What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

O/T a little but this is the Waitrose Lamb Kleftico thread - now has 20% off :woot::woot:
@jayney27 Both my parents died on the same day very suddenly so I really do get the "here today gone tomorrow" theme. I too am more healthy than I was 4 years ago but for me that doesn't preclude working as hard as I can to be a better/healthier version of that person. If I will the ends I also have to will the means and if that means work, restraint or whatever then that is what I will do. I can only see this in sports terms as I understand that best. Right now I know I have "left a few out there" i.e. under performed and that is what has always burned away inside me until I have been given the chance to put it right and satisfied myself that I have done so.
I think we are on the same page it is just that this has become my make the most of life task - become the healthiest I can so I can live as long and actively as possible. I see it as honouring my promise to my wife in wedding vows as much financially as anything else - 1/2 my pension dies with me. Those results show me I have more to do.:)

I agree with your thesis, life is for living, none of us knows how long that life will be so we should make every effort to enjoy it to the best of ability.
OK so we have an extra equation to deal with, you know the one, diabetes, but if like me, many of us are more in control and healthier than we were before diagnosis so in some ways its a blessing.
I lost my mum 15 years ago, she didn't have a condition that she could try to control or improve, it was very aggressive and very quick. She didn't always live her life to make the most of each day, she often put off what she wanted to do today until tomorrow, then one day there were not many tomorrows for her, that taught me, to do, within reason, what I can, when I want, ect and to enjoy it.

Your last sentence says it all, as anyone who knows me will know.

Ian, can I try to put something into context for you, please?

If you rocked up to your Doc today, for your howevermanyyearsold crumblie health check, as a non-diabetic, and tested as you did, there would be zero said. Zero.

You would be assessed as a healthy chap, not carrying weight, avoiding the big T2 and told you'd be called back for a repeat in a few years time. Why not celebrate that reality?

Sorry for being a bit off-topic everyone.

@DCUKMod The context for me is a level of performance I missed.
The bg level in and of itself is fine but it could be lower and isn't because I have got other things wrong IMHO. I see it as what is called referred pain. It is a signifier so something or things are not optimised. Anyhow, I have taken up too much time and too many people's bandwidth over this. Time to move on.

Evening all. Always feel like I’ve missed out on so much chatter while out at work. Thanks for the lamb kleftico tip off @ianpspurs - don’t really need to buy any more meat, but might be tempted!

Planned OMAD didn’t happen as felt v hungry at lunchtime.

Breakfast - none.

Lunch - M&S Serrano ham and manchego cheese rollitos and a bag of M&S pork crackling.

Snack - succumbed to some Sainsbury’s 85% chocolate while out this afternoon.

Dinner - fathead pizza with pepperoni and Polish sausage topping. Reduced ingredients by 30% as not so hungry after eating lunch. Made for a very dinky pizza (see attached). Followed by 3 Hotel Chocolat 100% buttons.

Evening all what a lovely sunny day it has been - busy though as off to mums 120 miles away first thing in am so a lot to get ready. I’ve also been behind because of conference. I also had to deal with a work related issue - and time hadn’t been factored in! Oh well sure will have time to pack later when have watered garden or first thing in am!
Breakfast one boiled egg with one slice low carb bread with coffee with inulin
Lunch small can of mackerel in olive oil with two spoons olive oil hummus and four low carb seed crispbread followed by slice low carb lemon drizzle and two teaspoons of my new fage yoghurt
Dinner chicken curry with med veg and celeriac cubes with one slice low carb bread cooked in coconut oil followed by 5 strawberries and a couple of spoons of fage Greek yoghurt
Taking all the meals for weekend and ingredients up with me plus huge amount of home grown strawberries the crop is huge this year! As I now do all food prep when at mums it’s easier to keep low carb. Back Sunday will log then. Hope everyone has a brilliant weekend in the promised sunny weather.

Another glorious day here. Sun, blue skies, refreshing breeze.
It is astonishing how great vitamin D is. I no longer burn in the sun, thanks to a supplement! All my life i have been milk bottle pale and a lobster after 5 mins in the sun, even with spf.
Now, well supplemented by D3, i can spend hours in the sun, glow a teensy bit, and go light brown. Same spf.
Love it!
Must have been vit D deficient since my teens, because that is when I started burning really badly, and became a mushroom.

1pm a measely chicken, bacon and avocado salad. The size of a starter. Wish I hadn’t bothered and had stayed ZC.
2pm a magnificent mint choc chip icecream sundae. Whipped cream and choc flake. Bg hit 8 for an hour or so, but it was a slow gentle hummock, not a spike. Thanks to the cream.
7.30pm 2 small chicken breasts with cheese over.

Unfortunately we went to a fab collection of shops this afternoon, after exhausting the dogs. A few choc bars, 50cl of sloe gin and a small bag of Wasapeas fell into my basket.

Tomorrow is a fresh start, I’m sure you enjoyed today and your little indulgences, you are on holiday after all.

Well, i have just tried the Balance stevia sweetened choc. Very disappointing. About level with a Yorkie on the Chocometer Scale, so quite tasteless, rather waxy and with a bitter Stevia aftertaste. Total waste of £3.59

Hello everyone
Gorgeous weather shame most of my day was spent inside, however I did spend majority of my lunch break outside, I sat out to eat and then went for a walk and some donkey nuzzles.
Been a bit all over the place with food today, nothing seemed to hit the spot and therefore seemed to snack more!
B - 1 slice livlife toasted with peanut butter
Last halloumi and bacon creation
20g portion of Tesco luxury coffee chocolate almonds, these are very moreish, glad I had taken the weighed portion with me
L - roast beef salad, al fresco style
Very small slice of olive oil chocolate cake
D - chicken curry and cauliflower, tomato side dish with a poppadom
Feeling full but still not feeling satisfied, roll on bed time when all temptation will be out of reach!

B: coconut porridge with a spoonful of cream and 2 strawberries. Coffee and cream

L: Avocado with M&S prawn cocktail. 1/2 slice lemon drizzle cake. Coffee and cream

MAS: Adonis brownie

D: Smoked haddock on buttered spinach with a poached egg on top. About 5 strawberries and extra thick double cream

I’m envious of your lovely home grown strawberries @shelley262. I found 2 raspberries in our garden today, quite early for them but they were perfectly ripe and delicious ( I popped them in my mouth and didn’t even think about sharing them)

Breakfast: my usual low carb coconut ‘porridge’ with strawberries and cream washed down with a black coffee.
Lunch: 2 x boiled eggs with Marmite soldiers made from one slice of HiLo followed by Greek yoghurt and raspberries.
Mid afternoon: Adonis red bar and black coffee.
Dinner: cold roast chicken with salad of cauliflower, broccoli and radish followed by a couple of strawberries and a Breyers choc ice.

@jayney27 I love those Tesco Finest coffee and chocolate almonds. I often have a small portion at bedtime if I’m hungry. I take the measured portion up to bed with me, to stop me eating too many, as I can’t be bothered to go back downstairs to the kitchen for more!
:joyful::hilarious:

I found them by chance yesterday, they are very nice and I agree with you about only having a measured portion then keeping the rest out of reach, I imagine I could eat far too many if given half a chance :joyful::hungry:

I think I will deliberately not look out for them - they sound far too more-ish!

I discovered them at Xmas and thought they were just for Xmas but they are still on sale thank goodness as they make a change from plain nuts :hungry:

Bed 6.1 FBG was also 6.1. 2nd day of pretty much stable BGs. Quick breakfast as I had my regular visit to my good looking 'sadist' (My physio - it was a discussion some time ago). He feels my exercise regime is starting to pay off. I can't get rid of the spinal injuries but any improvement is good news. Also had swimming with No 1.
B. Slice GF black pudding, slice back bacon, bit of Mattesons smoked sausage , fried egg and a Tassimo Americano grande with a dash of cream.
L. Physio, swimming then taking son shopping. Lunch ? You are joking!
D. 2 pan fried lemon sole, wilted spinach, these Tesco buffalo cauliflower bits. Halo Top

Also pleased to report the zombie babies arrived. Should have seen the smile on No 1s face. We now have triplet zombie babies!
