What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Well the Droste cacao has arrived and feel a bit cheated as box lists carbs as different to on the site
@ianpspurs you were right it was too good to be true. It’s lower than many but Lidl keeps the low carb crown!
Droste is 11.1g of carbs per 100g.
As it’s not cheap and more than Lidl’s Cocoa feel a trip to Lidl would be a good idea soon!

Shelley - I'd let them know of the mismatch as I doubt they will want to be misleading anyone, even if mistakenly.

Yesterday, My OH went to fill his car with fuel, at our local Tesco. He'd gone there because the Petrol Prices app gave it as being lowest in our town, and on his way to and from the Golf Club.

On beginning his fill, he noticed the pump stating a price 2p per litre more that either the roadside sign or the Petrol Prices app.

He carried on filling up as his fuel light had come on, but went into the store to let them know of the mismatch. Whilst he was there a Tesco employee scuttled out to change the roadside sign, and he left with a profuse apology and a £5 Tesco gift card. He hadn't expected anything, but found it a pleasant surprise.

I'm not suggesting your supplier will act in the same way.

Hi all. Playing catch up today. Sunday’s lack of sleep caught up with me yesterday evening - literally thought I was going to fall asleep walking home after Pilates. So quick drink of water when I got home and straight to bed. Much better sleep last night.

@shelley262 glad you got the dentist out of the way and is it really time for your HbA1c? Doesn’t seem 5 minutes since the last one.

@Robbity your dinner yesterday sounds delicious.

@jayney27 have a fantastic holiday.

@ziggy_w hope your work doesn’t get as busy as it was before the holiday.

Getting back on topic, have eaten way too much the past couple of days.

Yesterday’s lunch was M&S Serrano ham and manchego rollitos with a bag of their pork crackling followed up by some clotted cream and almonds. Dinner was 2 Waitrose Cumberland sausages and 2 rashers bacon with almond butter and cream for dessert.

Today lunch was smoked salmon and cream cheese and 30g almonds. Dinner was the largest mutton leg steak you’ve ever seen and way too much almond butter and cream and 3 hotel chocolat 100% drops.

Editing to say thanks @shelley262 am fine - just been a bit of a whirl.
Thank you I shall think of you while I hunt down dark chocolate ;)

Very pleased to be still able to be in shorts and polo shirt into 2nd week of October. @shelley262 thanks for the feedback on the cocoa - did you use any? @Goonergal sympathise with the early wake up and dropping off. @jayney27 hope all goes well stateside. OMAD day so I expect another early start and high fbg.
Breakfast: Tea
Dockey : Americano with cream after swimming
Lunch : Salad with Mackerel in olive oil and avocado; plenty of chia seeds and tsp psyllium husk powder
Mid Afternoon: Tea
Evening meal: None went to the fair with grandson - smells were very tempting

Evenin’

A very simple day today - no breakfast, then prawns in chilli lime avo mayo at lunch, and good quality beef mince stir fried with just salt this evening. Then goatsmilk yog.

Yes, the avocado mayo has arrived. Intense chilli lime flavour! Hothothot! Very nice. Should really have used the plain one first, to assess the flavour, but... prawns!

Hi everyone, gentle start to my day, lovely not to have to rush around getting ready for work.
Coffee and cream, in bed, how decadent
Didn’t bother with breakfast as I didn’t feel particularly hungry, for once my readings didn’t continue to climb so by lunchtime I was still the same as my waking one.
L M&S prawns in coriander and chilli, cucumber and whipped cream cheese, bullet proof coffee
Almond milk cappuccino late afternoon while doing all the ironing
Been naughty this evening, had a chicken curry from a local Chinese takeaway, first time since diagnoses, didn’t have rice I had some cauliflower rice, be interesting to see what the meter says, I generally find an indian curry is ok

Yes, Michaelmas is end of September but the fair is/has for 400 years been held for 3 days from the 2nd Monday in October. I think it was to allow the harvest to end . Personally, very uneasy about Halloween.
Agree with being uneasy with the modern, secular way to celebrate Halloween. As a child I knew it as All Hallows Eve. A time of reflection prior to All Saints and All Souls feast days. Bobbing for apples and party games were on 1st November.

Breakfast: Slice f Livlife with lots of butter, herb & garlic Boursin,; coffee with cream &Truvia

Lunch: ham with sugar snap peas , mangetout and pea shoots, with mint, lemon juice & zest and a good dollop of Hellmanns; Halo Top vanilla ice cream with more of my chocolate hazelnut muffin, turmeric tea

Dinner; fish pie - fish pie mix with parsley & cream cheese sauce and a cauli mash and toasted parmesan topping; redcurrants and creme fraiche with a little powdered erythritol; cinnamon tea; piece of Lindt 85% choc;

And enough water to sink a ship...some of it with a little fresh lemon juice today.

Hello all,

Was home late yesterday and with cooking as well as exercise didn't manage to post.

@Goonergal -- Happy to hear you caught up on some sleep and are feeling a bit better. Also thanks for kind wishes -- this semester should be much better than last due to a lower teaching load than usual. Had carried an overload for the last few years, so dropped a few classes to compensate this semester. Am intending to do a bit of research -- let's see how that goes.

@jayney27 -- Hope you enjoy your vacation. You mentioned that you'll be leaving on Friday. Where to?

@DJC3 -- Thank you and agree. Time seems to fly when you enjoy yourself. Having coffee in bed sounds heavenly.

Yesterday ...

Breakfast: A DD keto roll with mayonnaise, gouda cheese and beef salami.

Lunch: Nothing.

Snack: Two squares of 85% chocolate.

Dinner: Two small to medium calamari fried in butter and olive oil. Lamb's lettuce with fried onions, beef salami, and a homemade dressing of buttermilk, mayonnaise, salt, erythritol and balsamic vinegar. A glass of red wine.

I thought Ruby was going to be a goner but as soon as they said it tasted good you knew poor Jon was on the way out. Was very interesting vegan week. Who would have thought you could make meringue from chick pea juice.

Tuesday was a day of no appetite.
Breakfast: greek yogurt and walnuts, ginger tea
Lunch: low carb muffin and cheese, coffee.
No dinner, just plenty of sparkling mineral water the rest of the evening.

Catch up tome again. In case you think my menus are looking a bit repetitive they are! Using up fridge contents before we go. Should have been gone but now leaving crack of dawn tomorrow. At least it means cooked breakfast on the train.
Bed Sunday 6.8 FBG 7. BGs are sitting higher but it's stress related so I can live with it.
B. 4 rashers crispy streaky bacon, 1 fried egg and a Tassimo Americano grande with a dash of cream.
L. Nothing
D. More fridge leftovers. Slice each ox tongue, roast pork, turkey and some of the remains of yesterday's chicken. Remains of celeriac dauphinoise.
Halo Top and 6 raspberries.
Tuesday
Bed 6.2 FBG 5.9. This isn't as good as it sounds. Getting some high spikes after going to bed and again in the mornings. Stress as I said and at least daytime is fine.
B. Yet another morning of crispy streaky bacon and a fried egg. Tassimo Americano grande with a dash of cream and a slice of Tesco high protein bread toasted.
L. Nothing.
D. Some of each of M&S tuna with beans and red onion, anchovies, mozzarella pearls, remains of a prawn cocktail, 1/2 avocado, mini tomatoes , tiny bit lettuce and a mini vegetable spring roll. Odd I know but it was another leftover.

Was even more stressed today. No 1 was at the dentist to get some work done but never got that far as he freaked out. Poor wee soul was frightened and they don't have the time in NHS dentists to calm them. He wanted to refer him to the dental hospital to get him knocked out. My solution is he's coming to my dentist who has a very calming manner which No 1 is happy about. Poor wee soul this morning, tired and very puffy red eyes. He's got 2 weeks to get used to the idea.
Today
Bed 6.6 FBG 7. Didn't sleep well and noticed I hit 10.2 at 2.30 in the morning. At least DP is staying low today.
B. Yet again crispy bacon rashers and a fried egg with a Tassimo Americano grande with a dash of cream.
L. Nothing
D. Remains of yesterday's tuna and beans, anchovies, mozzarella pearls, 1/2 avocado , lettuce and tomatoes. Few chicken wings.
Last of the raspberries.

Feeding the boys tonight as it's parents evening. Case is all packed, hubby is getting on my nerves so will be banished to the pub later for a few hours (you'd never think I'd travelled for years and was used to organised packing and checking), washing all up to date and just a bit of cleaning to do.

@jayney27 - have a wonderful holiday and @DJC3 let me know how the aqua fit goes. Hope you get a good class as that makes all the difference.

Funnily enough I sent a newspaper clipping to my daughter a couple of months back on this very thing - she was sharing a house with a vegan at the time and toyed with the idea herself but thought she’d miss baking.
The meringues looked fine though didn’t they?

It prompted me to have a look online and it's listed as easy. Very curiously it says if you taste the raw mix it still has the taste of chickpeas but once it is cooked it disappears. Wonder how it would turn out with Monk fruit sweetener? They've also used it for chocolate mousse.
I wonder who on earth first though oh I'll make meringue out of chickboea juice?
