Weekly weigh in - Fridays

Absolutely, join the gang. Underweight is also a problem, especially with diabetes to make things difficult. How are you working to gain weight?
Hi thank you! I didn't want to post if it was more for people wanting to lose weight. To cut a long story short, I've had diabetes 6 years and just been put on insulin after a pretty torrid last 6 months.

I've lost from 58 kg down to 47kg which I am not at all happy with. Ideally would like to get back up to around 55kg, but my whole life I've struggled to actually increase my weight, best I can usually manage is to keep it stable and not lose anymore. I had a lot of anxiety around eating when my blood sugars were so high, was missing out food often because I was scared of making them even higher.

My sugars are improved now I'm on basal insulin but I'm eating around 50g of carb a day to try to reduce mealtime spikes. The trouble is, most of the foods that help you put in weight tend to be high in carb!

I guess I'm just a bit stuck, I've stopped losing any more but haven't put any back on yet so any ideas to help would be so much appreciated!

Double cream, 10% fat natural yoghurt, cheese, nuts, adding olive oil wherever you can... just suggestions
Thank you! I eat cheese and nuts, but could certainly think about adding cream etc maybe to drinks and putting in cheese and nut snacks! It's just such a slow process for me, it would be fab to be able to go stuff myself with high carb high calorie to help myself but I know I can't!

I have a family member with a similar problem, type2 and struggles to maintain their weight. Increasing fats and protein and eating little and often seem to help. I think now you're in insulin, that should help too.

Hi
When I was poorly in hospital they gave high protein energy drinks to build me up due to rapid weight loss. They are available online, but expensive!
You can make your own.
I would make them with;

Full fat yoghurt
Full fat milk
Double cream
scoop of good quality low carb protein powder (available online)
A few frozen berries for flavour.

3 of these a day with meals and snacks should do the trick.

Oooh that's a good idea thank you, haven't thought of protein powder. Thank you!

Sorry, @filly that is disappointing, hopefully it will come off next week along with another pound or two.
Ah, well at least you hadn't gained, @IanBish but I bet that fried rice was good.
You are doing well @EllieM - another step in the right direction.
Losing your holiday weight is excellent @MissMuffett and hopefully that half a pound will be gone next week as well.
Well done @JimPartie - yay, one stone off is fabulous!

I lost another 2.5lbs this week and I must say it has been a tough week, but I stayed on track, phew!

Agree with all the above.
Nice loss LeafyArts.
I got my days mixed up!
I am down 2.4 lbs this week.

I am down 3.8lbs since last Friday so feeling happy with that.
I started my diabetes weight loss on 1st September with 236lb and am down to 224.2lb this morning... so close to that 1stone but it just doesn't want to shift!
First real target for me is to get to about 100kg (220.4lbs) which is my pre-covid weight, again not far to go but the last bit always seems to take forever!

Hopefully cycling 300 miles during October for diabetes UK should help to shift it!

Congratulations to everyone in the efforts put in so far!

There is that at least. The fried rice (the second one especially) wasn't as nice as I remember.

Well done on your loss, and sorry it was a tough week. But when the going gets tough...

That is a great loss in a week and yes, cycling 300 miles in October will indeed shift some weight, I am sure. Keep us posted on your progress (both on the bike and on the scale).
