What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Evening all

Today:

B: Two poached eggs topped with a knob of butter and avocado, seasoned with black pepper and a wedge of Gorwydd Caerphilly.
Water to swallow tablet.
Double espresso.

L: Packed lunch made with leftover walnut and mushroom nut roast.
Celery sticks and baby plum tomatoes with chicory boats for scooping and a dollop of home-made mayonnaise for dipping.
Prawns and brown shrimps.
Almonds, hazelnuts and brazils.
Water to drink.

Mid-afternoon: black filter coffee

D: Smoked salmon and cream cheese salad made with lettuce, celery, baby plum tomatoes, salad onions, Kalamata olives and Romano peppers, dressed with olive oil, lemon verbena and a touch of lemon juice, topped with pecan halves.
Water to wash down tablets.

…What are you gonna do

Oh mouse, fair play about not killing them.

Blimey they took a liking to that cheese plane!

I would be apoplectic if they had gone near my kitchen drawers. I was putting stuff inside bags and wiping every surface, bleaching the place from orbit every morning when I wasn’t sure where they were going in the house or where they were coming from. Maybe a bit over paranoid but the thought of them running about leaving germs everywhere made me shudder. To the point I couldn’t be bothered with the morning ritual any more so I ended up installing a camera in the kitchen and never seen any in there since making sure I kept the door shut. difficult if out in the sticks and things are more open plan, older properties.

Dinner was indeed an odd combo of bacon, and weirdly some cheap coleslaw from the shop as it was almost given away (I should really make my own)
Luckily, I'm pretty relaxed, there was a cupboard they went in too, I'd hear them & go open the door & say hi. They got used to me & didn't run. There was nothing in there for them to damage or eat. The drawer was under a gas hob, how they found their way in. Everything was dishwashered or thrown & the gaps were filled with tin foil, it worked. We lived in the country, so it was one of those things, also found a dormouse had moved in upstairs in the attic, after finding neatly bitten through stashes of hazelnut shells. Bats down the chimney & in the basement there were all sorts, including toads that crawled under the garage door, it was a proper nature reserve. ;)

Evening @LivingLightly, I never got close enough to have a good look, they have good eyes & they jump, more than enough for me. :chicken:

Sorry off at a tangent, I could add tomorrow's dinner, but I don't know what it will be yet.

Evening @ravensmitten.

Yes, spiders have had a bad press. These little chaps (chapesses too) are nowhere near as fearsome as is sometimes made out.
Of course, you're right, they aren't as fearsome as they seem to be to me. But that's the whole point about phobias. They are not based on common sense but on something deeper in the subconcious which can't be explained. As I said - maybe I was a fly in a past life.

So far, I've eaten some deviled eggs my friend provided, and part of the dry sausage my friend gave all 3 of us as a thank you :)
Tonight will be the last of my andijviestamppot, and tomorrow will be my birthday party, which will likely be a bit messy, diabetes wise, which is fine, if I plan for it.
How did my life suddenly get so chaotic and busy? Not complaining at all, I had a wonderful week, but lack of sleep and too much booze is starting to catch up with me. Birthday party tonight, so one more day of too much booze and to little sleep to go. :hilarious:

The andijviestamppot never happened, and nothing else did either, foodwise. After the financial adviser had left, neighbour and I had a beer, and a whisky, and another one. At least we went to bed pretty early. And together.

This morning neighbour, other neighbour and I went to get food and drinks for the party.
The adviser also brought kefir grains so after the shopping I sieved it (she had brought them in some of her own kefir) and added milk. I drank the kefir, very nice! And also the first food since that dried sausage I had yesterday in the early afternoon, which means I had an accidental 23 hour fast. I don't think it counts when you drink beer and whisky during your fast though. :hilarious:

I'm sure I'll make up for yesterday's lack of food today. There will be cubed cheese and liverwurst, crips, coated nuts, olives, baguette and garlic butter. There will also be bitterballen. And I'll make a pot of tomato soup and a pot of onion soup, both low carb.
So my plan is to fill up on cheese, wurst, olives and soup, and I'll try not to have too many bitterballen and bread. But it's my birthday party, so a bit of sloppy diabetes managemant is all in the plan. :joyful:

All lies!
I completely forgot I treated a nighttime hypo with a very tasty piece of 'appelflap' I found in my neighbour's kitchen. Its sugared puff pastry with an apple filling.

Two pots of soup are ready, mini meatballs for the tomato soup as well, cooked separately with a stock cube so the soup itself is vegetarian. I made a couple of plates with liverwurst, dried sausage, and cheese cubes, put mustard in two small bowls with a lid, grated cheese for the onion soup, and washed all my bowls and spoons, hopefully I have enough. :)

I ate one of those mini meatballs, quite a lot of soup by taste testing, a cheese cube and a piece from both sausages, and I drank a cup of the now meaty vegetable stock I cooked the meatballs in.
Guests should arrive any moment and I'm ready for bed to be honest. :hilarious: Sure I'll perk up a bit with a campfire and a beer though. :)

I guess I'd better brew a pot of coffee and tea, and find some chairs for guests to sit on in the garden.

I missed your birthday, sorry, many belated happy returns. Hope the party was good fun, the food sounds perfect.

B-chaffle, bacon and fried egg. This chaffle recipe had egg, mayo and almond flour it was ok but I don’t like it as much as the egg&cheese recipe. @shelley262 I know you used to make chaffles, what was your favourite recipe? Anyone else make them?
L- h/m yoghurt with blueberries and seeds. More than a handful of the toasted coconut chips which are so easy to eat.
D- DietDoctor recipe https://eatapp.page.link/7LEKbvoNzW4dASxF7 which is Tex Mex spiced mince and cabbage topped with cheese. Looks boring but it’s tasty and very filling. IMG_1710007668.209360.jpg

I haven't done chaffles in years! I used to add to eggs and cheese mix a teaspoon of pysillium husk to give it a different texture ( not the one that turns baking purple - the blond version) and then switched to add small amount of oat fibre but my chaffle machine stopped working and I started buying low carb bread and rolls. I used to use the PH and oat fibre in hm LC bread but stopped making when found reasonable LC bread to buy.

Isn't wildlife resourceful and what a wonderful refuge you provided!

Yes, unlike their web-spinning relatives (which have poor vision and rely on touch and taste to find their way around), zebra spiders have excellent eyesight. Often seen on the outer walls of garden sheds and fences, if you wag your finger at one, it will move its little head from side to side in order to follow your finger tip.

If you live in the southern half of Britain, courtship behaviour will be in full swing from April to May in a garden near you. (In Australia, activity peaks from September to November.). Once seen, never forgotten!

Evening @Rachox

My apologies if you found the spider talk unsettling. Please rest assured there are no British species that are harmful to people, despite the exaggerated claims that appear in the tabloid press every once in a while.

Exactly, it’s often not the thing itself

I guess @jessj you get used to dealing with that more out there, I’d never even seen one up close and not in the wild until lockdown so was new for me, we probably lived beside them for longer than I knew, I was certainly on a lot higher alert when corona hit us.

Anyway just seen @Rachox post, and I’ll say no more on either subjects, sorry <3

For food tonight was a mixed salad with pastrami and olives and some crunchy cheddar with a small spoon of houmous

Earlier it was bacon and eggs

I did eat one of those mini party sized cheese and onion sausage roll things when out this morning which did nothing to my bs, and can’t have had too many carbs to it. Was out and about and they were being eaten by others after swimming.
