REUTERS:
HEALTH DESK : Reports coming from India that the Mediterranean diet may have competition

Typical meals have been tandoori chicken, veg..half nan bread .one large Heineken
Half a dozen bloody Mary's, prawns in garlic, with chicken satay sauce, two vodka diet cokes..pre 5.5...post 6.1....
;) "

I hope you are enjoying your trip - I'm envious.

I have a son-in-law from India (Andhra Pradesh) and cook and eat Indian food often. I find Indian food is generally not difficult to eat low carb, especially north Indian or Hyderabadi or Chettinad (however south Indian vegetarian however is generally a no go.) When I eat out, it is either Indian or an all day breakfast place.

Yes there are foods I have to pass on - all the desserts (which I miss, I have a big sweet tooth), dals (which spike me), naan and other breads, potatoes, rice including biryani, dosa and idlies. However, there are still lots of options that are very compatible with low carb eating. Unlike some ethnic cuisines, Indians don't usually put sugar in their sauces and don't use wheat flour as a thickener.

6.2 and i was happy
Then after lunch it went over 10 and i am hating myself ☹️

Don’t hate yourself, this is a learning experience for us all. Whatever you had for lunch doesn’t sound like it was a good meal for you. You’re doing the right thing by measuring before and after meals, it’s the only way you’ll know what you can tolerate and which foods are a no- no.

@True Blue well done on bringing your HbA1c down. You are definitely going in the right direction.
@ziggy_w that tapas place certainly seems to agree with you, what a lovely evening. Can’t believe you were sitting outside in the evening though.
@Nicel don’t worry, you’ve got your head out of the sand now and started testing- That’s a great start and you’ll soon see which foods are ok to eat and your numbers will start to drop.
@Caesaji what great progress!

It's a thought - would need people about to do that though.

Plenty of people in my apartment building -- and some of them would think it would be great for reaching out windows and plucking the cigarettes out of smokers' fingers ... peanuts from those who want to feed the squirrels ... kibble from the people who want to feed the members of our feral cat colony ... I would love it for trimming back the hollies that have grown themselves into organic sunblock.

Thanks for all your replies. I got a 4.1 before my low carb curry tea. No metformin at all. I'm planning to knock it off any day I'm under 5.5 until i get to see a doctor in a few weeks. It has felt a bit shaky being so low, not had a 4 anything for 2 years til now!!

Been working hard building a green house today. Moving is hard work!!

I just Googled "pickaxe" a little while ago and realized that what I was calling a pickaxe all those years ago (when I had a garden) was actually a mattock instead!

What I really loved was this:

63.5 year old boy with toy for trimming hedges and banks. Inordinately happy doing that type of job especially compared to the dire homus domesticus nonsense. What's it doing in this thread? By far my favourite and probably most effective way of controlling bg - do useful things outdoors (don't include walking personally) . Gym mimics them but never quite the same for me. (wow, I look so much like my dad in that picture)

Insulin
Hello, my blood glucose started at 434 last week via lab work results. I was shocked but it explained my extreme fatigue, thirst and blurry vision. After starting insulin on tuesday, my One touch Vero device is reading 304-340 wed, thu and this morning. I'm not sure what to expect how long this will take to go down.

I eat a healthy diet, vigilant in avoiding sugar and limiting carbs.
I don't have anything to account for this huge spike as far as my diet; I can only assume it's a lack of exercise and stress?
Edited: Should also note I was checked into the hospital for 1/2 day on Tuesday due to those results, along with insulin injection and self-testing training. Seeing my endocrinologist for further care and discussion this coming Tuesday.
