What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Posted by Dr Dominic Pimenta, the guy who resigned from his cardiology post after Cummings jumped into his car and drove to Barnard Castle so ought to be pukka.

Due diligence...correct.
Do take your point though :)

Thought it was a good gif.
"Is it flu "..seemed to be the usual question.
Nice clear visual response of 'perhaps not '
(True.?..mmhh facts to be discerned by reader, as pointed out earlier )

In other news.
Khan declares major incident in London.

Worth a panic..naw.
Just one more indicator of it is all getting
"Better" or "Worse"

My hunch ..getting worse, sadly.

Stay safe all.

Thank you so much@jjraak for your kind and understanding response to my post. Good news today is that a 3rd vaccine has now been approved so at least something positive to cling to. On a personal level I am told that mum has settled well into her new room. Take care and stay safe.
Sad to hear a nurse in Wales has covid 3weeks after being given the Pfizer first jab.

thank you

I'm just one of many on here, who have been there, so your not alone.

And GREAT to hear that update.
Big relief I bet.

Yep, the good news about vaccines all coming at an opportune moment.:)
.

Take care
Hug for you & Mum

There are definitely some people who would rather take meds than change anything about their diet.

This is complicated by the fact that for years T2s have been advised to base their diet on starchy carbs - which absolutely requires metformin to be prescribed. In my case I needed injected insulin because there was no way metformin could cope with the 70g of starchy carbs I was advised to eat with every meal plus adding starchy carb snacks between meals.

I also wonder whether those GPs that staunchly stand by the 'shut up, eat your carbs and take your tablets' school of thought are those slightly longer in the tooth. While lovely GP is at most in his late 40s if not early 50s like me... he had heard of Libre, and recognises that what costs the NHS dosh is people getting limbs amputated or going blind and nipping that in the bud early is key. Also same view from younger GPs I have occasionally seen in the interim.

Could it be we are not going to be due for much of a change in direction until the older workforce move along?

Just tried on my brand spanking new hinged knee supports from BioSkin... makes you realise just how much give the old ones had after a while... it was like putting brand new knees on!

True, but some people just lose weight without improving their hba1c!
D.
I was one of those people. When I was diagnosed with an Hb1aC of 125 I barely was 9st on the scales - which made me severely underweight. Basically I was just skin and bones but it had not helped my Hba1c at all.

I think you might well be right. When I cut down on carbs and came off insulin I was so happy and proud that I was in remission. I remember being so upset when a consultant in the eye clinic got so cross with me that he started shouting that I was deluding myself if I thought I was in remission because diabetes was a progressive degenerative disease and I would only get worse and worse. Luckily I have never seen him since.

Just wanted to say I have enjoyed the posts about how people negotiate the balance between medication and diet. Very useful and compared to other parts of this forum I think it is non judgemental - quite open minded. Personally, no Dr or DN has ever mentioned the word progressive or told me to eat carbs/ a balanced diet. They have shown interest in my way of managing my T2. I was never offered DESMOND so one way or another I have been left alone/ very fortunate/blessed.

Yeah.. did Desmond's after being on here for a week or two.

Knew more then most..so sad to see many happy to pop meds rather then alter diet

Spoke at end to tutors, agreed we should be more open minded, but they pointed out they are restricted to what they can promote or offer.

Both very nice, but was it of use to me ?
Only as. "I am not alone" type of way.

Worked my socks off to get back to normal numbers (40 HBA1c June 2019 DX aug 2018)
Disappointed not to be asked HOW.
( Metformin & Lower carbs / Healthier fats ;) )

Agree there is a more enthusiastic
view among many on here...can be a touch overpowering.

Still got the eatwell advice at docs
Wasn't & still not comfortable being honest, so just nod & ignore the advice.

Should it be like this..naw.
Are they all old fogeys..

Diabetes nurse could be a model.
German lady, early/mid 30s at a guess.
More milla jovovich re eatwell then mother Teresa

Guess she puts the new way back to 2050..:arghh:

The story of DESMOND and DN isn't funny but the idea of a DN being like that is funny if the comparison may be seen as a tad racist for some tastes. Glad to hear you are getting another meter and hanging in there in the face of trying circumstances. Very praiseworthy and telling of the man you are. Top stuff.

Certainly no offence meant.

( And realistically..I'm old, not blind ...;) )

Yeah, not the best way forward for the T2D community.

Is what it is, but thanks for the kudos

Evening all.
The crazy Cultists seem to have gone home in USA for the time being. My relations are going about their normal Covid restricted activities. Counting down the days now.
I'm trying to count down my BG, but seem stuck with FBG at 8.3, while 90 mins post lunch it is only 7.2 Shouldn't that be the other way around? (Homer says "D'oh!")

good evening all :)

4.9 today

Oh well, at least my eye is settling down a bit, it's still a bit sticky in the morning but not so sore :joyful: lots of eye drops are helping, not as if you can nip into the health centre ;) I got something in it the other day whilst we were out walking but I thought my tears had cleared it out at the time.

Heating oil delivery arrived today so that's OK ;)

Flippin' cold here tonight, not as bad as the -7'C on Wednesday (so far anyway), but definitely cold, we've got the woodburner lit :D

Hope your day is treating you well :)

@lindisfel - lovely snowy photos, what a beautiful landscape. We woke to a little dusting this morning but there was about an inch at Mum's :)

@dogslife - good news that your mum is more settled :)

@gennepher - so good that you have found that friendly post office and shop :joyful: our own little village shop/office is very friendly also, makes a big difference. Nice that you will be able to get a good range of stamps for your post-crossing friends.

I remember that years ago every little sorting office had it's own metal 'franking' stamp and people used to collect first day covers stamped on the day of issue from different locations. I provided cover for someone whilst they went on holiday and one of the most nerve wracking things I ever had to do was endorsing the first day covers ready for despatch :hilarious:

Lovely frosty dawn picture, it's not easy to capture that, it's very reminiscent of the one we had today :)

@dunelm - I confess I really like the hemp paper, adds a pleasing touch of texture, a lovely painting today with that contemplative figure taking the air, so detailed :joyful:

@Muddy Cyclist - that's a great painting, a lovely frosty landscape, I paricularly like the way you have shot colour through the middle ground under the trees, very effective :joyful:

Art bit -

no 1 - Since I missed a day, this is a quick sketch I did before Christmas with some new coloured pens I got from Home Bargains, saw them and thought I'd try them, they are very fine point and pleasingly, they are waterproof :joyful: pack of ten colours for about £1.50 this sketch is about life sized.

no 2 - snowy over the Firth ;) just bigger than A5 painted with my White Nights.
