FBG 11.4. PIlls and tea took it up to 14.9 and eventually, after breakfast to 15.3 - that's even with full doses of insulin. But now - 4 hours later, it's down to 11.1. Probably due to my chesty cold, which is feeling a bit easier today.

Just received my first Christmas card in the post today! An ex-student of mine who is always organised and quick off the mark. I believe she always writes her Christmas cards in April. Kind of her to remember me after all these years.

I don't think it will be a very festive Christmas this year - I just worked out my budget for December after the hefty bill for my car this month and it looks as though I'll be in the red from 4th of the month. Not that what I eat in Christmassy terms, is important. Just that I do eat is sufficient. I have bought some small gifts for Em and the 3 great grandchildren but I think the adults will have to wait for anything until the new year - if then.

Just have to hope that the oil lasts out until January. I am conserving it fiercely at the moment.

Can hardly believe that Alistair will be 53 tomorrow. My sons' birthdays always make me feel even older.
Good afternoon@Annb. Empathy for your raised fbs. With regards to Christmas gifts- our family agreed some years ago that we would no longer buy for adults and just send something for the children to open on Christmas day. Maybe you could suggest this to those adults you usually buy for. I'm sure given the situation at the moment ,that people would understand and maybe even be relieved. Hoping your cold continues to improve. Best wishes. :)

Good afternoon all. Discussed my blood test results this morning face to face with a doctor. To save time I had tabulated my fb sugars since my increased Gliclizide on 2nd Aug., then during Covid and since testing _ve. He announced that we need to give the situation a "big push".( Yeh!) He has increased my Gliclizide 80mg tablets from 3 to 4 a day and my Metformin from 2x 750 mg to 2x 1000 mg a day for 3 months then retest. If that doesn't do the trick he has a new medication up his sleeve that works in a different way to those used so far. ( Something ending in-----zone). We were both also concerned about my liver tests particularly my Serum ALT which had increased to 138 but he reckons that would improve when my blood sugars decrease. Prescription was sent to the local pharmacy electronically but they usually take several days to get prescriptions ready so Monday or Tuesday next week? I have also requested more test strips as I have none left. The pharmacy tell me they received the prescription yesterday so it may be ready to collect tomorrow. At least it will give my fingers a break from testing! That's my update. Thanks again to those who wished me well. I appreciate you taking the time and wish you all well too. :)
I do hope that your doctor can find a solution for you - preferably that the increased Gliclizide does the trick. But if not then the new one. There has to be some help out there somewhere. Hope and pray that you find it soon.

That sounds positive and should help to reduce the stress of not knowing what help may be available. So often people find that stress raises bg which then creates a vicious circle. Have a relaxing weekend.

As a youngster I never fully understood something for the weekend sir? Presumably the barber had some amusing photos he was happy to share so here's two for you this weekend. If you need more just take a cold shower.

Cat, Midnight, is terrified of fireworks. And the loud bangs they make. He has been inside on my bed all day. He normally goes into the kitchen for supper and stays there more or less until morning. But not tonight. He shot back to my bed. Then he jumped and looked around terrified as there was a loud bang. I found some Spanish pet calming music that will play non stop for him. So he is now hugging my old iPhone playing the pet calming music.

I have never had a cat yet who was afraid of firework bangs. My first hearing dog was terrified to a shivering wreck, and I had to make a tent for her to go in.

The plus today was my car passed it's MOT with flying colours. The garage said the battery was fine, I had been worried about that because I kept getting messages that battery power needed to be conserved, and it has locked me out of the car...
But garage said nothing wrong, and they reset electronics, said it won't happen again...
We shall see.
And I got two new batteries for my car keys. It was worrying me how I was going to start this keyless car starter, because both batteries had run out together.

This Spanish pet calming music is working on Midnight. These loud firework bangs are making me jump, and I am not hearing them (I am streaming 'All I really want to do " by Cher, playing on repeat, directly to my implant, because that is my mood tonight), but I am feeling the firework vibrations.

This is absolutely ridiculous, the powerful loudness of them.

No presents this year here for anyone, but I will send an Amazon gift card to each Grandchild.

To think. I used to teach management skills and was keen to point out to my students that good management leads to good employment, leads to loyal employees and good productivity. We used to discuss employment and management from times past and what was wrong with them but my students were well versed in the mantra above. Then they went into the workplace and that was about the time when things started to go really wrong - it was quite a few years ago that I retired and it all seems to have been reversed now. Perhaps my mantra should have been: exploit, exploit, exploit and get away with as much of a squeeze as you can. Make money on the backs of your employees. Take it and run before everything crashes around you.

Under capitalism, man exploits man. Under communism, it's just the opposite. - John Kenneth Galbraith

The fox was keeping a lookout for cat, Midnight.
Fox number 2 was staying hidden in the bushes.
Just his eyes were dancing between the branches...

Last night, because Midnight was on my bed (I had allowed that because he was scared of the firework), he woke me up when he wanted to go to his bathroom ( he is normally in the kitchen for the night, so he takes himself off to his bathroom through the cat flap. I waited until he had been, and he came straight in, looked at me, and took himself off to the kitchen. I shut the inner door to the rest of the bungalow (because of the wild animals) and left him there. An hour later, I couldn't sleep, so went to look. No Midnight on the chair...

Then I noticed, he was under the chair. I have a plush comfy cat bed under there, but he has never slept in it yet. Because I have a blanket on the chair, draped over the sides and front, it was like a mini tent, and he must have found it quieter under there. He looked at me as if to say, go away I am comfy here...and so I did.

835am FBG 5.2 ??? had expected a high because of snacking on bread last night. However I was noticeably bloated today, had to let my belt out.
@gennepher if you can get some Feliway spray it's marvellous for calming nervous cats. The spray contains an artificial version of the pheromones in a cats cheek glands. The ones they use to mark all their favourite things and places. Usually available in pet shops or from vets. I used it for visits to the vet and travelling. We don't have fireworks night here.
