Hi @Goonergal,
How are you?
As it happens I handed in the last of the graded exams yesterday. So, I am off for a month now. I've been missing everyone on the forum. Looking forward to catching up.
This is what I had today:
Breakfast: A Thai curry with eggplant, tomatoes, onions, thai basil and lamb, two scrambled eggs, two double decaffeinated espressos with cream.
Snack: About 10g of 85% chocolate, a small piece of homemade carrot-zucchini cake.
Dinner: A DD keto roll with lettuce, mayonnaise and shrimp. Another small piece of carrot-zucchini cake (the cake turned out to be quite large, so will probably last at least a week -- if not longer). A glass of dry red wine.
Of course they are! Silly me!It’s in final version of recipes booklet sent by email this am
Yes your right @Pipp. I have forgiven myself and it was just the one slip up. I actually would have enjoyed it if i wasn't feeling guilty eating it.Oh, @Moggely, first rule in a slip up is to forgive yourself.
So you had the items of non-low carb, bread and a cappuccino. First transgression, and you say you didn't even enjoy it. That is a pity. Maybe you have used that food as a coping mechanism for anxiety about the blood test? It is unlikely to have made too much of an impact, so perhaps relax, work out if my suggestion is right, then plan for next time you are anxious about something. Have a reward that doesn't involve food at the ready so you don't need the bread and cappuccino.
Hi @PenguinMum , not fed up just reflecting on a situation that needs to be addressed. Also thanks to @DJC3 @Goonergal and @jayney27.@ianpspurs you sound very fed up. I just think Diabetes levels go up sometimes for no particular reason and its hard to take. But things change and hopefully you will be back in clover before you know it.
Good luck for your new venture, you seem to have identified a plausible reason for your guilty feelings about eating. I hope that having now identified what might be a mental barrier for you it can be moved so that you can enjoy food again. I think we all get a little bit obsessive about the carbs and the BG numbers every now and then. I understand the importance of managing both to retain my current status whilst living with diabetes but I also think it’s important to live life and enjoy life to the best of our ability.Hi @PenguinMum , not fed up just reflecting on a situation that needs to be addressed. Also thanks to @DJC3 @Goonergal and @jayney27.
Took my selves to bed early and had a debate with all of us - IanP cabinet. We decided eat means eat and there will be red lines but I will need a longer transition period. It took 3 years to get to where I am now so I will take next phase slowly as well. Phase 1 will be eating more for enjoyment but at a low carb level. I think exploring keto was a bad idea for me. Too low carb and almost every recipe with the prefix keto was like kriptonite to me. I also think the multi day fasting was a bad idea as I learned I could function for at least 3 days without food so now eating sometimes seems like a sign of weakness.
There may be resignations but this is the plan we have all signed up to - collective Ianp cabinet is reinstated.

Thanks @Goonergal and @jayney27 Methinks I also need some more accurate tools. Tee2 meter does not match as well for Hba1c as previous ones - but I have thrown those away and didn't record what they were. Also looking at carb values from @shelley262's booklet against what I use they are lower for veggies that would suit me fine. 200 gms each of spinach, cauliflower and broccoli would suit me fine for a meal and based on the numbers in the booklet be about 12.6 gms carb. I am perfectly happy with that.Sounds like a good plan. Enjoying what you eat is key to sustaining this. Agree with @jayney27 its quite easy to flip over into obsession. I’m fortunate that Keto suits me perfectly and I genuinely enjoy this way of eating. For me the challenge is not slipping back into over eating and allowing myself to focus on weight maintenance rather than expecting constant loss. Really hope your new plan works out.

Welcome back @ziggy_w you've been missed. Zucchini and carrot cake? Do tell?Hi @Goonergal,

Thanks @Rachox I do make something similar. One big issue chez nous is that Mrs P needs a fodmap kind of diet and cauliflower is apparently not good on that. However, that recipe would give me a meal. I am also very wary of anything that has diet doctor as a source but that one seems none too alternative for me.@ianpspurs if you enjoy cauliflower and broccoli you might like this recipe? 11g carbs per serving

Hi Ian pleased you are starting to find a way forward. Carb content taken from supermarket nutrition websites I looked at several to make sure mainly Waitrose and Tesco so instead of price match it was carb match. Out of interest nut carb counts seem to be widest variation. I’m absolutely sure you Are on right path eating lots of veggies but sticking to low carb varieties. The fodmap makes it more complex I love cauli would hate to have to exclude the food map stuff too as would be very restrictive on top of the carb stuff too! Thanks @Goonergal and @jayney27 Methinks I also need some more accurate tools. Edit: I would also like a similar veg heavy salad at lunchtime for peace of mind re veg intake.
Thanks @shelley262. I also use Waitrose for nutrition but for some reason the fitbit food analysis section has stopped allowing me to edit or add foods/values. Real pain as I had complete menus stored which need to be modified.Hi Ian pleased you are starting to find a way forward. @Moggely no fear of me thinking anyone a sticky beak. No problems with bg levels or food per se just saw a problem developing and knew it needed to be addressed head on.@ianpspurs . Hi are you having some problems food wise or is it to do with your blood levels..
Oh i see @ianpspurs . I hope it gets sorted out quickly for you and nothing like tackling it head on. Good luck.@Moggely no fear of me thinking anyone a sticky beak. No problems with bg levels or food per se just saw a problem developing and knew it needed to be addressed head on.
Oh, there will be meat @PenguinMum. I was just working out the veggie carbs to accompany the meat or fish or cheese and eggs.@ianpspurs glad to hear the cabinet met and came up with a plan. I have no problem eating vegetarian eitherbut do you think excluding meat might make a difference or is that still at the consultation stage.
