How old were you at diagnosis?

Hi, this kind of came from another thread. How old were all my fellow t2's at diagnosis? Thought it might be interesting to work out an average age. I was 39. Dx

HB1AC- will it make any difference?

Hi folks, My annual review is due. In my haste to avoid taking time off work I have booked to have my bloods done tomorrow morning when I am off work. It being Christmas I have relaxed my diet very much so this week ( I gave myself three days off. I have indulged in my first roast spuds all...

    What are you reading?

Just being nosey really... So what book are people reading right now (or the last book you read) and would you recommend it? I have just finished "mini shopaholic" by Sophie Kinsella. Not exactly intellectual stuff but very funny. Just about to start Tony Blairs book, not sure how I will get...

    Control solution....

Being me, I have put the instructions for my meter somewhere safe.... So safe I havn't a clue. I have had a couple of readings that don't make sense over the past few days, so was wondering if I should be using control solution, and if so what on earth I do with it. The only other thing I...

    Diabetes in the past

Hi all.. Another question out of sheer nosiness! I have noticed around the forum there a lot of people who have been diabetic for a very long time. Having an enquiring mind (or being nosey, you decide) I wondered how you used to control your diabetes? How did you used to track your progress...

How likely is my son to become diabetic

I have tried looking for this answer on Google, but seem to be drawing a blank. This site is where i seem to get the best, most reliable diabetes related information so i was hoping you could help me again. I am type t2, diagnosed at 39, as far as I know my Gran was the only other diabetic in...

    Hot, hot, hot

Just a quick question. Would the current hot sticky weather explain why my BM is higher than it usually is? I havn't eaten any different and feel well so can't think of anything else. Thanks D

    Foot care and blisters

I have managed to gain a huge blister on my foot (my weakness for not so sensible shoes) and it is turning a little on the grotty side. So far I have washed it and applied liberal amounts of tea tree oil. I was wondering if anyone has any advice? It is very sore and starting to throb.

Why do the nhs give the advice that they do?

I have been pondering again! This time on what the rationale Is behind the current 'eat plenty on starchy carbs' advice currently given out ? From my own limited testing/knowledge I know this is exactly what pushes my numbers up. But the nhs must have a reason to advise us to, and I was...

    HB1AC and diagnosing diabetes

I was wondering why HB1AC isn't used as the diagnostic test for diabetes. As it reads our longer term levels surely it must be a more valid than the 'snapshot' which is what a fasting test is in essence. I was hoping someone better informed than me could explain. Thanks in advance to anyone who...

Car insurance (maybe one for cugilia)

I just rang my insurance company to share the happy news of my diabetes. I didn't realise I should untill the recent thread. Anyhow, after a lenghty hold listening to awful music and being told how important to them I am (or at least my monthly direct debit is) I was rewarded with a breif chat...

    Alert dog

Yesterday I was out shopping when I saw a lady collecting for a cancer dog charity. I was chatting to her (and making a fuss of the very friendly adorable dog she had with her) when she told me the dog She had with her was actually a trainee diabetes alert dog. Apparently this dog ( which by...

    False hypo?

Hi all, I was diagnosed in Nov 09. I am type 2 diet controlled. My fasting levels are usually in the 7's and after meals I have been ranging from 8 to 10. I have been following a lower carb diet recently. Today I felt shaky, sick, dizzy and just generally rubbish. I tested and was 4.8. It has...

    Skin tags and diabetes

I have developed a few skin tags near my eyes. Not a medical issue I know. But I hate them and have been looking into having them whipped off. I read somewhere that type 2 increases the liklihood of skin tags and was wondering if this was anyone elses experiance? Also, has anyone else had tags...

    Stomach upset

Higher than my usual BG numbers

Hi, I am a fairly newly diagnosed T2. My BG is normally in the 8's or 9's but over the past few days i have started having levels of 12 plus. I am diet only and do feel off colour and very tired, but not too awful. I realise that levels in the 12's are not that high for some folks, but they...

    Annual review

Hi, I have been invited to my "annual review" with the DN and my GP. I am fairly newly diagnosed (Nov 2009) and was wondering what to expect. I have already had some bloods taken (i assume one is for HB1AC) and have had to drop off a urine sample (what are they going to test that for)...
