What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Evening all.

Had to look up Marie Condo - folding method looks a bit of a faff.

Introduced my dad, his wife and my sister to Nando’s today. Very successfully, they all enjoyed it. My lunch consisted of a plain leg, 3 plain wings (eating technique still going strong @Brunneria ) and a side of grilled halloumi.

Mid-afternoon snack was chocolate olive oil cake (another new experience for my sister) with extra thick double cream.

Dinner was left over lamb from yesterday with buttered cabbage and some more cake and cream.

Evening all from a blustery Fen hideaway. No B except lots of tea and mid morning cocoa. Lunch was chicken and avocado salad with mayo. Evening meal was salmon fillet on mushroom and Hollandaise base followed by 2 rows Green and Blacks orange and almond dark chocolate. All very pleasant if slightly insubstantial but as I have barely moved today about right.
Re Marie Kondo - slightly tongue in cheek I abhor tidiness as a rule BUT Julie feels we need to downsize and relocate nearer grandchildren in Suffolk. Tidying and clearing was/is for photographer. Her idea of downsize is to have me buy a 2 year old, 5 bed detached which we obviously need.

@Goonergal good to hear you have a couple more Nando’s converts and that they enjoyed your choc olive oil cake - did you carry it up there on the train?
@ianpspurs oh you have my sympathy - keeping the house pristine for viewings is so stressful I find. But your house in the fens - didn’t your grandfather build it? I thought you were staying put til one of your boys took it on?

My dad built it on some of my grandad's land - his old house borders this one -with my help BUT none of the boys will be able to buy it or take on the land. Technically, we will end up in/go from the East of the Fens to the West. That 5 bed house is remarkably cheap but having people around me would not please me.

No, I bought the ingredients in Tesco while braving the weather for an early morning walk today. Had to use Xylitol instead of erythritol but it was the lightest, nicest one I’ve made to date.

Thawing out a piece of corned silverside for cold meat.

It's then going in the slow cooker for about seven hours to cook.

Like the look of that and the idea of turning something similar into pastrami - no idea where to get similar in my area.

Your local butcher should have corned (salt) beef on hand, either silverside or brisket.

Jewish (kosher) butcher shops should have as it is popular with them as well.

Breakfast: my usual low carb coconut ‘porridge’ with strawberries and cream washed down with a black coffee.
Lunch: fry up bacon, egg, mushrooms and two cherry tomatoes.
Mid afternoon: coconut cappuccino in Nero’s with raspberry phd bar.
Dinner: Chinese takeaway, crispy duck and veggies, smidge of sauce, a mouthful of crispy seaweed and one prawn cracker followed by SF jelly, cream and LC chocolate granola.
Not looking forward to my FBS as ate really late!

Mr C uses ordinary supermarket brisket unrolled, spicy dry rub applied and refrigerated overnight before cooking. He makes it most weeks and finely slices it to take to work for his pack-up.

I make this a lot and can thoroughly recommend it. I also use ghee

Is this considered high fat low carb? I dunno how to make it high fat other than the Ghee and cheese

I always add the cheese on top in my plate separate because I like it cold...

You can also mix in chicken or meat or even fish.

It’s amazing

It’ll be a wrench to leave I’m sure, but being near the family/grandchildren will hopefully be compensation.

Yes, its a pretty perfect dish. According to my workings out it is 4g carb per serving and 24g fat
I like it just as the recipe says - with the paneer marinated and cooked til crispy then mixed in.
It’s always my favourite go to dish if we have a curry take out too.

We dry salt brisket similar to that but we keep it in the fridge for a week, rubbing more salt in every day after tipping any liquid out.

Does xylitol have the same ‘cold’ effect as erythritol? I couldn’t use eryth initially because we had a dog, but I struggle still with the coldness and odd throat burn of erythritol.

Just back from a very nice meal at Indian restaurant with friends.
I had Tandoori King Prawns, cauliflower Bhajee, 1 popadom, 2 Diet Cokes and surprisingly nice coffee served with cream which I didnt mind a little of.
Breakfast was usual slice HiLo toast butter and tea.
Lunch was M&S deli peppered squid and a tablespoon celeriac remoulade from Waitrose and one small tomato.
Was all set up to cook brunch for OH, me and youngest son tomo late morning before he returns to Bath but he has just changed his plans and requires feeding early evening instead. Not sure now how the meals tomo will work out but will sort in the morning.
