What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Discovered yesterday that our oil is desperately low so will have to get in touch with the supplier tomorrow (there is only one on the Island) to see if they have more stocks in now. If they have, it won't be cheap since it is clearly in short supply.

Bought (online) some special slippers for swollen feet, like mine, and they arrived 3 days ago. They were a good fit and comfortable so I immediately ordered a second pair. Yesterday, I tripped and discovered that the front edges of the both slippers were separating from the soles. Should have sent them back but I had already thrown out my old slippers (they'd only lasted a couple of months) so I stuck them back together with Evostick. They are currently held together in a clamp until they are well stuck. I guess I'll send the 2nd pair straight back when they arrive. Tom always used to say, "You pay peanuts, you get peanuts". I didn't think £27 was exactly peanuts for a pair of slippers. I could have paid about £70 for a pair from Cosyfeet, but they don't last either or fit particularly well. Trouble is, my feet are now cold so I'll have to put my outdoor shoes on and reconsider the Cosyfeet option.
£27 is not cheap for a pair of slippers @Annb
I would expect them to be at least half decent at that price.
For £70, what you are thinking of paying, I would expect all singing, all dancing slippers...

I would be happy if they could make me all singing, all dancing. Singing I can do, but dancing? I don't know why I go through slippers quite so quickly (although 3 days is a record even for me) - possibly due to the way I hobble around. Even Cosyfeet, really expensive ones don't last long, which I why I am unwilling to pay their exorbitant rates. But I do have to have slippers or I'll wear out my (even more expensive) outdoor shoes. It's only because of my swollen feet. Ordinary shoes won't do. "You gets what you pays for" - another saying of Tom's. Quite correct, of course, but sometimes even when you pay the price you don't get the value.

I have problems with shoes and slippers as well @Annb
Pre-Covid and pre-lockdown, podiatry made me insoles for my shoes because I go over on one side, especially my right foot on the right side of the shoe/slipper.
But all that stopped with Covid and lockdowns.
I had been waiting an appointment for special shoes to be made for me though, but that never materialised with Covid and lockdowns.

Actually, I disagree. You don't get what you pay for you just pay more money for a lousy product. It is more a matter of finding the right product, that it's the right shoes whatever you pay for them.

I have spent a lot of money on shoes and slippers, and I've been buying my own orthotic supports. But they are not custom-made, which is what I really need. When I lived in Liverpool many years ago I had a place where I used to go to and paid a lot of money to have custom-made orthotic supports in my shoes and they made one heck of a difference. That place eventually closed down and I didn't have that anymore.

My daughter from Australia when she came last year, said to me, mum we'll get you some better shoes, and so we did go to a place where I got some better shoes, but they didn't last, and I went down on the side of them within about five weeks and they were useless and we'd paid a lot more money for them.

Now, I've been getting the cheap plastic clogs , like crocs, for about a fiver from Lidl, whenever they're in, about a few pairs at a time. I've put good expensive orthotic insoles in them, and then, as usual within a few weeks, the right one is not safe to walk on because I go over on the side, but I just throw them away and get another pair that I already have in the house. It is a much more economical way of doing this for me.

The most expensive I paid for some special shoes was £170. They were absolutely amazing to start with, but within a few weeks the right one had gone. It had gone over on the side and was not safe to wear. So, paying your money doesn't necessarily get your quality goods. It's a matter of finding the right goods, the right shoes, and that is virtually impossible when you are pretty much housebound/cannot walk far.

16 things to do.

Guardian

Much I still can't do, but lots I used to do, but stopped at some point.

Be trying to include back what I can, now I'm reminded.

Clenching glutes was one, and the info about what it helps with was useful.

And as we're talking shoes & feet...I noted the standing barefoot exercise.

When I broke my ankle, one exercise was pointing foot /toes to imaginary hours on a clock on floor.

I found it incredibly hard to coordinate foot pointing.

Explained to me, that the connection between brain & nerves in feet was damaged and this would help repair or reroute nerve endings & make me steadier on my feet .

Worked out that it did, thankfully ..

Thank you very much for that link and info @jjraak

I would want my slippers to prepare breakfast for £70 and know all the moves in the Strictly Come Dancing back catalogue.

Good morning everyone from another bright and beautiful start to the day here in French Froggy France with rumours of hitting 18 degrees of blinding sunshine today. It’s been turned up to keep the tourists in check. Market yesterday was excellent, two streets of bustling business and loads of good fish stalls, some preparing your chosen fish as you wait. River walk with mum in her red dalek in the afternoon. Bordeaux today and dinner with our niece. Art bit, another kitchen table doodle. Been given some smart textured rice paper to bring home that mum found. Have the best day that you can. I shall continue pinching my dads excellent koffy.

Sounds very much like one of those Elbow days @ianpspurs (now twinned with arsenal ? ) tells us of occassionally.

Marvelous sounding day.

Hears to many more.

Just tried to order fuel oil but the head office no longer accepts orders and they tried to transfer me to their local depot, who were too busy to answer the phone. Waiting for a call back, but I'm not getting my hopes up.
Tried phoning the local depot after waiting a while. It seems they don't have anyone to answer the phone - there is just an anwerphpone message to get in touch via the website, which won't accept orders. I am having a bad feeling about this. Our oil is about to run out - can only last another day, if that. I'm kind of panicking at the moment.

I think I just accidentally deleted a whole post. Must be the panic causing me to make mistakes. Sorry about that.

Now - here's a thing, BG last night, when I went to bed was 7.5 (about 12.45 am) and this morning at 4.50 it was 10.9. By 7 am it was 13.5 and by 9 am it was 16.2! I have taken a correction dose of insulin to bring it down to something reasonable before I even think of eating anything.
Hi Ann,
You should try not to worry about your oil, it easy to say but the worst of winter is over but worry affects ones blood glucose.
Can you use an open fire or stove? Is Neil able to go and see the supplier face to face?
best wishes
Derek

Neil says - no panic. He deliberately never took out the immersion heater and tank when the oil system was put in but kept it as a backup if it should ever be needed. He only has to re-connect the power supply and it'll be all systems go! Won't run the radiators, but we have electric heaters that will do the job. We will have hot water and that is the main thing.

BG is down to 12.9 now.

Morning all from a bright, bear free day in L.A. Black Bear is a sought after meat by the Kilcher family - opens can of worms on hunting. Meanwhile Sunak has been set a Maths puzzle - attached. Probably lawn mowing here today so as close to a happy place for me as I'm ever likely to be here. @Krystyna23040 good news on the lowering fbg and do take sensible breaks. @dunelm thanks for sharing the art and yes @jjraak it does sound like a series of Elbow days.. Bordeaux V the D and D Norf? Massive mismatch surely? @Annb hug for ongoing bg issues and now heating oil. I'm trying to work out how to make my taste buds accept more than the 1450 per day average cals of LC food cronometer thinks I have had over the past week. Venison yesterday was lovely and seems to be very B12 rich. but even creative accounting only took me to 1659 cals. Did my 10k+ steps though. MIL has doctors appt this afternoon despite this link being very on point. I'm either totally missing all the wonderful things Team Nasty are doing or I'm being completely trolled/gaslit. Y'all have a good day - somehow, anyhow, your own how.
