What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Most people here are T2 and none of us are qualified to give that kind of advice.
I was rushed into hospital when I hit 24. You should be chasing those medics.

Have you asked on the T1 forum? Someone there might know more about your meds etc

Still waiting for diabetic nurse to me re high blood sugar readings. It’s now gone to 22.6!!!!! Only had low fat cereal and banana. Has anyone got any tips for me x

Banana would send me sky high. For me, it would not be a good thing to eat @Vonnypops
Cereal would not be a good choice either for me. Cereal raises my blood sugars as well. They would both be wrong foods for me as a type2 diabetic to eat.

I have no idea how to advise an insulin taker.

I hope the diabetic nurse gets back to you quickly.

5.1 this morning, got up bright and early as had an appointment at the QMC at 9:30 AM and it's about twenty miles away then reread the appointment letter and realised it's for the 29th next Tuesday silly me.

Here is a photo I took yesterday for any squirrel lovers out there.

Hi John,
We live in the interface between our native Red Squirrel, of Nutkin fame, and the introduced Grey Squirrel.

The Grey presents a real problem of introduced squirrel pox which is lethal to our native Reds.

We hope Goshawks and Pine Martens will rectify this problem in Scotland.

If you have received no advice about food, then you need to research on this forum what others do @Vonnypops

When I was first diagnosed as Type 2 diabetic a few years ago, I was sent to a dietician who advised me to do the NHS eat well plate which was high in carbs, and raised my blood sugar levels dramatically. "Oh don't worry", he said, "You have to eat. We can give you more meds, or even insulin."

This was when I joined this forum, and bit by bit I gleaned information from other diabetics here.

I do not want to confuse you with too much information, but basically this is what I do. I stick to low carbs now, under 20 carbs a day. Yes, 20 carbs. I think it took me a couple of years before I went down to that little carbs. It was a journey that took time as I tried different things to find what suited me. And healthy fats, with none of this low fat stuff because it has unhealthy sugars in it. (Some may disagree with me, but this is my view). Initially I tried 100 carbs a day, then I went down to 50 carbs a day. Finally I now know I need to stick to under 20 carbs a day. But this is only my diabetic journey. Every one is different. So, do not follow what I am doing, but do your own research and make your own decisions.

Also you may have other health problems that impact on your diabetes, which is why I say don't follow what I do. You need to do your own research. I don't how good your relationship is with your diabetic nurse. Can you talk to them and ask advice about food?

Portion size makes a difference as well ( I will go for a larger portion sometimes, and my blood sugar rises).

You need to take your time and read up what you can on this forum.

You need to read up on other threads what people do. No one person is right in what they do for others. It is our own personal diabetic journey.

And bear in mind (But remember I know nothing about insulin taking), that if and when you control your blood sugars better with your choices of food you eat, then I assume you will have to adjust your insulin. But you need to talk to others in this forum who have personal experience of this.

I hope the increased insulin puts you in a better place with your blood sugars. Take your time now, and talk to people on this forum to find out more information.

Hope this helps.
Best Wishes.

Hi vonny,
In T2, refined carbohydrate like bread, rice and potatoes, and also porridge will increase your blood glucose a lot!

You could try cutting down on these and increasing your above ground veg, and clean protein, meat etc.

Low fat food often contains more sugar and salt to 'improve' taste.

Full fat yoghurt and full fat milk helps keep ones b.g. down.

Use butter and not margarine and lashings of olive oil.

Give it a try and see what happens to your blood sugars. In a few months time if it works you may need less insulin?
Your nurse will be surprised by the results, I am afraid she does not seem up to date! :)

Why wait for the Goshawks and Pine Martens you could always take up hunting ;)

As you can see I do shoot the odd squirrel but with a camera not a gun.

If I see one of the red squirrels about I will attempt to get a photo but I haven't seen one for a while now though I did see some in one of the parks a while back now.

Though may have been just wishful thinking on my part.

My apologies, I thought you were T1.

I must admit they never gave me eating advice either, I was lucky finding this site within 24hr of being diagnosed and rushed to the hospital. Since then I have lived a very low carb lifestyle, and yes (before anyone mentions crumpets) I do occasionally fall off the wagon ;)

Hope you're feeling somewhat better.

Hi John,
Specie control is a controversial subject and isn't embarked on without serious consideration by wildlife bodies.
It is being done in the north with grey squirrels but the participants have very rigorous parameters.

The only animal I have killed, is a rat that was coming to my feeders and I shot it with a neighbours .22 air rifle. Oh and I don't really count the rodents that come into the house I trap!

Frankly, I didnt like the feeling of satisfaction I got from getting the rat in one.

good evening all :)

4.7 this morning

today mr gee has joined us as a member of the club none of us asked to join :sorry:
HbA1c of 51 and 52 according to the practice nurse who phoned today to give him the news, it was discovered because of the blood tests the hospital did and confirmed by the repeat test taken at our practice last week :sorry:

We had a fair idea what she was going to say, we just didn't know what the actual results were. We knew she wouldn't make a phone appt. with him to tell him his results were fine ;)

I had my suspicions because of the way his waistline had expanded quite quickly recently.

He says at least he has some idea how to proceed and his own resident LC information resource :D

@dunelm - glad your father is showing some progress. I like your minimalistic cliff faces, very effective :)

@gennepher - that's an interesting effect and a pleasing result ;)

@JohnEGreen - nice photo of the squirrel, you must be quick on the draw (with your camera ;) )

@Alien Aspie - thank you for the info. about Instagram :) I think your unfinished lightning pic is good so far with the tor in silhouette.

@Muddy Cyclist - rather you than me with the stair spindles, I can't handle an ordinary paintbrush without getting drips :hilarious:

Morning all my fasting was15.5 should I be worried

Hi @Vonnypops

as said you really should be, as you are, talking to your team, re the high-ish levels.

so we can only speak for ourselves as to what worked for us.

for me, T2D, was a surprise.

off to docs suspected heart issue, turned out to be a back issue, and in an on the way out the style, almost, it was
"oh and your bloods came back T2D.
here's a menu list, see you next month..next ! "

almost indifferent to what T2D was, i left.
IF it was bad they'd have taken it more seriously, right.

got home.. looked it up..

HORRIFIED..so did as suggested, ate the diet suggested

ate the eatwell plate, thought i was being all healthy,, wasn't
hba1c was 56 at start
6 weeks of starvation diet,..i got it up to 57.

in despair I found forum, listened and tried a few things, pretty soon FBG was dropping,
from oct 2018' to jan 19', i reduced it to pre diabetic, by june 19' i had it back to below pre diabetic and back to normal levels.

we are basically intolerant or allergic to carbs
(we don't process them very well, which causes the problem Type 2 can bring.

so less carbs means less issues, put simply.

i found this site, was a great source for a food dunce like me to choose lower carb items to buy/cook/eat
https://www.dietdoctor.com/low-carb/visual-guides

i know eat really well. rarely hungry, and now food is really just fuel, much as i enjoy the flavour of most of it, to power me through the day

Underneath each post on here, are peoples signatures for some it is the journey, weight loss / reduction in BG levels

all very inspiring, their own personal stories,

does it work for everyone..i can't say,
but i DO believe WE, ....ME, YOU every single one of us, owes it to other selves to find out as much as possible, about this disease, so we are aware of the issues, & potential remedies.

As @gennepher rightly points out, the insulin and maybe other ailments make this more personal, so do take careful note and ask your diabetic nurse or team, before embarking on major changes

i wrote under my sig this was the most powerful thing i read on 2018.

i was lucky to see the video of it, i can't find it now.
it gave me goose bumps.

here it as,
https://www.livingloud.org.uk/single-post/2018/12/14/International-Diabetes-Summit-2018

and once read
i'd also suggest a cuppa and sit and watch the wisdom of crowds,
and if you still sought guidance ..Jason Fungs

the diabetic code.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Diabetes-Code-Prevent-Reverse-Naturally/dp/1771642653

those 3 would be my list of where to start, others may have better choices.

some surgeries are more enlightened then others

but at the end of the day, i'd say...do try to find out more

as L'Oreal, say ..were worth it.

so a sad and reluctant addition to the team

but hey if you HAD to be in ANY team, this IS the one to be in..right..:)

Hi Mr G..Welcome to the hood.
downside is carbs are bad.
upside is it's all REAL foods from here on in

happy days will return once you get fully recovered.

My suggestion was tongue in cheek really not saying we should go out shooting grey squirrels, though I have read that the organisations that rescue injured wild animals now face the prospect of killing the grey squirrels they have in their care as it is now illegal to release grey squirrels into the wild over the autumn and winter months so they will have to put them down.
