What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

@Rachox glad you got at least some sleep and lots'o'rest! Have you tried icing your feet?

Thanks for the suggestion but no ice or heat allowed! Just painkillers and elevation prescribed for two weeks! Pain level is coming down gradually, much less severe than the original ops when the metal work was put in!

Barre class in which my muscles started shaking before 5 minutes were out
Supper sitting out on the patio watching the hummingbirds fight around the feeder; same as bfast but a boiled egg test which my jaw passed, and spinach instead of avocado.
It's been a really pretty day-- not hot at all, mostly sunny, bearable humidity. Back to summer and rain tomorrow they do say.

Just looked up Barre workouts to see what it is. My back, knees and ankles were aching in sympathy! Well done, those of you who do this. I'm sure it is very good for you. Me? It would kill! Hope your jaw soon sorts itself out. Even the near dislocations I have had in the past were horrible and quite upsetting, so I feel for you.

I agree it’s as if our bodies are constantly trying to reset at a higher level, whether weight or bg, than we are hoping to attain. Like you I was eating a lot more a couple of years ago but I don’t remember having this much of a problem with bg then. It’s a constant battle isn’t it?

I completely agree - when I first started low carbing I lost 5 stone quickly (about a stone a month) but now I eat much less but have put at least 2 stone back on and my BGs are awful yet, if anything, I'm eating a better diet and less carbs.

A couple of years ago I did lose a stone and got amazing BGs by fasting for five days but the weight came back on very quickly and my BGs returned back to their previous level (plus a bit more) as soon as I went back to normal low carbing. My problem is definitely lack of activity which is something I can't do anything about. Maybe I ought to give fasting another go but definitely not for five days.

Today's food

Breakfast: plain omelette with carb free syrup
Lunch: Longley Farm cottage cheese, black olives and salad from garden
Dinner: the second half of the fake crustless hommity pie / broccoli and cauliflower cheese I made the other day

It's not yet 1:00 and the thunder has already started! @maglil my grandfather used to take my mom out on the porch to enjoy thunderstorms, because her mother was the one in the closet. So I'm a great fan, the louder the better![/QUOTE]
This used to be me, but since the flash flood in May this year, am aware of the potential for damage, which has tainted my enjoyment of the spectacle somewhat.
But. This week we got the roof fixed and the drains cleared. Stress surrounding storms significantly reduced as a result. No more indoor waterfalls.

Monday Bed 5.9 FBG 6.3. Wee bit catch up. No 1 grandson was back to nervous again going to school. Got super upset today and despite going in came back out and ran after me. I ended up having to go into school and waiting socially distanced from the deputy head until we knew he'd settled. They reckoned he'd had the weekend to stew on it and get anxious again. He was fine after about 20 mins. Meantime I'm getting exercise as only the main gate was open so I had a trek to get out (grounds are enormous). He's not the only one but it is distressing to see children so terrified by a virus.
B. TAG and a slice of LC toast with ox tongue and garlic whipped cheese (Lidl)
L. Nothing
D. 3 chicken drumsticks (air fried) , 1/2 avocado, 4 mini orange tomatoes, coleslaw and sour cream dip. 20200817_185632.jpg

@Antje77 "sleepover dogs" what a dear image! Time for a good old rocket box for the chocolate. Bearproof Army surplus ammunition box lol.
I know what I'll be searching for next time I visit the thrift store!

I love my sleepover dogs!
There are 2 sets of 2 dogs who regularly have sleepovers with me, sometimes all at the same time
With my own two dogs (the big one in the picture has died last winter, so 2 dogs left) it does get a bit crowded in my bed but those are still the best nights!

Not sure what I will eat yet, but it will involve lots of cheese, as I bought a French cheese platter at 35% off a couple of days ago and it needs to be eaten before it goes even further over the use by date :hungry:.

@Chook & @Brunneria @Goonergal - you are no doubt delighted to get the swabs out of the way. Here's hoping the results are what you want. @SlimLizzy - wondered where you were. Glad to see you back and glad to know I wasn't the only one confined to a cupboard during thunderstorms! @DJC3 - I'd love to get back to swimming but sadly that's one of many things still not allowed to open up here. There's a lack of fairness as we have clusters appearing but not all regions are being locked back down despite some areas being worse than ones where action is taken.
Tuesday bed 6.4 FBG was also 6.4
B. TAG - nothing else. Grandson still nervous but not as bad as yesterday.
L. Tomato and mayo sandwich on LC bread.
D. I made a pizza with Skinny Bread pizza mix. I am a great lover of Skinny Bread as you know but the best thing I can say about this is it's OK. A bit too "bloaty" if there is such a word. I'll try Dr Almond mix next time. I won't repeat the SkinnyBread pizza. Only ate about a third. Did have 4 squares of Godiva though.
I needed the Godiva (it was that or alcohol). I got into an argument at school pick up! I had got the eldest, while Hubby waited for the younger. When I got round to where they were before I knew it I had this "woman" screaming right in my face about how sick she was of my grandson constantly attacking her son and other children. I do mean right in my face. Told her back off, you don't have a mask on. Another screech "don't you walk away" - pointed out distancing, I'm diabetic and you have no right screaming in my face. Asked which child and as soon as I heard the name I just said - oh what a surprise. Called grandson over and she's screaming in his face - you headbutted my son and punched him. I asked grandson calmly what happened and he stated quite clearly he did not headbutt anyone. I then pointed out he does not lie. I knew he was concealing something but I wasn't about to find out with her screeching in everyone's faces. To give you an idea what I'm dealing with this boy has been the bane of our lives with grandson since nursery and he has major issues. His swearing is unbelievable. He manipulates children to do his bidding and he is known for attacking children so much so he has to have a full time "minder" in class. He lives near the boys and worse he is cruel to animals. DIL has caught him on numerous occasions kicking the cats but another neighbour saw him in a group of boys with his own little dog (looks like one of yours @Brunneria) laughing while he pulled the dog into the air by it's leash and watch it choke! 6 years old! Anyway, we later discovered from No 2 grandson (confirmed by playground staff) he did not "headbutt" him but he did hit him in retaliation as he was hurting one of his friends, he tried to get his friend away and he attacked him so he slapped him. He knows it is frowned on to retaliate but "what should I do when he attacks me-let him?". I saw the headmistress this morning and apologised for my anger yesterday but pointed out it was due to that woman screaming in my face and, as a diabetic, I didn't appreciate it especially now we know the full story. The things we have to deal with!

How awful for you and your grandson. What can you expect from the child when his mother is like that? That's a shocking way to behave - virus or no virus. Even worse at present of course. Why are people like that, more and more these days? Can't figure it out.

@MrsA2 you are allowed to lose track of days on holiday! I keep losing track just because I'm home all the time!
@shelley262 congrats on your "breakfast"!
@Rachox glad you got at least some sleep and lots'o'rest! Have you tried icing your feet?
@DJC3 PLEASE come back to the exercise thread! It's getting boring-- walk, barre, barre, walk....

Bfast same old same old. Avocado, pecans/avo oil (whizzed thoroughly to accommodate the sore jaw, scrambled eggs, flax crisps/dilute soymilk
Much phone time with insurance and mortgage companies getting a property covered
Snack before barre class of plain skyr with olive oil-- a known good flavor
Barre class in which my muscles started shaking before 5 minutes were out
Supper sitting out on the patio watching the hummingbirds fight around the feeder; same as bfast but a boiled egg test which my jaw passed, and spinach instead of avocado.

Zauberflote, you should really be seeing your dentist or maxilo-facial person to sort out that jaw, or it could take a long time.

Unless your jaw is extremely complicated (by injury, surgery or whatever), it should click back in, but the longer it is misaligned, the higher the likelihood that misalignment will become the new norm. Over the years that could be extremely troublesome.

Sorry for the gloom and doom, but that TMJ needs attention.

Chook - please don't think this confrontational, but could I ask what made you go veggie? I seem to recall not so long ago you were on quite a mixed diet, involving some meat, as well as the veggie options.

Just curious, really.

You're right, I used to be omnivorous - I especially loved lamb and fish.

Long story short.... I was introduced to a lovely friendly pig that was at least (if not more) intelligent than one of my dogs. Next morning Mr C cooked me my normal eggs and bacon breakfast and I looked at my dogs, looked at my plate and thought 'If the idea of eating dog is so repellent then why do I think its okay to eat pig'. so the dogs got the bacon. Then over the next week or so I just slowly found myself unable to eat any meat at all and even fish seems a problem. I have tried eating it again because it is horrendously restrictive being vegetarian AND low carbing but I can't.

Mr C has now also stopped eating pork but eats other animal proteins and fish.

This is Archie - gorgeous boy but definitely not as bright as that pig.

How absolutely dreadful for you! What a horrible experience.

I've heard that psychopaths often start off when young by tormenting and killing animals before moving on to humans.

Do you know if the head teacher has told the child's mother what really happened? I would say that going by the way she behaved towards you that the child has learned his antisocial behaviour from his mother.

@Annb the nice thing about barre class is, you adapt the moves the what you yourself can actually do. Some of the things I see online are so very unlike what we do, which is very non-traditional and sometimes diabolically inventive-- as much brain work as body!

@SlimLizzy I'm so sorry-- can only imagine being stressed at every cloudburst. I'm glad the roof and drains are improved, and may your stress remain low!
@maglil how awful for the kids being so anxious...and your "screaming mama" story sounds hideous. I am sorry, and hope the neighborhood kid gets some good help sooner rather than later.
@Antje77 that pic is astounding-- now if only dogs could purr!

I have to admit, I have a bad conscience eating meat. It seems wrong but my experience with vegetables and carbs indicate that I just have to eat meat or fish (but fish generally have too many bones) - it's a matter of survival. All those years ago when we were vegetarian (I went and married a vegetarian man, so went along with his ideas), I also ate quite a lot of carbs to make the vegetables at least edible. I think that was the beginning of all my issues with carbs. My issue with veg started a lot earlier - when I was about 4 and was forced to eat school meals (often raw veg and cheap meat). I try not to think about the live animal when cooking or eating.

Not at all, thank you for the concern and advice! If I hadn't started seeing improvement by yesterday, I would have gone down the ortho path.
The jaw has a history since I was in my teens. I could make it "pop", painlessly, and showed off with it. One day it wouldn't "pop", still no pain, and no loss of function. I went on to have an orchestral career as a flute player, which over the nearly 50 years of heavy playing has both strengthened the facial muscles and caused over-use wear and tear.
This particular thing happened once before, 10-ish years ago, from me eating raw carrots all day to stay awake on a long drive. Mushy foods for awhile, then normalcy edged in.
This time, I noticed a couple of months ago that my jaw felt less stable after having taken many weeks off playing. Started playing again, stability returned. Stopped playing regularly for a couple of weeks, ate this extremely tough chicken last Sunday, and this happened at the meal after that. I've played a couple of times since then-- it doesn't affect my embouchure at all. Things are improving meal by meal, so my playing is my physio (in my head anyway!) Strengthen the facial "corset", take a rest from tough chicken, and the jaw will come right incrementally.
Sorry so long OT! It is about the food I ate, anyway

Cracker with brie, piece of strong blue cheese, twice a bite of a peach, stolen from the guinea pigs (good thing they don't mind it when their food is missing a bite).
Evening meal will be leftover mixed veggies with pork belly and peanut sauce, plus a fried egg because the leftovers aren't enough to fill the plate.

@Antje77 that pic is astounding-- now if only dogs could purr!

No worries, usually one or two of the cats join us in bed when it's time to put my book aside and turn off the light, so purring is provided for!

BG last night 9.9. FBG at 7.30 - 9.2.

Tea only until 12.50, after my cleaning lady left, by which time BG was 11.0. It was RyVita and cheese for speed. I had to go to the Health Centre in Stornoway with the repeat sample they asked for.

In a while I will have a beefburger pattie (shop made) with cheese melted on it and some cucumber salad. Haven't checked on the carbs in the burger yet, but already had quite a few in the RyVita, so I might be over the limit today.

Only plus of the very, very, wet day here - it’s been non stop since waking up and still raining - is that I got lots of boring but necessary cleaning done! We’ve got OHs brother to stay in a day or so and a close family party on Saturday to celebrate OHs birthday - which is actually next Wednesday but certain family could only do weekend so our family celebration is early. Thankfully sunny weather is forecast for sat - so we will be able to distance and picnic in garden. We’ve got a small family now so it’s workable.
Breakfast - exercise session with HIT, stretching and resistance - still enjoying and sticking at it but will be a swim tomorrow
Lunch cheese and ham omelette
Dinner chicken marinated in Chinese spices and herbs served with salads from garden and a glass of dry white spritzer with soda water followed by DGF salted caramel brownie with spoon of yoghurt and cream. Just finished with decaff coffee and two squares of montezumas 100% choc with peppermint oil.

Evening all. Completed 30 hr fast. Not a happy bunny by the end of it, I was even getting grumpy with Dennis. Drank a lot of water today but still had a fuzzy head and felt out of sorts. I’ll see how it goes tomorrow. Evening meal was Salmon fillet topped with pesto, broccoli and sauce made with Greek yoghurt, mayo and pesto. DD recipe but not my favourite. Maybe it was because I felt so bad tempered.
@shelley262 I envy you your salads from the garden. What have you grown?
@Antje77 I love the dog bed photo. Took me a good 5 mins to decipher all the various bits of dog and how many there were.
@maglil55 what a horrible woman! Really outrageous behaviour. No wonder her son is a thug. Your air fried drumsticks look delicious were they marinated or coated in anything? Re pizza base I spotted in a Dr Almond email this week that they have a pizza dough mix on special offer atm. I was tempted but I need to use up some stuff in my cupboard first. Swimming is hard here too. The pool I usually go to is part of a holiday complex and will be heaving at the moment. I’ve no desire to go near it. Daughter went to Newquay shopping today and said it was terrible. Hordes of people, no social distancing and most without masks even in shops.
@Chook I can’t begin to imagine a 5 day fast. What was your mood like through it? Archie is adorable, such a great, lovable looking lad.
