What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Happy holidays @DJC3 !
Where are you going?

I had a very summery salad meal today.
That poor plate must have been shocked by all the greens, having started its life with Goonergals mostly carnivore meals.

I'm really glad she gave it to me, I love remembering people through using their everyday things.

We’re in the Isle of Wight. It’s been wonderful so far.
I love seeing your food on Goonergal’s plate, ( even though the amount of veg may have shocked it!) it’s nice for us all on here, I think, to see it appear now and again.

Having a lovely holiday, self catering during the day and joining friends in the evening.
Breakfast was 2 boiled eggs mashed with butter.
Lunch - a t/a salad from a little deli on the harbour was feta and beetroot salad, eaten under the beady eyes of several crows.
Dinner started with margaritas made by our hosts, with nuts and smoked salmon canapés. Then out to dinner at a seafront restaurant. The restaurant owner has bought an old army jeep and collects customers from their homes to bring them in, and takes them home again afterwards. All at no extra cost. What a cracking idea. Olives, then Sardines to start.then lemon sole with samphire and caper butter sauce and a large salad. White wine to drink.
Back at their place another glass of wine. IMG_2896.jpg

B: ff greek with seeds, Strawberry and blueberries. 3 mini sausages.
A good 2 hour walk with friends dogs
L: chicken drumstick, mini sausages, roasted pepper. Nuts and teaspoon yoghurt and 1xsq 85% mixed in.
A 20 minute swim
D: pork scratchings as an appetiser, along with too much red wine.. smoked fish, peas and beans, too much of a splendid cheese board and more wine

Morning all. At Pensioner's lunch yesterday, we started with melon plus 2 raspberries, then I had 1 scoop potatoes (we always get 2 scoops but I give 1 of mine to the man sitting next to me) with cabbage and carrots and a piece of baked chicken. For dessert I took strawberries and extra thick cream. For my tea, I fried all the salad that was left over in butter and had a couple of crackers with it. I was fairly good @Pipp! Have a cooler day folks :joyful:

Sunday 25 June (even although I thought Saturday was 25! Now edited) bed 7.4 FBG 6.8. Last swimming lesson before the holidays today. It's a fun session as they've completed all their certification.

B. TAG and 2 slices of SRSLY toast with Ploughman's Pate. I've got loads of this Pate just now. Benecol dairy free.

L. Before swimming, the last bit of crustless quiche

D. Usual campari and soda. Some prawns & lettuce that needed to be consumed. Rib eye, peas mushrooms, San marzano tomatoes, 2 GF onion rings, and parsnip chips. Moretti Zero. CC Little chocolate pot and raspberries.

Hubby relapsed late evening, in a big way. Sickness came on very suddenly and took a while to settle. He was fine on Monday (if a bit wobbly).

Monday 26 June - bed 7.9 FBG 7.1 Hubby has recovered again, and both boys are going back to school today. 3 days until the holidays!

B. TAG and 2 slices of SRSLY toast with Ploughman's Pate. Benecol dairy free.

L. A Dairylea cheese triangle while getting eldest's lunch ready.

D. Black garlic chicken thighs, with fried aubergine & mushrooms, lettuce, tomato, cucumber, and mayo. Moretti Zero. CC Little chocolate pot and raspberries.

@shelley262 & @Annb - it was so nice to get a peaceful family meal (and one where I wasn't cooking). 20230625_184013.jpg20230626_185808.jpg

Morning all. I was really good with salad and chicken drumsticks and hard-boiled egg until they brought out the cakes. I wish someone would teach me how to say NO with my mouth when my mind says YES please!! So I had 2 of Mr Kiplings almond slices. And I can't test my bs because I've left my monitor at my friend's house. It's pensioners lunch today so I'm taking strawberries and cream for dessert instead of the 2 crackers with cheese. Hve a happy day folks :joyful:
I tend to tell myself that it really will not taste as good as it looks. Regrettably, it doesn't always work!

Breakfast: spinach with 2 small eggs "poached" in the bed of spinach, then a scattering of some grated cheese that needed to be used.

2nd meal: will be chicken hotpot (no potatoes of course).

Have an appointment with the dietician this afternoon. She wants to know what I am eating to make sure I am getting all the nutrients I need. Will have to give her a list of my meals. She'll complain that my carb amounts are too low. But it won't make any difference, I'll carry on. This is the dietician who told me that she really doesn't know anything about diabetes so can't advise. She did refer me to the one who has been attached to the diabetes clinic for years, but that came to nothing. Maybe that one retired, who knows?

How can there be a dietician who really knows nothing about diabetes?

Evening all

Today:

B: Two poached eggs topped with a knob of butter, slices of avocado and crevettes seasoned with black pepper.
Water to swallow tablets.
Espresso.

L: Cheese-crusted omelette stuffed with mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, spinach, oregano and cream cheese plus grated Cheddar cheese for the crust. Salad using lettuce, watercress, celery, salad onions and black olives, dressed with an olive oil and balsamic vinaigrette, garlic and mint, topped with walnut halves.
Skipped pud.
Water to drink.

D: Seafood salad made with king prawns, mussels, lettuce, fennel fronds, tomatoes, celery and salad onions dressed with olive oil and a squeeze of lemon juice, parsley and garlic, topped with toasted sunflower and pumpkin seeds.
Water to swallow tablets.

Breakfast: my usual low carb coconut ‘porridge’ with strawberries washed down with a black coffee.
Late morning: black coffee and a PE protein bar.
Skipped lunch.
Mid afternoon: black coffee and a carb killa bar.
Dinner: creamy garlic prawns with sliced sautéed courgettes.

Knew we were going out for pub lunch today so had a very small breakfast of 2 teaspoons ff greek with blueberries and a cwc.

L: As on last day of holiday decided to not limit myself as lc options were boring (burger or salad - again!) so had dirty fries with pulled pork and cheese. Added a salad and left a good half the chips. 2 white wines with soda. Paid 10.3 on bg 90 minutes after and 7.3 3 hours after (fell asleep in between).

A discussion with hubby after - he called it a treat, but it's not a treat to me as I know it isn't good for me and wasn't tasty enough to elevate it to treat status. So what was it? A planned deviation? A conscious aberration?

What about a very short break from diabetes? Maybe that was the treat, and not the actual food.

Made tomato soup today, didn't taste nice at all.
Any good suggestions for very easy to make foods that taste good with the lurgy?

Just in case the type of lurgy makes a difference in food preferences, here are the symptoms:
Bit of a fever, snot, don't fancy any food really, lots of coughing, feeling like a wrung out dish cloth, and breathing has been pretty hard work for days. The last has gotten much better after I've got my GP to prescribe me a salbutamol inhaler over the phone yesterday though. :)

Another lovely holiday day.
B- h/b eggs mashed with butter.
A trip to Osborne House where Queen Victoria died. Wonderful gardens. Avoided the coffee shop.
L- fish pate from local deli ( handmade on premises so I was able to ask about the ingredients - mixed fish, lemon juice olive oil and a bit of chilli - perfect!) in lettuce boats. Olives, few nuts and a DGF cake.
D- down on the harbour, the others had fresh pizza from the wood fired pizza van. Looked delicious, he even had a pot of fresh basil on the counter for customers to tear off a few leaves onto their pizza. I had some tapas bits: mortadella and an edamame, feta& tomato salad. Few glasses of red wine. Back at their house more wine, nuts and music on the patio. A super evening.
Forgot to take any photos of food today.

Chicken soup? Beef broth? Chilled cucumber soup or chilled tomato soup? Honeydew melon?

Morning all. Had my ACV drink butI think I will prefer to eat the pickles to get my daily vinegar. The Glucose Goddess says that 5 pieces of pickled cauli, cucumber with fennel seeds, or coriander and orange radish give you your vinegar for the day. That sounds more like it for me. I haven't got this woe set in my mind yet. I'm not used to eating veg or salad before a meal. So today I'm having raw cauli dipped in Keto Ranch dressing (hm) first, then turkey burgers with cheese on top, then strawberries and cream and hope I've got it right. Time will tell! Have a happy day folks. :joyful:

He was last seen on the forum in late februari. His last post was in late januari.
He asked me to post a goodbye message on this thread on feb 8, when he was moving to a palliative care home. I posted the message here: https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/what-have-you-eaten-today-low-carb-forum.75781/post-2582297

We had some good conversations throughout his illness through PM too.

Let's all drink one on Riva, I'm pretty sure he'd like that!
I was also thinking of him today....... and Lucy x
