ought to have been prescribed vitamin D to go along with it. Took their time to sort that out. He told them that, as it happens, he takes a multivitamin tablet which also contains vit D. So they left it at that but half an hour later they phoned again - he has to go in for a blood test tomorrow morning. That'll be his first time out since the middle of March. Quite an adventure for him.

I was checking through the list of side effects of the Alendronic Acid pills - Neil doesn't seem to be suffering from any of them. On the other hand, I seem to have most of them and I don't even take the tablets!

Give the new goats a couple of months and I expect my garden to have a completely different appearance! :D

When we had goats, one of them broke into the garden and she ate some daffodils and branches off of the one rhodedendron we used to have. Both are supposed to be poisonous to goats. We watched her very carefully but she suffered no ill effects. The plants, on the other had, died!

I have various plants that are supposedly poisonous for goats. A google search on the most obvious ones told me most of them can cause digestive problems so I've been watching their poo like a hawk. Still perfect 'dropjes' (licorice) so I'm guessing they kind of know what they're doing :)

@Rachox youre doing amazingly well keeping low carb despite using your mums kitchen and coping with the difficult days following the loss of your wonderful father - well done you.

Ann, between a poor winter, the shielding for some time, I would be astonished if Neil is not Vit D deficient. A goodly proportion of the population are.

In almost all cases a multi-vitamin won't have much Vit D in it. When I was diagnosed as deficient, I was prescribed a loading doe of 10,000 iu a day for a few weeks, then onto a maintenance dose, but the maintenance dose was a bit light.

I now take this https://www.amazon.co.uk/High-Stren...RY9EGXNN1NB&psc=1&refRID=RTDTSQBSBRY9EGXNN1NB :

It's really important with Vit D that it's Vit D3, but also that it is accompanied by K2.

Whilst I have recently been prescribed Alendronic Acid, I chickened out with it after a single dose, deciding I'll review once I've been to the Bone Clinic next month.

@Annb

@DCUKMod has it exactly right.
No way will a multivit have a significant amount of D3 in it. They usually go for the cheaper and less useful D2.
Then he should be taking K2 to make sure the D3 is used properly.
Hopefully he will be given a decent supplement.

personally, I buy my own because I buy better quality supplements than the NHS is likely to provide.

Thank you @shelley262 , it is easier now I’ve got some shopping in, instead of having to work with what was here. I haven’t quite got Mum low carbing, I’m doing her rice, pasta and spuds!

I bought myself a liquid vit D3 + K2 supplement - one drop in water every day. It has a hint of mint flavour even when diluted and mint and I don't get on (ever since I was a teenager and over-indulged in peppermint creams). The first few days I took it I had pretty bad headaches, so I stopped it for about a week and started taking it again today. So far, no headache. I bought the liquid because I am pretty awful at taking pills - they stick in my throat. Must have a very narrow gullet or something but I can usually manage to get them down if I lean over to my left side. It's just a bit of a pest so I try not to have to take pills. We'll have to see what supplement Neil is prescribed. He's better at taking pills than I am.

Having fished my gammon out of the boiled liquid, I had to test it, didn't I?

One of the side effects is dental problems with them, when I was taking Fosamax and then Actonel, I got free dental treatment up to $4250.00 as a one off payment under a health care plan.

I do not take them any more but I went onto a six monthly Prolia injection as a alternative, which zI now prefer as there is now no waiting first up in the morning before I can get coffee in to me.

in the meantime, you could pass your vit D drops over to Neil!

L 2 cold chicken thighs with 2 teaspoons of coleslaw and 1 falafel.
Turns out I broke a tooth somehow in that lot ☹
Then drove 2 towns away where a bank has a branch where I can pay in by machine, but machine wasn't working and branch was closed.☹
Headed then to main supermarket to pick up some needed items that Asda decided to leave off our delivery. But that supermarket didn't have what I needed either. ☹Drove home really grumpy.☹
Picked at strawberries all afternoon, then discovered our own raspberries were ripe so had a small handful of them too.
D. Was cod with creamy leeks, carrots and courgette
The I made bad day worse by having a hot cross bun. Why? Just because I already felt miserable and put upon.
And now I've spiked over 10 and have a hba1c blood test booked at doctors in the morning. Feel like I've undone 3 months hard work and am really angry and guilty at myself. Why did I do it?I am an idiot.
