Thanks for the membrane tip I’ll have a look before cooking. What happens if you leave it on?

Well, the membrane is a non-flexible, sinuous membrane. If not removed the ribs, if cooked as a rack the membrrane will shrinks, making the rack sort of curl, but also not be as tender or easy to eat.

If I have forgotten to remove it before I freeze the rack, I will almost always (unless time absolutely prohibits it) defrost the ribs before cooking, whereas if I remove it as soon as I get home, then season and freeze the rack, I'll happily put them in the cauldron frozen and let the magic happen from there.

Your butcher may remove it as a standard practise. Ours doesn't, but usually asks if I'd like it done. I went through a phase of asking him to leave it so that I could practise to get more confident doing it.

The membrane left on isn't a show stopper. I just find it much better to remove it.

Enjoy your ribs. I have a small rack in the freezer, and my OH is out at a dinner tomorrow evening, so I may just indulge myself.

Hello!

Eaten already so posting now

Lunch - Last of rollitos, chicken bites, chicken liver pate, cucumber, tomatoes and peppers. Strawberries and cream.
Dinner - Mother-in-laws recipe of chicken, chestnut mushrooms and leek in a double cream sauce with carrots and green beans. A home made ginger biscuit from my new recipe book and one square of 85% Lindt.

Evening all. Hope none were blown away. windy but warm here. Very good day so far and should end well. Being an Ember day I decided to fast as that was the tradition and it had a real point IMHO. Icing on the non cake was a twenty first century pilgrimage to Walsingham. Mrs P wanted to go to coast so we then went on to Sheringham via a trendy village called Cley - love its smoke house.
Menu - Tea and coffee

I think the best of all is Salthouse where we have walked dogs early some Sundays. There is a guy who sells coffee from his van - proper barista stuff = brilliant

Oooh. Glad you founds some things you liked.

On Saturday, I was picking up some things my OH had ordered on Click & Collect, and he had deliberately ordered 2 sizes of three things, so tomorrow on my way to an appointment, I'll take back the spares. Having been swapping summer and more autumnal clothes over today, I shouldn't really be looking, but...

Evening everyone.
Very blustery day here too. @maglil55 how was it with you? Lots of weather warnings for Scotland.
@shelley262 I’m glad you got some good holiday gear. Clothes shopping is so much more fun when you’re looking for smaller sizes isn’t it?

B: Halloumi, mushrooms, poached egg and asparagus.

L: One of the DD naan breads reheated and topped with avocado and scrambled egg. 30g almonds and 12 Callebaut choc buttons afterwards.

D: Should have been IP ribs but Mr C bought scallops and John Dory from the fishmarket so had that instead - sauteed in butter with roast broccoli. 1 glass dry white wine.

@Tori71 are the sugar free Werthers carb free? I used to like them, especially on long car journeys.

Evening All,

Kidnapped (or is that Breakfastnapped) by Mr B. He arrived home at 11am at the end of his shift (4am-11am) and convinced me to take an early lunch (brunch?) at the dog cafe. So I had bacon and egg. He had Full English, and the mutts had their beloved scrambled eggs.

Then this evening, cheesy mince, and goatsmilk yog with a tablespoon of almond butter in it.

Gearing up to go away next week. Doing the supermarket delivery this evening. He he! Curry or red mince, all week. Minimal effort (magic cauldron) with max flavour. And a proper trial on the curry spices, with the option to fish the meat out of the sauce, if necessary.

I worry that my current eating is boring for Mr B. But when asked, he requests the old faithfulls...

Hmm, unfortunately not! They have about 2g of carbs per sweet. But I so wanted a couple with my cup of tea. I've found it easier to keep to things in the long run with a bit of a lapse :arghh: What percentage are the Callebaut buttons as I've been eyeing these up on Amazon for a while?:greedy:

The Callebaut buttons are just 5.5g carbs per 100g. They are small so 15 buttons weighs about 10g
The only problem is the fact they come in a 2.5 Kg bag! I have tried hiding them in an awkward cupboard but they have magically repositioned themselves right at the front - so easy to just have a few when you’re passing.

Edit to correct weight

Hello all,

@DJC3 -- This was my thinking too in trying a compressed eating window and OMAD -- so many seemed to be quite successful with it. Just goes to show that we are all different. About half a year ago, I bought some sugarless Werther's too. If I remember correctly, they contain isomalt, a sugar alcohol that can raise blood sugars for some. Might be worth trying, especially since they are quite small. So, having one or two probably wouldn't be too much of a problem.

@Goonergal -- I so empathize. Hope work gets better for you.

Returned last night from Antwerp. It was a good trip. Tbh, I think I enjoyed the road trip more (open convertible, sunny, 30 degrees) than the time in Antwerp. Most of the places I had planned visiting were closed. Seems like they are open on Sundays for tourists and close Tuesday instead. Still all in all a cool place to see.

Tuesday ...

Breakfast: Two double decaffeinated espressos with cream and erythritol. A DD keto roll with mayonnaise, cheese and beef salami.

Snack: A baby bell cheese, a baby cucumber, a few pecans caramelized with erythritol, about 20g of 88% chocolate.

Dinner: Mussels in garlic, one and half glasses of red wine, stole two tiny fries from my hubby.

Late night snack: A wiener sausage, another baby bell cheese.

Wednesday...

Breakfast: Two double decaffeinated espressos with cream and erythritol. A wiener sausage, a babybell cheese, Greek yoghurt with low-carb muesli (ordered online, contains mainly sesame, coconut and linseed with erythritol).

Snack: A few caramelized almonds. About 10g of 88% chocolate.

Dinner: Lamb's lettuce with homemade dressing (mustard, lime juice, erythritol, orange zest and olive oil), three scrambled eggs with gruyere cheese. One glass of wine. About 5g of 88% chocolate.

Will have my yearly blood tests tomorrow morning. Wish me luck.

Seriously bad up here. Started with sunshine and blue sky but boy did that change. Had to pick up SIL and hubby from the airport and it was so wild I had to go through town as the bypass was too exposed. Interesting drive avoiding trees, branches and flying debris. While stuck in traffic I checked on their flight and it was on approach 30 mins early (obviously caught one heck of a tail wind). Fought my way to the airport and even with the disabled badge I couldn't get parked. Was going to go in the multi storey but that's a minimum charge of £20 even if you're only in 5 mins. Was desperately trying SIL mobile leaving messages, texting.....never thought to recheck the flight! Pilot had a go at landing, didn't fancy it , aborted and diverted to Manchester. So they were in Manchester waiting to refuel for the pilot to have another go. About 20 on the plane didn t fancy it and got off having been told it was up to them to get home. I informed SIL winds were slowly dropping so by the time pilot got back should be better. Meantime I paid £10 for The privilege of doing circuits around the airport! Did the bypass going back, couldn't see for the spray but at least I didn't have to hang onto the car. 3 hrs later they eventually got back to Edinburgh and felt kissing the ground would be an idea when they got off!

Good luck with the blood tests. How long does it usually take to get your results back?
I’m glad your road trip to Antwerp was enjoyable, shame so many places were shut though. I reckon a couple of sugar free Werthers would have made the journey even better!
