I've been prescribed a stating. And my cholesterol numbers were already good. I understand this is done as a prevention measure. But
I have not been able to move around very well since. And I had just worked myself up to nearly 30 minutes a day exercise.
So when I told my Dr he gave me a new one. But still the same effects from the new one.
I really miss doing the exercise.
Wouldn't the exercise have helped more conditions than just the prevention of one condition?
What would you do?
I've already decided but I'd like to know what others think or do.

I have refused statins when offered, and I am not likely to change.

I think you need to weigh up the pros and cons for yourself, you know how your body feels better than the GP. They can only advise not dictate any treatment. Personally I would prefer to maintain my quality of life by doing (or not doing) whatever is needed to achieve that.

In 2012, when my lipid profile was within the stated goalposts for a diabetic, I was prescribed a statin by our practice nurse.

I didn't experience the muscle pains I had been asked to report but, despite sleeping well, I was unusually tired all day long. Everyday activities were a struggle. I felt as though heavy weights had been tied to each limb.

The nurse wanted me to try a different brand but, after 3 weeks with no improvement, I made an appointment to see my GP and, with his agreement, stopped taking the drug. So far, my lipid profile remains within normal limits without medication.

They stopped nagging me. I saw what it has done to my mum and it has transpired my dad had issues with them also. At 82 he stopped taking them. Mum didn't and she is in a very sorry state now.
The more they nagged the less I was going to take them one doctor gave me a prescription waste of time because I wasn't taking going to take them and never have :)

Every year my GP has advised me to take a statin. I refuse. Now he still asks but says, whilst laughing, “Can I tempt you to take a statin?” He laughs as he already knows the answer.
if you’re interested go on YouTube and search ‘Dr Robert Cywes - statins’. Very interesting and reliable information.

Statins turned my joints into ground glass, so they were a hard no for me. If your cholesterol is already excellent, why bother? I do thin you make a good point about the exercise. That'll help more than a statin does, that you don't actually need.

Yes now I have to get back into the exercise.

I started taking them I about April 2007 and my legs were awful, muscle cramps and such. These were prescribed by a specialist who didn't have a clue what was going on with my being ill all the time, and not testing for anything. I came off them! The then specialist dismissed me as just being T2, with a fatty liver probably alcohol!
When I finally got a true diagnosis from another specialist, who did all the tests. Not T2, and NAFL. No alcohol related. He advised me to stay away from startins, unless I have had coronary issues or heart health issues such as angina. He told me in no uncertain terms to stay away from them as I lost weight and regained my health.
Of course, my ever revolving door of new GP's, keep asking!!!

Nah!

After the drug companies commissioned and performed their study into statin side effects, which proved "conclusively" that statins did NOT have any side effects, then the GP's are reluctant to withdraw treatment. My GP and I visited all the known manufacturers at the time, and eventually I exercised my right to refuse,, I have been labelled as Statin allergic in my medical records, and am no longer having "the Talk" so maybe it is time for you to do "The Walk".too?
