What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Have got too far behind to remember what i ate when.
@Annb what a disaster with the soup spill. After such a busy day, when you needed to relax. Was the cleanup totally effective?
@shelley262 toothache is awful, hope you get /got it sorted out quickly.
@ianpspurs Very belated Happy Anniversary. That you managed a celebration meal is almost cause for celebration in itself.
Can I have the recipe for patagonian warble flies please? Might be able to adapt it to use our over abundant fruit flies. You have an amazing sense of humour in difficult circumstances.
@Annb have you tried celery salt? Am not a celery lover , but find myself adding it to almost everything now we are a low salt household. It definitely adds a savory flavour.

Update.
Now that we are back in Normandy have been getting more excercise - in the form of chores about the place. Am correspondingly hungrier. Working on clearing up the orchard, high winds while we were away have brought down all but a few apples from most of the trees, as well as one entire tree. The vegetable patch still needs digging, but now is a soggy mess from all the rain. Heavy rain every day we have been back. Ten day forecast, more rain. Wood for the fire has to be fetched in. MrSlim is still on extremely light duties, he is allowed to cook, and light the fire, bait the mousetraps and make me tea. Hopefully washing his hands in between. Otherwise he sits by the fire. :bookworm:
Next doors cat is enthusiastic about our return, hoping for handouts and a warm place to sit. Have not seen the feral cat for three days.

Cannot remember food on days since last post, well not accurately anyway so missing them out.
31-10-19
breakfast tea, nut granola, more tea.
coffee with cream
lunch, scratch lunch, yesterdays sourdough bread with ham and cheese, two radish, from the garden, not very good :yuck: tea.
dinner. Mince from the freezer, turned some of it into a sort of chilli, with sweetcorn instead of beans, served with rice/ cauliflower rice, carrots and green beans.
snacking on cheese all day long for some reason.
bedtime tea.

Next doors cat is ever hopeful, but am resisting as she is getting fat. Handouts from at least three households, plus her own food will do that. She also hunts all day and eats her kills. The feral cat appeared tonight, must have been really hungry as she ran instantly right up to me and nearly grabbed her food from my hand. Dropped it just in time. Am sure she would not have taken it gently! Normally she hides under the car and i have to throw food to her. One tiny chunk of food to next doors cat to the right. One much larger piece to the feral under the car on the left.

01-11-19
breakfast. coffee with cream, ate the last of the nut granola.
coffee with cream.
lunch, MrSlim made leek and mixed vegetable soup, i made leek and mushroom...added soured cream to mine. We both had slices of toasted sourdough with cantal cheese. I had one slice, he had four. Was a long loaf so small slices. tea.
dinner, sort of cottage pie. I used the mince left from yesterday and topped with mashed cauliflower, celariac and potato. cabbage and green beans to go with it. Afterwards one of MrSlims poached pears and cream. Two glasses of wine
bedtime tea
Woke several times in the night for toilet. Probably because of the pear and wine.

02-11-19
breakfast coffee with cream
more coffee with cream
lunch. homemade creamed leek and mushroom soup. one slice pain kapnor bread with parmesan cheese. Tea
dinner. MrSlim cooked, liver with bacom and mushrooms, potatoes and cabbage; had one small potato. BUT am going to have to stop buying pears. MrSlim poaches them in spiced wine and sugar, simply irresistable, served with a lot of cream, but he made enough for three days.... (My plan was a low carb pear crumble.) Now he is feeling a bit better he is doing most of the cooking, while i am outside working in the garden/orchard. Several glasses of wine. Blaming MrSlim for opening a bottle of fizz. He is hitting all my weak spots tonight.
The feral cat has not been seen all day.
bedtime tea.
Again woke in the night and this time wide awake, unable to go back to sleep. Using the time to catch up :smug: with posting, still some reading to do.

My trusty guardian angel - Neil spent quite a long time cleaning the carpet from the car boot. He used strong detergent and gave the carpet a hot shower. There is still a slightly discernable stain but it's hardly noticeable. He was suffering afterwards with his back as a result but he's put it behind him and forgiven me. Still hasn't seen the funny side of it though. Mind you - he didn't see the way the dogs and cats piled into the discarded soup beside the driveway.

I haven't tried celery salt. I've seen it but never bothered with it. Might see if I can get some next time we go shopping.

BG last night was 6.2 but after my lower than usual dose of Lantus I had a hypo about 2.30 in the morning. Had a digestive biscuit and some milk followed by a couple of imperial mints. I know I shouldn't have, but I felt I could afford it. Woke up again at 7.30 with a horrid taste in my mouth (aftertaste of sweets - shouldn't have bothered). BG at that time 4.6. I thought it would be higher after the carbs, but no. I don't really understand why my BG suddenly has gone low - I've been having as little food as yesterday for quite a while. Maybe it takes time to work through the system. Probably need to be a bit careful about the insulin now.

Almost time for my main meal - only tea up until this point. It will be pork sausages and celeriac mash. The sausages are from the Co-op's "Irresistable" range - I've rather gone off our local butcher's sausages. The mash is made with butter, grated cheddar and topped with cream. I'm looking forward to it. That will be the only meal today.

Hug for the hypo @Annb and hope you enjoy your lovely sounding meal. I am on two meals today 11am brunch of 3 sausages and two fried eggs. Supper will be roast chicken, celeriac mash and tenderstem brocolli. Before that I am going to an All Souls service in a tiny church in the fields which is candlelit. I go every year to remember my mum and MIL (who was a real friend) and FIL.

@Annb hug for the hypo and @PenguinMum hug for the memories but the setting for the service sounds lovely. Tea for breakfast after exercise bike for 45 mins. Inexplicably had CWC , must be the smell of French vanilla. Walked dog for an hour - yet another shower and clothes change. L = turkey thigh (amazing value from Morr..... tender, moist) roast cherry toms, celery and mushrooms, cauliflower cheese (frozen cauli, little almond milk and grated mozzarella). Ev= CCB with some cream. May have almond milk cocoa later.

Not quite OMAD today. Mail meal was roast pork with roast broccoli and buttered cabbage.
A couple of hours earlier I had 2 celery sticks and cream cheese, and a few hours later some local cheese ( about 30g) and a glass of red. Also 2 glasses Champagne somewhere along the line.
I hope Rodizio Rico lived up to past experience @Goonergal and @Rachox my mouth is watering at the thought.
@PenguinMum the memorial service sounds lovely. What a nice way to remember you loved ones every year.

@ianpspurs and @DJC3 there is no electricity and no heat in this tiny church but the setting for All Souls at 4.30pm - you go in in light and come out in dark - and it is the one place where I can shed a few tears and feel just right.

Evening all. OMAD today. Boat trip in the caverns around the Dudley tunnel followed by a canal walk back to the hotel in Brum, which was a bit longer than expected but scenic and with some proper sunshine.

On arrival visit to Five Guys for a bunless bacon cheeseburger with mayonnaise and grilled onions followed by another visit to Hotel Chocolat for a hot chocolate with cocoa whip. Some Serious Pig snacking cheese and pork crunch back at the hotel.

Remembering your mum and In-laws in that little church sounds like a lovely idea. Every March 13 I think of my mum (died on that day in 1985, the day before my dad's 70th birthday - she died apologising for spoiling his birthday). She was a remarkable woman, which all mothers should be to their children and which I'm sure yours was to you.

I had my sausages and mashed celeriac but couldn't finish it - half would have been enough. The rest is going away in the freezer. I slipped up and had a few slivers of cheese about 6 pm and, having checked my BG and found it already low decided I'd better have a RyVita and bone marrow, otherwise I'm likely to end up in trouble again tonight.

Breakfast staying at a Hotel so no real breakfast, just half a packet of coconut bites to have my meds with.
Brunch: all day breakfast of sausages, bacon, fried eggs and tomato.
Mid afternoon: phd bar and black coffee.
Tea at ILs: cold meat, cheese and salad buffet followed by one Jaffa cake.

Lunch yesterday: Goat cheese on home made savoury biscuits.
Dinner: Roast pickled pork, veggies, with some of the best pan juice gravy ever.
Dwe01us.gif

Breakfast: Usual c&m omelette, bacon, tomatoes.

Drinks: Black coffee no sugars, water.

We caught two feral cats in the traps out at the block which were dispatched to cat heaven, two less cats to kill local wildlife.

Snack: pork rind 25g, coffee with tbsp whole milk
Lunch: 190g lettuce, 130g tomato, 2 dill pickle, 34g cheese

Breakfast, left overs from last night. Liver, bacon and mushrooms with gravy and four quarters of a small potato. Warmed it up in a small frying pan with some of the cabbage. Not my normal breakfast but what do you do with one portion of food when there are two of you? At least no waste this way and a satisfying, low carb meal. Had intended to have coffee, but MrSlim was up so made tea.
Coffee with cream.
Lunch homemade creamed leek and mushroom soup. One slice Pain kapnor bread ( 15g carbs) tea
Tea in the afternoon.
Was hungry late afternoon so had a piece of parmesan and 6 walnuts
Dinner. Grilled pork chop. Steamed cabbage and carrots, French beans and gravy.
Pudding poached pear with cream. Glass of wine. Coffee
Bedtime. Tea.

Yesterday's I woke up im not feeling will been up all night I think not sure if it was something I ate at my sister's place I feel I have a stomach bug so had a smoothie for breakfast I thought I'll be ok so made my chicken curry in the afternoon and cauliflower rice to have for dinner I ate a small amount but it really didn't sit will so I've put the remaining in the freezer for another few meals another day.
I'm still not feeling well today I hope I'm not having a UC flare. I got up at 10am but couldn't stomach anything to eat and still feeling very tired so lay down on the lounge and fell asleep. I awoke st 12:30pm a bit hungry and checked my BSL it was 5 which is ok, but was concerned what to eat so had a slice of sourdough toast with my homemade labneh (dripped yoghurt) and black coffee. Then around 4pm my BSL was 4 so had some left over smoothie that I made yesterday. I Still Have stomach pain and to many visits to the BR so decided I will have something easy for dinner so pulled out some chicken stock and heated it on the stove top with half a cinnamon stick and a had slice of sourdough toast with it. I've spent all day on my lounge drinking fluids no energy. I'm not happy I'm hoping it's not a flare of my UC but my BSL seem ok at moment.

Hi Everyone,

Have fallen rather behind and skipped to catch up - apologies if I have missed any trials and tribulations.

Last few days have been 90% carni and 10% chocolate, which is significantly more chocolate than I should have had, although I have got home to the straight and narrow now!

Oh, and I can confirm that Goonergal's vampire lemon cupcakes are DELICIOUS!!!

I had lunch at about 12.30 - very hungry so I got something labelled spicy chicken out of the freezer. When I defrosted it, it turned out to be spicy chicken with chick peas. I have absolutely no memory of making such a dish! Had it anyway, but found that the chicken was one smallish piece of meat and the rest was veg with a lot of chick peas. Spicy too. Actually quite pleasant but I left more than half of the chick peas and sauce. It was quite filling and anyway, I didn't want to overdo the carbs. Trouble is, I'm hungry again but at least my BG fell from 9.5 to 6.3 after it.

It will be bone broth tonight. I will have to reduce my insulin dose for that or it might cause too much of a drop going into the night.

I do hope your UC isn't flaring up. From my sister-in-law's experience, it seems to be quite random and to just decide for itself when to flare up. You have been doing so well and your BG seems to be under control. Do take care and look after yourself - resting as much as you need to. That is more important than getting on with things. Such a shame after your birthday celebration.
