I think it might just be an Australian thing, it's good on chook wings (ooops!).I've never seen that one - fairly sure they dont do it over here.
We used to eat it a lot when I worked in Kenya and Uganda. It’s called Tilapia there and popularly served with Ungali and piri piri, very hot chili peppers. I think that the piri piri is to disguise the flavour of the ungali as, although you think it is mashed potato the first time you try it, it’s really a cunningly disguised, awful tasting stodgy mess made from cornmeal of maize flour. It's imported from somewhere in Africa, as it is not a local fish.
@Mongolia I’m not “old enough” here to welcome you back, but it’s good to meet you! This snickerdoodle pancake- egg yolk and cinnamon flavors? Great concept!
@Tipetoo and @dunelm aha! Tilapia I know! It’s a very common and inexpensive fish here, usually farmed if fresh (yuk). Dunelm, have a great visit with sis! Why did I think you were in UK? If she feeds you vegan, you might see lots of soy substituting for everything under the sun.
I’ve been awake coughing since 0445. It’s now almost 7:00. Dear Mr ZF seems to have coughed his disease into my lungs. Good thing the day is fairly clear, because the first order of it (the day) is to go to my primary care’s urgent care center and find out what I have. :-/
Sorry to hear of your cough and hope the urgent care centre sorts you out ASAP. As for what you have, an indomitable spirit, genuine concern for your fellow human beings and my total respect (worthless but once given y'all can't shake it off)@Mongolia I’m not “old enough” here to welcome you back, but it’s good to meet you! General question - anyone used Morrisons food flavourings? Cheap and intriguing but little/no nutritional information. Also, how many is a few drops to make this huge sack of Callebaut 100% we still have edible - I can't lie to myself anymore that I can eat this stuff. That way madness lies.
I loved Tilapia when I was in Uganda. I remember dining out one evening with a very well respected headmaster of a school and was told there was no Tilapia. He laughed and said how can there be no tilapia when the Nile is on our doorstep. We will wait ...... 4 hrs we waited but were indeed served tilapia. I have my suspicions it was just bought from a neighbouring restaurant and they made us wait for him being like that with them, but the idea of them sending a poor staff member to go fishing in the Nile whilst we sat there was a little amusingWe used to eat it a lot when I worked in Kenya and Uganda. Thanks for that @BibaBee. In general I fully subscribe to the get what you pay for rule but with LC not so much. I just want the nasty taste of dark chocolate gone with minimal bg rise. If that works we may graduate to better quality although I suspect this is another case where "store bought" (Green and Blacks) beats home made. Many thanks for taking the trouble to reply.I think most of them are rapeseed oil based. Don't buy the almond one...it was really bland and I suspect 99% rapeseed.
Edit to add that I've always found the Nielsen-Massey ones to be the best quality, but they are pricey. You get what you pay for.

I was based in a town called Jinja, right next to where Lake Victoria meets the source of the Nile and had to cross the river daily to get to work. Memories that will stay with me forever!I loved Uganda - the last time I had Tilapia was in a place called Pakwach having crossed the Parra Ferry in Murchison Falls Park - I was traveling to Koboko and then to the camps in Yei, South Sudan. Interesting times.
Surely cheese on it's own constitutes a whole proper meal!Flu type symptoms have segued in to tummy bug type AND flu like symptoms - which is an issue if you are sneezing and coughing a lot like I am at the moment. I just can't be bothered to eat so today will OMAD or, possibly, fasting (although Mr C doesn't like me fasting when I'm poorly - he believes in the old saying 'Feed a cold to starve a fever). Bit late for that.
So, today.....
Egg and probably some kind of tinned fish salad with mayo. If i can be bothered to boil the eggs. Or open the tin of fish.
All i really feel like eating is cheese - on its own.![]()
