What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Good morning everyone from a quiet and peaceful (not Dodge City) start here in the dark but apparently not so dangerous North. Mrs Miggins is up and about already as we have the Girl In The Bubble this morning. We will deposit her at school for her last afternoon session of the Spring Term. A bit more work to do on the art room and it will be good to go. Meanwhile, here is something a little different, well some outline squiggles to ponder over at least. Have a smashing day if you can. As usual, I must now make koffy.

Looks like an old lava flow?

Good afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen and those who put on their top hat, white tie and tails while dancing in the rain, panic not, a hose pipe ban will soon to be announced.

Blood sugars this morning were a 4.5 hmmm, calculations were required, the tea bag reading mug was pressed into service and a good old guess.

Now into day 17 of testing +ve for covid, I spoke to the covid ward yesterday about this and they said that as long as I didn’t develop any new symptoms I had to stick with it. I am lucky in that I’m not suffering a great deal unlike some who are having a bad time. They also asked about the density of the +ve line which is decreasing.

Not sure about what is planned for this afternoon, but it is my granddaughter’s 10th birthday today so I might get to see her from a distance and later play happy birthday for her. Better see about recording it and sending the recording to her, Mrs J might want to sing the words, Mrs J would not approve of my version, but a 10 year old would love it.
Stay safe all, stay away from ditches and the murder capital of Norfolk.

Happy birrthday to your granddaughter. Not sure where Norfolk's murder capital may be but those two poor men were murdered 6 miles apart in Cambridgeshire.

8.5 this morning (4 am). 9.4 after an hour. 9.1 after another hour.

Feeling very sleepy today, so nothing done so far, although there is lots to do. Also very sore. That's after my "Move More" exercise class on Zoom, yesterday afternoon. Kirsty always says not to push it too far or too hard, but if I didn't, I wouldn't move at all. Legs were involved in yesterdays exercises and, although I did them sitting down, it was actually a bit much for my poor old leg muscles. Tottering around a bit as a result. It'll go though and, as they say, no pain, no gain.

BG a bit higher than I would have liked - that, I'm sure is because I dropped my basal dose to 54, as suggested by the diabetes nurse. The figures are what she wanted to see, but not what I wanted to see. I put it up to 56 this morning and hope that will sort it out.
Hi @Annb

A hug for the aches & pains

But I gave a win because I think it's all showing good progress..

A little detective work & guessing on my part, I'll admit ...but.

The raised BG could be the drop in basal ...but I'm still inclined to think it's your bodies reaction to the drop & the slight change in eating habit ..

But also a reaction to today's aches etc ?

I only say that due to my own recent gym experiences.

I'll admit to all the blokey traits at the gym pre accident

Big weights & movements meaning 'manly & effective '...lol.

I do still do some of that, but I now have a greater respect for the smaller movements.

Other week we lifted a weight of our choosing (sort of how it should be in regard to size & ability)

Some lifted barely nothing.
Some lifted up to 8kg.

Nothing overly heavy for me (8kg)
And exercise was to just tilt left while holding a weight just resting in our right hand.
12 x 3 repetitions & swap sides.

(I described it as lifting a weight up off a bedside table a few inches and putting back down)

Seemed incredibly easy ....
Until next day I felt my sides/stomach/love handles aches..

so I understand a little of the pain you're in today

All of that just to say Exercise / movement isn't judged by how much others can do.

It's judged by how much YOU can do.

While we should push ourselves that little bit, each time

Each lift/raise/push is dependent on OUR limits & more where we come from health/strength wise then where others are at.

Easy to think "oh, I don't do much, so why do I ache"..which is where I was at the day after the exercise.

until I remembered a year of barely moving might do that me. :bag:

When in terms of efforts, our own capacity of seemingly doing so little
(lads easily hit 40-50kg+ on machine where I find 15kg+ a struggle )
Actually matches the seemingly bigger efforts others do

Pretty sure it's personal, but I think in capacity / ability, if a handicap was applied to make us all equal, I'd match or outperform some others
I'm pretty sure you would too.

Anyway, a long essay to say..."WELL DONE"

Exercise IS Exercise irrelevant of if you're Arnie or DeVito.

Doing it to my mind IS the important part, the effort involved is relevant to YOU.

I think the efforts you're making are marvelous.
They might seem trivial to you, but I'm impressed.

Respect.

Overall, good news me thinks

Interesting about the line.

My test was SO feint, and it's only because I felt so terrible I took it seriously and went to testing centre where it was confirmed as Covid .

So the fact yours is now starting to lighten & you come across as feeling brighter & better in yourself, I'd say you're doing great.

Long may it continue.

There a ton of naughty stuff you & you's need to do & teach the youngest...so the sooner you're back the better .

(Tho' gawd help Mrs J... :hilarious: )

And a happy birthday to your granddaughter.

Afternoon.

A relaxing day today, just chilling .

An 'almost there ' 6.0 greeted me this morning from Monsieur M'tere...(before he went off to join the pension protests)

Rehab last night
Went well, I tried to incorporate your more slowed version @Krystyna23040, but not entirely successfully due to the tempo as a group.

Think doing that when alone is the way forward, though the efforts I did make trying it felt good after.

Been niggled of late by what I describe as 'a tight bandage ' wrapped around ankle .

I know it's the scarring / remnants of the ops and/or nerve endings realigning.

But it's particularly noticeable of late.

Must make more effort to do the ankle stretches on the steps.

Otherwise nothing happening.

Not stopped raining here.
Each hour another heavy shower hits..ho hum.

if I'm in when Lauren gets home, she'll panic that the TV's broken.... :wideyed:

I rarely turn it on..
Where as she can't live without it...:hilarious:

Have as pleasant a day as possible all.

Look forward to catching up tomorrow.

Thank you so much @jraak, for your encouraging words. I don't expect to be any kind of world class athlete at the end of all this, but, if I can stand up for a while, without having to stagger to a seat, or if I can walk without falling over - even a short distance, I will be happy with my progress. My target - just set yesterday - is to be able to be given a lift to the local pharmacy and walk from its car park into the shop and back to the car. If I can do that, my next goal will be to do the same at the local Post Office/shop which has a ramp as well as steps - much harder to manage. That'll do me. No point setting impossible targets.

Edit: distance from car to Pharmacy door is approximately 3 metres. Post Office car park is on a fairly steep slope and distance about 10 metres to the steps - another 3 to the bottom of the ramp. The slope makes it much harder. It'll be a while before I can do that.

So bacon and cheesey hot cross buns are ok then? Bacon is bad enough but maple bacon is every kind of wrong. I'd happily live with smokey mayonnaise.
The whole thing is wrong as far as I'm concerned. Hot cross bun would be fine, if I could have one, but cheesey? Maple bacon? Smokey mayonnaise? Why mess up a perfectly acceptable item with all that playing around? I was always told not to play with my food anyway. And why add tomato and lettuce to a hot cross bun?

Have to agree @Annb

While recovering different criteria meant an altered diet.

Cue the Food Delivery Companies...ala gusto hello fresh.

A common one was a brioche bun with a burger .

Burger (home made delicious, have added a version to my LCHF )

But the bun just felt wrong
Far too sweet, not crunchy enough...ok but just wrong.

The mayonnaise..mmh.
I do have it spiced with a splash of sriracha sauce (nom nom nom )..but on a hot cross bun, with burger, etc ... :wideyed:

In the immortal words of Harry Enfield's character, FRANK ...
NO , Neil Armstrong, NO !!

The funny is for the image. Have a stern word with yourself about the nom, nom, nom and sriracha. :D Never tried a brioche bun so can't comment but it sounds Gallic so likely to be classy.

Yes, a lot easier than trying to do it in a group who are moving much faster. Because the slow eccentric stuff is much more effective than the fast stuff you have to be quite careful not to overdo it when you are doing the eccentric resistance exercises because eccentric exercises cause more muscle damage — in a good way! — than concentric contractions.

Needs to be proper bacon though, not fiddled about by the addition sap from trees or smoked or otherwise meddled with. I can make my own hot cross buns with my Fibre flour - note: anything smoked apart from kippers and salmon is banned from the house as is mustard that has been added to like that pap that some folk think would be the perfect Christmas gift because it includes booze - no, no, no, no and no Colemans, no.

Why spoil salmon by smoking it? Kippers? Why not cut to the chase and just salt a plate full of bones?

Me neither @Annb :hilarious:

So we make a good team.

And fully agree

No point setting goals right now we won't achieve and that only discourage us trying .

It's all a jigsaw puzzle
Without the little pieces there is no completed picture.

So small goals are the way forward.

Best of luck achieving yours .
