What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

I tried kimchi for the first time today too! Found it in a little artisan type food shop when I was out. Wasn’t sure about the smell in the beginning but the taste is amazing with hits of fresh ginger, garlic and chilli. I’m hooked. Where did you get yours from? Was it online?
Someone ( ?@Dunelm perhaps) posted a Youtube link to making your own a few weeks ago but I’ve lost it. It didn’t look too complicated.

Lesson learnt!! I won't ever again have kefir and kimchi on the same day!! At least I can blame the dogs. :smug:

Month's shopping all done and I'm fit to drop!

Breakfast: Toby Carvery buffet breakfast - I chose a couple of rashers of bacon and one egg plus rather too many of their sausages, mushrooms and baked beans. I

Lunch: Several freebie tasters of different cheeses and hams on cocktail sticks in Asda and Sainsbury's

Got home at 2.30 and felt a bit wobbly, tested and found that, despite that huge breakfast in Toby, my BGs had come down to 3.8 (from a FBG of 7.3 this morning)

Dinner: (Mr C is cooking) Chicken, aubergine, red onion and preserved lemon traybake with saffron, cumin, smoked paprika and ginger and a side salad

Dessert: Strawberries

Drinks: black decaff coffee, diet coke, mug of decaff tea with skimmed milk, still spring water, a glass or three of Prosecco

Hahaha! Known to Mr B as ‘a dutch oven’ hahaha!
I have no idea what he means...

Your menu for the day sounds SPLENDID.

How are your bgs doing with the more mature kefir?

@Brunneria - the more mature the kefir becomes the less it affects my BGs (and it also becomes more interesting to drink). I haven't tried brewing it yet for more than two days on the kitchen counter but up to four days in the fridge is current favourite. I've got several batches labelled up in the fridge to drunk in turn but I can't get Mr C to try it. (Not that he needs any help in producing Dutch Ovens.)

I love Fridays when Mr C cooks and I really love Toby carvery for breakfast so its extra special to get both on the same day.

We are going out tomorrow to somewhere near a Waitrose. I worked it out that its at least 25 years since I last went to a Waitrose so I would be grateful to everyone for any product suggestions that I can't get anywhere else. Livlife bread is top of my list.

Hi my fave Waitrose items are mainly the meat and fish - especially when on an offer! They do wonderful beef short rib which we have weekly, their lamb , their high percentage pork Waitrose 1 sausages, as is their pork ribs! Shame you’re not going on Friday as they do 20% off fish on Friday when stock up on their trout. They also do oppo ice cream and I love their frozen grilled veg very low carb and use them a lot in casseroles, curries etc. I also buy their blue mountain own brand filter coffee. Other thing I stock up on is Waitrose own brand sardines in olive oil 52p a tin love it also buy their own brand mackerel in olive oil but prefer the sardines. Their vintage cheddar is also a fave. Worth getting a Waitrose reward card as gives you a free coffee and newspaper. Just a few ideas! Enjoy your trip .

I don't really know much about Waitrose but I have heard people talk of their beef short ribs and ox cheek when on offer. They apparently also do frozen celeriac in "pellet form" and an even lower carb form of Haloumi called Milky's Hallum. Please do let me know what you make of Waitrose so that I too may venture unto one

Agree with all of this but when I went to the Truro branch this week for mackerel in olive oil ( can only get it in sunflower oil in local shop) it was £1 a tin and the sardines are £1:25! Thats a hella difference.
I love pretty much everything in Waitrose.

Wow wonder why? I only just bought 10 tins of the sardines at 52p last week! see https://www.waitrose.com/ecom/products/essential-waitrose-sardines-in-olive-oil/022539-11003-11004
And mackerel is a pound but, as said prefer the sardines. Are you sure they were sardines in olive oil essential brand?

Managed a short eating window today by virtue of spending most of the day in the car trundling up and down the A30 for various appointments and errands.
No breakfast.
Black coffee while waiting in the service centre for my car to get its annual service. Complimentary but as the service was £279 I wish I’d had a lot more!
Lunch at 1:30pm mackerel in olive oil with salad of leaves, avocado, 2 cherry toms. Then a few Brazil nuts with more CWC
Dinner @5:30 Oddly named DD stuffed cabbage casserole. Very filling but not my favourite recipe however my granddaughters who are staying the night, loved it, even the youngest who says she doesn’t like cabbage.
Gk yog and a few raspberries afterwards. Lots of tea to come during the evening I should think.

Yes they were the essential brand but that’s odd if your mackerel is the same price. I wonder if they’d made a mistake on the shelf labelling - or maybe I simply didn’t look properly. I usually get mackerel so wasn’t paying too much attention, but would have got sardines if they’d been that much cheaper. I’ll have to check next time and maybe ask one of the staff.

I have a monthly delivery from Waitrose to stock up on the frozen celeriac and tins of coconut cream, a vital ingredient for my breakfast! Only ordering monthly means I get sent vouchers regularly for money off my next 6 deliveries. I’ve never paid full price for a Waitrose shop!

Breakfast: my usual low carb coconut ‘porridge’ with strawberries and cream washed down with a black coffee.
Lunch: scrambled eggs on half a slice of Soya and linseed bread toasted and spread with butter and Marmite followed by Greek yoghurt and raspberries.
Mid afternoon: raspberry chia pudding and black coffee.
Dinner: Chinese style cold pork with cauliflower and broccoli, coleslaw and pork scratchings followed by a lemon Oppo cheesecake with cream and LC chocolate granola.

I’m a voucher girl too and deliberately flit from shop to shop waiting for next voucher to arrive before I shop there! Just had batch of Waitrose vouchers today so planning to use for a free online delivery which I’ll do tomorrow for when back from Scotland next week. Only away for a few days but great to get online delivery when been away.

Yes, I got my latest batch of vouchers yesterday! My bank gives cash back on Waitrose purchases too, so it’s all good :)

Another paperwork today but getting there - supporting medical evidence will hopefully arrive while away for a few days in Scotland next week from Monday - hope to get it all off in a week or so.
Breakfast mushrooms and scrambled eggs cooked in butter
Lunch vintage cheddar and Stilton with handful of nuts followed by two squares of montezumas 100%
Dinner trout in lemon butter with cauliflower cheese and spritzer with white wine and soda water followed by decaf coffee and cream with two squares of the montezumas choc.

Evening all! Rainy windy raw but not really cold for the rest of our vacation, clearing up the day we leave. Ah well, July awaits us. I channeled my late MIL this morning and walked into town for a newspaper. Bought some coffee beans too bc I'd bought wrong kind, 2 lbs of it, yesterday. It won't go to waste!
Bfast another departure: (seeking the one that stops DP, only give a slight rise, and doesn't circle round to bite me in the behind at the three hour mark. It wasn't this one: 2.5 eggs scrambled in olive oil, 3 broc florets from last night, DWCA1/2+1/2
Lunch more decaf, grocery shopping, a seltzer
Supper grilled cheese samdwiches! Mine on my brown bread, maybe asparagus and probably feta stuffed olives. MrZF on wheat bread, add can of tomato soup. So American! Making the mr a batch of from-mix double choc brownies, with added chips. No LC he!
Saw some Ghirardelli 100% baking chocolate and it has more carbs per square than the Lindt 90%. Wonder if it's all in the different square size!
