@Annb - how are you now? I'm a few days behind so have a bit of catching up to do. I believe you had a fair bit thunder in the Western Isles yesterday? We've got it today. .

We had thunder and lots of lightening from Thursday afternoon through to Friday lunchtime, but, as far as I could tell, no rain at all. Neil disconnected the router to prevent damage so we had no wifi for that time. I disconnected as many things as possible to prevent any damage, but had to leave the TV - the socket is right at the back of a cupboard, which I can't get to. No problems though. My sister in law was telling me that they had the same storms in Ayrshire, where a house had a hole punched through its roof by the lightening and another family nearby had to evacuate rapidly as their house caught fire and was pretty well destroyed. Poor souls. SIL was the same as me - disconnected everything but the TV (for the same reason).

In terms of "the virus" I am still up and down. Every time I think it has gone, it gives me another blast. Lungs very sore today. Not to worry though. My main worry is the potential return of bowel cancer - missed a colonoscopy in April due to cancelled appointments and my bowel is really playing up at present. I will ask the GP about that when I talk to him/her about the blood test results towards the end of next week.

I am still trying to eat very little carbohydrate. However, I am finding that my weight is increasing and I need more insulin than before these days. In terms of weight, I guess, despite eating fewer meals, and often not finishing them, I must still be taking in too many calories for my level of activity. That means, I'll have to cut out the cream/cheese/fatty meat and try to eat more veg! (Not a good idea at present.)

Only tea so far today but I will have some of the gumbo later (the amount I made filled 4 freezer dishes with another helping left over). That means very little carb - just the tiny amount in the veg and 1/5 of the dessertspoon of waterchestnut flour in the roux. I'll try to leave it at that for the rest of the day.

Edit - PS just saw the pic of your new car - looks very smart.

Hi All, 2 days behind! Lots to catch up with. Have enjoyed reading all your trials and tribulations. Hugs all round.

Made liver, kidney and heart, lamb Offal soup (known as Awful Soup in this household). The offal needed cooking. As always delicious! Used rosemary, thyme and mustard, with Worcestershire and chilli for bite, but left the garlic out, this time. V low fat, so added dollop of butter when cooking, and cream cheese when serving. 3 portions left over in fridge.

yesterday
Too hot! Skipped lunch.
Supper was homemade chicken korma with mango chutney (the chicken needed cooking). 2 portions left over in fridge.

today
Mr B went shopping.
Evil man came home with a 90g terry’s choc orange bar, so will eat that throughout the day. *******.
Lunch will be prawn cocktail
Supper probably Awful Soup.

the heat seems to have raised my bgs across the board, but still only rising and falling by the same amounts.

Ann - you can get remote devices to switch off sockets.

We have several to give us the ability to restart our WiFi, TV box, some lights and other bits, whilst we're overseas.

Yes, those do work over wifi, but in the event of a power cut or whatever, they all automatically reset once the power is back on. There are models with just have a hand held remote, rather than anything more complex.

If you prefer to turn things off, that could be an option.

Yesterday Friday bed 7.5 FBG 7.6. Boys were here to stay over. It was DIL birthday so I gave them a child free day as the were going to play a zoom game later. Boys were glad to get a change of venue plus I am finally well again. They were not too happy with the thunderstorms though. I tried it was just the angels bowling but then I let them see the lightning maps so they could see where the storms were and they were happy with that Did you get the thunderstorms @Chook?
B. TAG and 3 GF crackers and pate
L. Another TAG and a DGF bakewell.
D. The other half of the burrata, prawns in marie rose, and a tomato and avocado salad.

The thunder rumbled all around us but, unfortunately, none came directly over. It didn't rain until after the thunder moved off so we (me, hubby and dogs) sat in the garden with a glass of wine enjoying the lightening and thunder.

I've just got home from an expedition to Morrison's, Scunthorpe to get the stuff Asda shorted me on my delivery yesterday. It was a horrible experience. The concept of social distancing seems to have completely disappeared there. No queuing to get in even though there was a staff member just standing there, the shop was heaving with people ignoring social distancing, everyone ignored the queuing arrangements for the checkouts. Total madness. Contrasted by our next stop at an Asian store for Mr C's meat and my spices, exotic veg, sauces and pulses - there the customers were queuing outside (without supervision) and only going inside when someone else came out, most had masks and everyone was politely respecting everyone else's social distancing.

Breakfast: two fried eggs on one slice buttered Burgen toast
Lunch: Cheese
Dinner: a few different kinds of salad, Greek butterbeans, Linda McCartney mozzarella burger(s)

It is indeed. I'm delighted they are letting me get it tomorrow rather than wait until Monday. It will be wonderful to just drive a car rather than worry about the engine failing on a motorway!
I heard from a friend in Lewis that the storm was quite spectacular. We had 2 batches - one in the afternoon and again about 8pm.
Your discussion about unplugging and disconnecting. My Granny could take it to new heights. Everything was disconnected and unplugged, turned off at the mains and she would ferry us into the hall (no windows) and then shut us in a cupboard. As I type this that was another burst overhead!
I hope you get the same luck as me and the bug just goes. I was even able to strip down the 3 bedrooms, give them a good clean and get all the bedding washed.
I did go through a phase with this bug where I had to force myself to eat. Today I've been nibbling on these GF crackers I get in Lidl. Nairn make them and they are only about 3g per cracker which is rather good.

So glad to hear you are so much better @maglil55. I did manage to do a bit of the kitchen floor today, but the bit that I did was enough. A bit more tomorrow.

I just finished my gumbo but had to add some yoghurt - the cayenne had rather taken over overnight. Also had 3 Atkins crackers. Couldn't finish the whole bowl. Nothing else today.

What kind of goats do you have? We used to have Saanens - very good milkers and very clever!
They're of the famous Free-Goat-For-Picking-Up breed :)
And they're actually wethers, perfect for the surprised birthday-surprise first-time goat owner! They are a bit over 2 years old and go by the names Roti (the bolder black one) and Melle (the more shy white one), and they're so much fun to have in the garden!
Melle has got wattles an a little bit of a beard, Roti hasn't. According to their papers they share their birthdays but I'm not sure that they're brothers, and not sure the papers are correct. Doesn't matter anyway, they are castrated so their line ends with them.

The bathroom isn't part of their part of the garden, I'm still working on my skills regarding using the door to their pen while preventing goats from slipping through at the same time :D

My uncle made a delicious lunch: two salads, both with a potato salad as the base but with so much toppings I could easily avoid the potatoes. One had vegetarian chicken pieces (from Lidl, very tasty!), snow peas, sugar snaps, slow fried onions, boiled eggs, leafy salad and tomatoes, the other had smoked mackerel, big shrimp fried with garlic, smoked salmon and tomatoes :hungry:
There were also two kinds of bread (of which I had a small piece) with different good cheeses and home made marmelade.

Not sure what my evening meal will be, but it won't be a lot :)

My friend got her new ducks from my cousin and then we picked up my 2 new guinea pigs.
Perfect day!

Glad to hear you had such a good day and have your new guinea pigs. Since your 2 goats are now over 2 years old, I take it they are to be permanent fixtures in your garden as pets. They make great pets as long as they are castrated. Entire males do not! In my opinion that applies to the males of most animals. (Not quite so much the human variety.) Our Saanen billy was a cute little thing as a young kid, but he became quite obnoxious (and noxious) as he grew older. In the end he weighed more than me - at that time about 13 stone, was ill tempered and dangerous. Even I couldn't hold my own. I think the ladies missed him though. His most impressive performance was the day that 2 of our girls decided to kid on the same day - I spent hours in the barn telling them "that's enough now girls" as they produced kid after kid one after another until we had 10 kids.

Bed 7.5 FBG 6.7 better today despite being a little earlier with the boys here. @Antje77 - you are very popular with No 1 grandson. Anyone who gets guinea pigs and makes a giant home for them is a very good person. @DJC3 - I got my Spam runners up prize. A Spam apron ( with pockets!), Spam fish slices, a Spam timer ( it's a pink pig), a Spam slicer (it's like a giant egg slicer), a Spam chopping board (pig shaped of course), a Spam sizzle dish and wooden holder and of course tins of Spam and what I think is spreading Spam. I also won a Baby Shark - No 2 grandson took it home. He got Daddy Shark and yes it sings the entire song! Inbetween thunderstorms I've been getting the car spick and span ready to go back as well as deleting navigation history and phone data.
B. TAG and 2 GF crackers with a boiled egg.
L. Another 3 GF crackers with pate this time.
D. Beef wraps with peppers and red onion and a chilli sauce with veggies chips. I did have 2 DGF bakewells.

Maglil - How far apart are the wires? (I cannot believe I'm enquiring about a luncheon meat slicer) I'm sort of thinking it could have potential for smooth pates, soft cheeses and such like?

Hi All
@shelley262 well done on the weight loss my BMI has been stuck on 26 for the last three years but I got to a dress size 12 after being a 16 on dx so I am happy with that for an old bird! Your Welsh trip sounds just the ticket. I am longing to go to Cornwall but am still not ready to do it.
@annabell1 your cauli fritters look amazing, will defo give them a go soon.
Today’s food as follows
Breakfast: usual slice HiLo toast, tea.
Lunch: egg mayo salad, using lettuce and radishes from the garden.
Supper will be pan fried halibut steaks and broccoli.
A couple of gin & sodas outside beforehand outside hopefully. My current bottle is Whitleys Blood Orange which is clear in colour but really nice.
Hope you like them if you do make them so thought would post the recipe, although I make mine with no onions as cannot eat them. Combine all ingredients then pan fry in olive oil.
