What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

It may have looked okay, but it wasn't all that great. I couldn't get the button mushrooms that I like, the steak was a bit chewy (it was grass-fed, 36-day aged, but you never can tell) and the broccoli wasn't that tasty (I think I prefer "normal" broccoli). But my CGM approves!
Hi @IanBish. That broccoli looks like 'tendertsem' which is one of Monsanto's creations. I'm afraid it's no match for early purple sprouting broccoli, which should be ready for harvesting next month.

Evening all

Today:

B: Two poached eggs topped with a knob of butter, avocado and four tiger prawns, seasoned with a good grinding of black pepper.
Water to swallow tablet.
Espresso.

L: Courgetti con sugo di melanzana made with aubergines, celery, carrot and onion, passata, garlic, rosemary, butter, olive oil and spiralised courgettes, finished with grated Parmesan.
Steamed French beans and mangetout smothered with butter.
Skipped pud
Water to drink.

D: Seafood salad made with brown shrimps, mussels, finely shredded red cabbage, apple peel, celery, baby plum tomatoes and mustard cress with a dollop of aioli for dipping, topped with parsley and toasted pistachios.
Water to wash down tablets.

It was. I didn't realise it was created by Monsanto! I like the purple sprouting broccoli, as well as the normal stuff, so I'll look out for that. Thank you.

edit: I can't read

Agreed, def hard to tell with steaks, haven't had a nice big steak for a while though.

Mishmash of blitzed cauli again to use up what I had in the fridge prior to shopping. Onion, garlic, pepper, boursin, all mixed in the pan with some olives that weren't all that nice to pick at - very briney tasting, marinated them a few hours and were okay for cooking. Threw some other cheese on with some cold cuts of beef.

might have a few spoons of cream with some berries to follow, might not, leaving the dust to settle.

It is. I like Aldi's steaks, but my local one has closed for refurbishment, so this one was from Lidl. Their 10% Greek yoghurt is lovely though. We won't mention Lidl's wine though.

Lidl has/d a lovely bakery section but alas not the section I'm visiting any more.

Prefer ALDI for sure, funnily I went to our local and it was a building site last week, missing it, so had to take a round trip.

Purple sprouting broccoli is one of my favourite vegetables, but I enjoy the vegetable that greengrocers call broccoli, as well. (Strictly speaking it's calabrese and greengocers have muddied the water referring to it as broccoli).

Incidentally, purple sprouting broccoli is easy to grow and takes up very little space in the garden.

I got some high protein (low-ish carb) rolls from there around Christmas, and they were lovely, but they seem to be no more.

Do you live near me, I wonder? Mine is a building site at the moment too.

Was thinking the same for a minute, could be a coincidence, just sent you a message as not to go too far off topic.

Beautiful sunny day.
B. Last of the zucchini bread and jam. I did buy another zucchini this pm though to make more tomorrow.
L. McDonalds burger without the bread. First in years but when you have a free coupon….
D. Tequila lime grilled chicken, pico de gallo, and a small portion black bean salad.

No idea what to call todays meal, but it tasted pretty good for a thrown together meal. :)

I really like meatballs but 3 days is enough, even though I still had enough left of the mix to make meatballs for two more days.
So I fried a large onion, added the mince/cheese/onion/egg mix that was supposed to become meatballs, and a tin of tomatoes and let it simmer for a while.
After that I added chinese cabbage and some spices for the last 5 minutes.

Enough left for two more days but I guess I'd better freeze it.
I'm driving to Germany with a friend tomorrow to buy tobacco and booze, and have a leisurely walk around the supermarket in general.
I went there last summer as well, and the supermarket sold heated schweinshaxe which was pretty amazing, no such thing in my country. It's something like a giant pork lollipop! So now I'm hoping they still sell them, in which case I won't need a proper meal after coming home. :joyful:

Our Lidl sometimes has vacuum packed, cooked schweinhaxe on sale, on the Taste of Bavaria” weeks.

They did, the name had escaped me, I had one last year & guess what.... they have them again this Alps week! :)

I also had sirloin steak for dinner with mushrooms & swede chips.

Have a good trip, @Antje77!

Enjoy your day out in Germany we have a trip planned in late April to Hamburg hope you find lots of goodies

Thank you. I used to get a ham hock to make soup with sometimes ( before our butcher retired and took the heart out of the village) but I guess ham’s been cured so it’s not the same. I’ll have to look out for a plain pork hock/knuckle, I’d like to try this.
Our butcher has far more pork hocks than ham hocks because their cured meats are prepared elsewhere.

I know you buy larger "lots" of meats. I wonder if the butcher you buy those from might be able to help.

A pork hock from the butcher is about £3.50, with ham a few pennies more, so cheap as celeriac chips. :)

Here's a glimpse into my low-carb eats for today:

Breakfast: Indulged in a hearty omelette filled with spinach, mushrooms, and cheese. It's my go-to morning fuel that keeps me energized and focused.

Lunch: Savored a vibrant salad bursting with flavors - grilled chicken, avocado, cucumber, and a sprinkle of feta cheese atop a bed of mixed greens. It's a wholesome meal that never disappoints.

Snack: Reached for a handful of crunchy almonds and some slices of cheese for a satisfying midday nibble. It's the perfect combo of protein and healthy fats to keep hunger at bay.

Dinner: Planning to whip up a mouthwatering dish of grilled salmon with roasted asparagus and a side salad. It's a simple yet elegant meal that's both nutritious and delicious.

Morning all. Yesterday's monday lunch was chicken pie (I left the pastry) 2 scoops mashed spuds (I gave one to my neighbour at the table) carrots and broccoli. I took my own pudding (lemon and lime mousse made with sf jelly, yoghurt and quark). I manage it as best I can because I like the company. Today I am having lc sausages, cauli mash and broccoli with lc gravy. Have just boiled the life out of 2 boiled eggs, forgot they were on till I read a posting that said 2 boiled eggs! Didn't hear the timer go off. Have a lovely day all.
