What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Evening all.

Not quite as short a sleep as @ianpspurs but when a 9.15am breakfast is a full 6 hours after rising, rising was waaaay too early. Said breakfast was 4 rashers streaky bacon and 2 fried eggs. Much needed coming after my first visit to the gym in months.

Dinner was air fried beef topside. Delicious crispy fat and perfectly cooked thanks to my new thermometer - with thanks to @DCUKMod (sorry no pics, was ravenous).

@DJC3 jumper buying was taken to a whole new level this afternoon. Went to Marks in search of a jumper I’d seen previously but hadn’t been able to find my size. Size still not available, so decided to order online, along with another one. Somehow managed to place the order twice, and didn’t discover until the 30 minute cancellation window was up!

No offence intended at all. I really enjoy eating meat but for me couldnt do it every day because I enjoy other food. Just find the diversity of what people eat interesting.

Hug not for food but the double order - (plus going through #managergate)

@DCUKMod - as the spotter of all kinds of bargains please let me know if you spot any amazing bargains on s Bissell Carpet Shampoo Machine. The Rug Doctor is way too heavy for me now so I've decided to buy my own. Makes a change to kitchen gadgets!

If you use Amazon, put it on watch on camelcamelcamel at a price you want to pay?

I'll keep my eyes peeled.

The M&S returns process for delivered stuff is really efficient, and the refunds very prompt too. We drop off the parcel at the village Co-Op and "hey presto", in a day or two, the card is re-credited.

Hi Chook. Glad to see you back. It can all get a bit much sometimes, can't it? But keeping talking about issues can help - or so I find. Best of luck with the new diet developments.

The fried duck that I had yesterday did manage to keep my BG up a bit - rather too far, in fact, but it's better than a hypo. BG last night was 11.8. All I had at the pot luck was one cup of tea and one glass of water - honest.

Today, I've been sorting through papers again and ignoring everything else. Dumped quite a lot in the recycling (to be collected tomorrow) and even more into the incinerator bag. Still felt I had to keep even more than that pile though. I have an old filing trolley which I was hoping to use to store what I had to keep - not realising that it was already full to bursting point, so I had to go through all the stuff in that first. I have sorted all the "keep" stuff into folders but haven't managed to get it all back in yet, never mind put anything extra in there. I need another trolley or filing cabinet, or extension to the house, or new, bigger house.:banghead:

So - I forgot about food and drink until about 2.30 when I had some of the spicy chicken, left over from the pot luck with the remainder of the duck-fat-fried peppers. The duck fat made all the difference. I feel very UNhungry for some reason - currently drinking very cold black coffee to try to soothe my throat. I seem to have developed a cold and sore throat. Maybe that's why my BG is higher than I would like it to be.

You can see from the pic (below) that there were some peas and some sweetcorn in the spicy chicken, but not much, so I don't think the carb load would have been too high.

Was reflecting that the reported meals here are very varied which I really find interesting. Theres a lot in the media about eating meat and climate control. I mostly eat non meat 3 days a week by choice of things I enjoy. But the other days I enjoy maybe a proper lamb chump chop or chicken or a steak. We are not good on braises as my husband has an aversion to “stews” but will accept mince dishes like cottage pie/chilli/Bolognese. I mostly try to buy the best quality I can, red meat from the excellent local butcher though I do buy chicken in the supermarket. I dont think it will be long before we have more bad quality meat flooding the market. Sorry dont mean to derail thread at all but it is about what we eat! Anyone else?

Meat is very important to me and it makes me sad to think that meat eaters would have to be sacrificed for the sake of the environment. I think the environment has a lot more issues than the production of meat (although I do appreciate that large ranches carved out of the rain forest are probably not a good idea for the sake of the world). And those of us with issues with the kind of diet environmentalists would like us to eat don't seem to be represented in the argument. It has partly been due to my acquiescence to the "health food" lobby (high fibre carbs, no meat or dairy and plenty of fruit/root veggies) that I'm in my current condition.

Here's to the carnivores (those who want to be).

Breakfast: my usual low carb coconut ‘porridge’ with strawberries and cream washed down with a black coffee.
Lunch: roast chicken, one small roast potato, mixed veg and gravy made from meat juices thickened with flax, followed by SF jelly, cream and LC chocolate granola.
Mid afternoon: raspberry phd bar and black coffee.
Tea at ILs: cold meat, cheese and salad buffet followed by one Jaffa cake! :hungry:

@PenguinMum - Like you I was delighted to see Finn win. Such a nice, unassuming boy. Hope your BG'S have stabilised. Thankfully I have had no extended repercussions from the Friday Chinese sharing box. @shelley262 - did the HC creme liqueur cause any BG rises? Or did (I think it was @DJC3) confirmation of the carb/sugar content appear from HC? @SlimLizzy - well done with the cleaning blitz but do take care. I hope your shoulder is recovering. The Iceland red shrimp is indeed amazing. My son was astonished I'd gone into Iceland but I always knew they did really good fish/shellfish but these red shrimp are amazing.
Our polling cards arrived yesterday finally. There's been an absence of campaign literature so far though not that I'm complaining.
Saturday - Bed 6.1 FBG 7
B. TAG with ADOC and a slice of toasted LC bread with Philadelphia and mortadella.
L. Hubby was off to the football (they got that new manager bounce and won) and I had to stay in for a while waiting for a parcel delivery. I did have another slice of toasted LC bread with Philadelphia and mortadella. Then outvshopping.
D. Opted for oomi noodle carbonara followed by a DGF salted caramel warmed with raspberries and cream. Decided the salted caramel is a bit sweet so will be a moderation one until it is finished.

Very wet & miserable today.
Hi only had a small amount of choc cream liqueur but no bg rises at all so all good.

@DJC3 and @maglil55 thanks to both for your good wishes. Shoulder has returned to it's current normal, slightly higher than usual, ouchieness.
Shifting building blocks and logs will do that.
@Goonergal totally with you on the truncated night sleep. This time just insomnia. Possibly due to the late dinner and the extra half glass of wine. Awake from 1.30 to about 5am. got another two hours sleep then. I too have experienced the accidental doubling of an online order. Mine was only packets of seeds. Not expensive so didn't return them.
@Chook Welcome back. Your meals sound very similar to mine. Hope the new regime works for you.
@PenguinMum Hope the cold clears up quickly.

@Chook good to see you welcome back look forward to seeing you around again.
Difficult day for me as looks like my gum absecess is back I’d hoped antibiotics had worked but itsgetting red and painful again so back to dentists tomorrow. He was talking about extraction a few weeks ago so feel it’s coming closer! Will see what tomorrow brings - should have been going with OH for day out in Ledbury to meet up with his brother and partner but dentists instead for me!
Just a few softer nibbles for me with my tooth problems
Scrambled eggs
Some Cheese
Also had small glass of choc creme with ice tonight.

@Annb I agree. I really enjoy meat and agree I wouldnt be happy to have it banned. But I also love eating veg, fish and eggs, dont know if that is bad for the environment but probs its only a matter of time!

Well, if meat is banned, then presumably chickens will be, so eggs as well. There are already problems with fishing and with farmed fish in terms of the environment. So, yes - only a matter of time. Hopefully we will have a few more years of (increasingly expensive) meat, fish and dairy products. Then, of course, we will find that insulin production is dangerous to the environment. So we will probably be forced to eat food that is dangerous for our (diabetics') health with no insulin to extend our lives a bit! (Worst case scenario, of course, and I can't believe it could happen, but still ...) Just wish this side of the argument could be put to legislators.
