FBG 9.2 (7 am). 10 am 10.5. 10.15 now and am about to reheat some veg curry with a little extra stock and poach an egg in it.

Other meal will be something in a lettuce parcel - soft cheese and prosciutto maybe. Or maybe soft cheese and lettuce in a prosciutto parcel. Might also have a snack in between, not sure.

My luncheon meat slicer arrived from Amazon. I don't have anything to slice with it yet - it certainly won't be luncheon meat or Spam.

Had some coffee with cream last evening, for the first time in years. Very nice, but it was probably more calories than I should have had, but I needed something. That's why I'm expecting to have a snack at some stage today.

If I can raise the energy, I should make some soup today - lots of veg in the fridge which will have to be used over the weekend and plenty of pots of stock in the freezer. Unfortunately everything is being more painful than usual today so I'm tempted to just sit, but then I'll just stiffen up. Can't win. Must have been on my feet a bit too much over the last couple of days.

Diabetic nurse phoned yesterday asking if my new insulin has come through yet. Then she checked and phoned back to say that the pharmacy has it on order and will let me know when it comes in. I asked about the results of my blood test which, I was told, had been referred to her department. She hasn't seen anything, but will check and call me back today.

Yes, he's cautiously approaching me again :)
Eye looks good at a glance, don't know about the ear, as I don't want to scare him off again.
Glad your cat has reappeared.
So far I am winning with the ear drops, but cat has won all four rounds with the worming tablet. So far. Last round she actually bit me and scratched as well. But cant blame her at all if i will stick fingers in her mouth. However she doesn't seem to resent it and is just a little wary if I pick her up. Have decided to let her get really hungry. (No lunch today girl, sorry ) And then apply @gennepher s technique - grab a sleeping cat. If that doesnt work will try hiding the pill in a tiny bit of moist food, which is why she needs to be hungry. Wish me luck, am going to need it.

Breakfast, had CWC x2 and nut granola.
Lunch sardines. 1 tablespoon of potato salad. Made the day before so should have some resistant starch. Little bit of lettuce, one radish, they have grown huge, one is plenty, and about an inch of cucumber. Greek yoghurt with drizzle of honey and some cream. Water and tea.
Afternoon was cutting the hedge, but at one end, so many king blackberries ripe i couldn't resist, ate loads, perhaps thirty? On their own, still warm from the sun, absolutely delicious. Did think about BG, fleetingly, but can't/wont? give up all the fruity pleasures in life.
When I started trimmer up again had to stop almost immediately.
Dinner was fish, a beautiful fresh haddock fillet, mangled in the frying pan with butter. Sone of the previously frozen courgettes, fresh beans and mangetout.
Chocolate with nut butter 2 squares. Glass of water and wine.
BG before dinner 6.1 those blackberries!
Two hours later 4.3.
Silly me then went on to eat late in evening half a jar of nut butter.
Still with jars of nut butter, blocks of chocolate and cheese, am putting some weight on, shame about the BG though. Seems I can't manage both at the same time.

Edited to add pic showing why hedge cutting stopped. Can you see it?.

@Antje77 I'd have never thought about putting carrots with camembert - excellent idea!! I wonder if baked courgette would be nice.

@DJC3 when I was about 18 I went on holiday with a friend who talked a huge amount in her sleep and she, too, would sit bolt upright to do it. OMG it was scary the first time she did it because her eyes were wide open and she was talking in a creepy monotone. She would not believe me when I told her until I started telling her some of the stuff she'd been saying. Looking back now I think it was probably stress related as it was the first time either if us had been away from home/parents.

Silly question of the day: how come sweetcorn raises my BG when it seems to go through totally undigested???

Breakfast: very large boiled eggs and buttered Burgen soldiers
Lunch: not hungry
Dinner: Quorn fillets, roast parsnips, carrots, cauliflower, chard from the garden, a tablespoon of sweetcorn, gravy, h/m sugar free cranberry sauce
Dessert: raspberries from the garden

Tablets and cats don't go well together. I was so happy to find out you can deworm with drops in the neck now. It's called Dronspot and a quick google search told me it's sold under the same name in the UK. So if you want to do yourself a favour, donate the leftover tablets to a shelter and get this Dronspot :)

I meant to ask yesterday, does anyone have a tried and tested recipe for lamb shanks? Cant contain wine, and preferably instant pot or slow cooker. TIA
For slow cooker, I just put the shanks in, lid on, wait, job done.
Can season, or add herbs or garlic if you want to stretch to call it a recipe

Long, slow cooking (for me in a low oven for about 4 hours). Good stock plus some veg - celery, onion, small carrot, tomato puree, garlic, seasoning. The stock needs to be rich because I don't use wine. Shouldn't need butter, but sometimes I put some in, just to smooth it all out. Herbs to taste. Alternatively, spices to taste.

For all the cat people out there :
We gave up trying to get tablets into cats years ago. So now we dont even try whole ones, we crush them into any of:
Double cream
Whipped cream
Taramasalata
Hair ball paste
Pate (human) - not made from humans! Made for humans!
Ie anything with bit of texture. If it's too liquid they lick around it. If it's too solid they nibble around it
A friend now also swears by lick e lix chicken yoghurt to crush the pill into
https://groceries.asda.com/product/...icken-yoghurty-cat-treats-5-pack/910000445228

None of us give in to or overpamper our cats do we?;)

My dogs are easy - just face away from dog, chuck tablets over my shoulder and shout 'catch'. Job done. TBH they are (mostly) Labradors and eat pretty much anything.

Eye drops are trickier! It requires a very long walk or go swimming (to tire the dog out) then two humans, one old double duvet cover to wrap the dog in and lots of patience.

I just had a tool from the vet to pop the pill in, although our big tabby had to be restrained to get it into him. Restrained means wrapped tightly in a thick, old jacket that his claws couldn't penetrate so that all that was visible of him was his head. He never seemed to resent it afterwards. It was a constant source of amazement that the vet could just grab him by the back of his head/neck, tip his head to open his mouth and pop a pill in. I could never do that.

How lovely to have fresh veg and raspberries from the garden.
The sweetcorn question made me laugh but I don’t know the answer sadly.
Loved your pill dispensing method to the Labs brilliant. Dennis is quite greedy so will scoff a pill as easily as a dead vole, horse poo or a lovingly prepared meat feast by me. Our previous dog was fussy, she would sniff a pill out in a spoonful of peanut butter, a lump of cheese, or pate. We couldn’t fool her. She’d suck all the yummy bits off and sneakily spit the pill out into her bed when we weren’t looking

Thanks for all the lamb shank ideas. I eventually decided to put them in the IP loosely following a Maria Bravo recipe for timings and quantity of liquid. I think slow cooking would have been a better plan though @Annb and @MrsA2 The IP is great for lots of things and I wouldn’t be without it but some meats are just better slow cooked. It just seems to concentrate the flavour more.

Earlier in the day I had coffee ( lots - too much I expect)
Lunch: a small leftover portion of beef shawarma I found in the fridge followed by DGF choc brownie, warm, with clotted cream.
Dinner was the lamb shank with cauliflower. I weighed out 100g and was surprised at how much my estimated portion sizes had increased. 2 glasses red wine.
@SlimLizzy please don’t beat yourself up over 30 delicious garden fresh blackberries. It would have been terrible to let them go to waste and there are much worse things to binge on.

Have to admit, our cats weren't spoiled. They were mousers and born on a farm. We had them tamed to walk on the lead and to go to their bed when told. Have to admit, the big tabby was a handful if we tried to put him into a carrying box for travelling. There wasn't a box or cage made that could hold him, not even sedated. That's why we had to train him to walk on a lead.

I did have a snack of a couple of strawberries and then felt nauseous for the rest of the afternoon. Bad idea obviously. Had a cup of warm milk to settle it down, it helped, so I had another. Better now, but that's it for the day.

@DJC3 I did used to eat meat and my absolute favourite lamb shank recipe was put in roast pan (slow roast) squeeze over whole lemon plus shed loads of fresh oregano, lemon shells (squeezed) plus another lemon cut in half, a couple of whole garlic bulbs cut cross the way and a huge splodge of decent olive oil and a tablespoon of honey drizzled then lid on or a close fitting foil lid and slow roast four hours. Yum!!!
