What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Fbg dunno

I had made plans for today.
Researched where disabled toilets were.

There are apps and stuff that tells you this.

So, this hermit planned a trip over the border into deepest darkest England on to the Cheshire plains.
It was frosty and a bit misty when I set off...

Then I panicked at the thought of going out for the whole day, and going a distance, which I have not done since pre covid and lockdowns. It was the needing the toilet issue and finding one, despite me meticulously planning the day.

My driving was fine. I was happy driving, I enjoy driving, I just panicked over the urgently wanting a toilet issue. I pulled into a layby, sat for a bit. There was a cafe opposite which I've never been to before and I thought look this is not far from home how about just going to this one and then going back home again...

That would be a good option wouldn't it...

Absolutely not I told myself. You are going over the border into England and you are going to the destination you have keyed in on your sat nav I told myself...

I put the heated steering wheel on. And went for the open motorway. The going to work traffic had gone to work so it was a little less crowded than usual, although it was pretty packed with heavy lorries, but the traffic was moving and most of doing 70. There was a huge lorry carrying gravel. His max speed was 50 I think. So I drove behind him. Very unusually all the different turns I needed to take down different roads, he keeps still in front of me and just short of my destination he turned right to wherever he was delivering his gravel...

Just up the road was my destination! A garden centre I used to go with J many many years ago. They had an amazing cafe then. But the cafe area has been completely rebuilt it is massive, but still retains the intimacy of the original cafe with all these little rooms. Even though it has been renovated, it still felt the same place with the same lovely people serving. And it now has a Wi-Fi. I stayed in the cafe five hours!!!

I had an amazing breakfast. I used loads of their Wi-Fi. Then I treated myself to a Victoria sponge which I have been looking forward to for about a year or more... It was delicious but I think that has satisfied my longing (which I know I have mentioned on here) for a Victoria Sponge, possibly for forever now...

There were other people with laptops and stuff who stayed at their tables for even longer than I did... So it was great that that was acceptable and you didn't feel the pressure to leave once you had finished your food.

I will go back again. And they had several very large disabled toilets on their site. I bought some plants, some yellow wallflowers.

I did not get back home until 3:30 p.m. and it is getting dark by now.

I was wiped out when I got home and went straight to sleep.

So my creative...well, it's a little creative, this is a photo of the tea pot, cup&saucer and little jug of milk.

It was nice meeting different people, everyone was very friendly. I had a few conversations with strangers. And that satisfied this hermit's need for interaction with people for maybe a week or so...

Nighttime wildlife video
I had a bit of a disaster here. The trail camera only recorded sections of five to ten seconds instead of three minutes... I have no idea why the trail camera malfunctioned. But this slightly disjointed video was the best I could do with it.

But last night, I had a last ditch try on YouTube with this same video. It was still troublesome to post but I got it up. And, surprise surprise, it has got 539 views...
So my second link for the video will be for YouTube tonight, if you cannot access Instagram.

Have the best of the rest of your day.

I do hope your grandson feels a lot better very soon @ianpspurs .

Very interesting article about keto. I hadn't realised that keto was high fat and low protein - so was really pleased that on reading about the problems with keto that I actually haven't been doing it.

I have been prioritising protein and not going overboard with the fat. Have been eating the protein with the fat it comes with and restricting the very high fat stuff like cream. Luckily have been eating seeds, nuts and lots and lots of the green stuff also. Very interesting article.
Glad you found it interesting and useful. Thank you for the good wishes for my grandson.

I have been doing keto well over a decade now.
It is the the only way I can eat healthy.
I have tailored my eating to suit me and my condition.

When somebody wants money for their controversial views, that is a warning sign, that they are only interested in the cash, than giving good advice.

They don't know you, they are scams.

Always with this type of thing, only your experience, your readings, your symptoms, if it is improving, your general health.
You know what your body likes, they don't.

Keto is about zero carbs.
The rest is up to you.
Your need good protein.
You need good saturated fats
Eat fresh.
This is advice from someone who you don't know, but has been given a second chance when diagnosed.
The eat well diet, NHS recommendations, doctors etc advice. Was killing me.
And I don't want anything in return.

My best wishes.

Sounds like you had a great day.

And good to see midnight on swing duties

(Didn't look too bad to me, genn )

I'm delighted you have found a way of eating that is ideal for you. The link I posted cost nothing and the views were anything but controversial imho. I genuinely believe from everything I have read that Keto isn't zero carbs. This is a decent summary of Keto from everything I've read. We are both reasonable people and they can disagree amicably.

In the paragraph 'How it works'.

The, description of the brain needing continuous glucose.
Is so wrong, with its concept.
If that was so, we couldn't fast, or sleep or we would have to continually fill our mouths to provide this glucose.
I can fast further than four days (hospital test) my brain function improved.
My blood glucose levels never moved from normal levels and my body started to lose weight graduually..
A light bulb moment for me.
I have heard this argument for over twenty years, and even my endocrinologist debunked it.

Harvard is known to promote the same dietary recommendations as the rest of the health service recommendations. And also the food manufacturers, the money in ivy league universities are provided by big multinationals to promote this. Never mind the big pharma, and private health sector in the U.S.

For me, as we all need individual dietary requirements.
I would not sign up to some 'one size fits all ' dietary recommendations.
As this is.
There are so many on here who have had amazing results doing less than 50g of carbs per day.
As they say is what we all need.
total bs.
Zero carbs is optional but should be dismissed as risky.
It is not.
I would not tell you how to 'low carb', but I won't be persuaded by those whose self interest is to shareholders, stakeholders and the like, and be told like little sheep, while we struggle for our health. And

My mantra for me.
I have a tailored diet, for me, designed by me, for my tastes, my environment, my pocket and most importantly for my health and my BG levels.
I have had enough battles with control and it's never ending.
I would be loath not to inform you lot of these pitfalls.
I care.

And finally, this is exactly why this forum exists.
Because of these recommendations that don't work for so many.

Best wishes.

@ianpspurs you do, what you have to, yes, we are old enough and big enough to disagree..
And I can agree to disagree.
And he friendly about it.

A good day out

Good morning everyone on another splendid start to this weeks double dip bin day here in the dark and dangerous north. 5.4 this am despite a pensioner portion of chish and flips in Whitby yesterday. All the public toilets in Whitby charge 50p a ride but as I have a Radar key and the option if nipping into several known establishments, this does not affect the pound in my pocket. As @gennepher has stated, always plan in advance where facilities are located and as Billy Connolly has said, never pass up the opportunity for having a pee. Art bit, a wee red tower atop a hill. Hope your day goes swimmingly, we are off for a walk into town in an hour or so but first, koffy.

Thank you @Krystyna23040 It was.
I need to do more of those days (after a suitable hermit's break from people!!!)
I know what you mean about needing a break from people. My Norwich venue has offered me a free meal (when they do their monthly community meal). Although really kind of them I need to get out of the venue and go to my favourite pub to totally relax on my own.
