What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Well after true adventures with Swipey last night pulling the sensor out of the applicator and miraculously finding a pic that shows how it should go in, and it working last night, I had a terrible night’s sleep.

Swipey came in at 6.4 ➡️.
My wonderful idea of being up and working out at 7am went out the window and now I can hear cave-dweller downstairs so I might just wait for him to leave for work and then get going as I feel suitable grumpy after an unsettled night so as not to feel chatty.

Good Morning and 5.9 for me today.

Looks like rain outside today but patches of ice and snow still around so no Muddy Cycle ride.

Let the day take you where it will. keep safe.

As you know, I love your quick plain air sketches (probably more than your finished work !) This painting sketch has a vibrancy and energy and an abstract like quality I like. You were probably getting nagged to hurry up! But it made for a great painting.
Thank you. I wasn't being nagged so much as the damp from the tree trunk I was leaning on had a limit before it penatrated my moleskin trousers. :)

Good morning everyone from another damp start to the day in the dark and dangerous north

The wonder wheel of a Joe Wicks Parmigiana with some chorizo added came in at 5.2 this am

Vaccines hitting the headlines this morning - choices, choices, rations, rations. The park has taken a bit of a hammering with quite a few paths now flooded, soggy-boggy rose garden and the weir that allows water from the lake to spill over and back into the stream is struggling to keep up. Welly boots are now the order of the day.

@gennepher - pleased that my paintings are giving you some pleasure - the search of the tardis must continue. Car - you should be able to move the fuse that powers the cigarette lighter up to an always live position. Perhaps call into a Halfords or where you purchased the car from?
@Muddy Cyclist - lovely quick sketch of Egdon Heath - a lot covered in so short a time.
@geefull - thank you for your kind comments. Fiddling about ‘gene’ working wonders with a very delicate flower.
@jjraak - good to read that you are on the mend.

Art today - a vista - somewhere in North Wales - seen on the web - can’t remember more - again, yellow rice paper. Hope is well. Remember, there is no bad weather (ish) - just bad choice of clothes - or location. On second thoughts - hide under your tables. Time for koffy.

Greetings for Monday from The Brecks/Fens border crossing. Fellow grandparents and any parents deserve hugs for the dilemma of how to blend safety and education. This administration was never chosen for competence but Gav is a byword in utter uselessness. There is mileage in admitting we are desperate for money so we need schools open in order that people can work. Anyhow, good to hear from you again @gennepher and I hope the battery charging goes well. @jjraak I am glad healing proceeds well . @Muddy Cyclist good work on the fbg front. @True Blue interesting choice of oil - speciality for boats? @Krystyna23040 do let us know which weather forecast proved closer to the truth. @RFSMarch (Rosinngton Bear) Curate's egg of a start there - maybe that will produce a PB of some kind. @dunelm you look very fetching in those wellies. My fbg was 5.4 after the roast beef and Yorkshire. Stayed in the low 4s from about 4.00 pm - mealtime - to around the trend up-an-at-'em time between 3.30 and 4.45. Exercise bike session, glass of red with meal and double bourbon contained the spike well enough. If folks want - Ros? - I will report back on the Yorkshire separately. Laters diabetes massive.

What a relief that must have been when your car started. It looks like you have a good plan to keep the battery topped up.
It worked this morning! And it was a beautiful dawn!
I will take a coffee tomorrow. I found a great lay-by to watch the dawn and the sun rise. Very uplifting.
And I found a great village shop which I have never passed by before and it had loads of delicious goodies!!!

Gennepher,
You can get an in car socket extender to plug in your in car socket and then be able get your car door shut and use a plug in charger outside the car with the car locked. Hopefully the charger can then be supplied from somewhere safe?
D.
The car socket, I presume you mean cigarette lighter (?), but it doesn't work unless the engine is running.
Is that the car socket you mean?

I am still looking for an emergency battery solution just in case. So I am open to suggestions. Thanks.

Ah. I didn't know that could be done. That would be very useful. I will explore that. Thanks.

Great painting this morning.
After a warm up, back in bed now (because I had car windows right down to get my fresh air this morning! And I am frozen stiff, but the cold fresh air was good), I will continue the Tardis search...

Anyhow, good to hear from you again @gennepher and I hope the battery charging goes well..
Thanks. It did. A beautiful dawn, wonderful sunrise. Found back roads I didn't know. Found village shops I had never seen before, better than the wild frontier shops on my high street, and these shops sold some nice and different, and some home made type stuff. Much more interesting.
And the car battery got some good charging. But the car display is not at its brightest yet, so needs some more trips!!!!

I have a wee bit of a battery problem with my car (as I suspect many of you may be experiencing with cars having an enforced rest. My car is only a year old, but because of Covid it has spent much of its first year sitting idly in my driveway. I discovered my battery problem at the shops on Saturday. The car refused to open. So I had to manually unlock it. Black screen of death on the iPad sized display, with just the words it had shut down displays and non essential stuff to conserve battery. Panic set in.

I pressed the button to start. Car started. Phew. But still blacked out displays. So I thought if I drive for a bit then this will recharge battery.

Anyway I drove to the next town where the law abiding citizens all had closed their non essential shops, in fact not one shop was open. So I am now driving on dual carriageways at 60mph, it was below freezing still so I wasn't risking 70 mph. Black screen of death still on displays. Two hours later the screens came back on. So I drove another half hour just to make sure.

Hi,

Check how tight your battery terminal connections actually are..
You might find you will get this intermittent issue regardless of how good your battery status is? ;) I got a voltage meter for that & all.

Sounds a little like an issue my wife's Keyless system motor had. she'd got a new battery fitted & was fine till the next morning....

I had to break in from the passenger side & pop the bonnet.
Mr "quickie battery fit" with his lightning speed forgot to tighten the connectors.. :banghead:

Ah!
I will check those connections.
It is a long time since I had a voltmeter. That might be an idea as well.

Thanks.

I only discovered they were lose whilst starting to remove the battery. So i cleaned up the terminals while they were off refitted tightened & the whole system clicked into life..

I'm actually surprised you managed to start your vehicle. Fuel cut off switches & immobilizer security.??
Which makes me think you were lucky at that point with the battery connector after entering the vehicle. Possibly a vibration getting in & closing the door??

If the issue persists (Relatively new car ?) you may need your dealer to run a system diagnostic..

Good Morening Ladies and Gentlemen and all who keep quiet on the political front.

A 5.9 on the meter of misbehaving and mystery.

Me and me's try to steer clear on the political and religious discussions, but not road kill and pet recipies. My new unpublished bok is not selling well, never mind.

Well folks and I trust you are well. Life begins again after the long festive break how are we all going to cope, I know not, perhaps copious amounts of koffy, yep that will be my plan.
Have a great day all.

Never a bad call to recheck wires etc
I always got jump leads, battery chargers etc, but for that extra peace of mind a friend recommended a particular portable battery charger

While it won't fix the underlying issue.
I found it useful as a "Get out of jail" card

Recommended one by a biker friend.
perfect size for a bike, fitted neatly under seat .
Bought in 2017..still working £55 Ish.

Size of one of those large phablet phones.
Light enough to carry in glove box
Charge at home via mains or in car by cigarette lighter
Jump start car, also useful for many other electrical devices.

Never used on bike
first use was poor chap in pc world car park.
Not starting so had flattened battery by time I walked over

Gave it a go ...and brum Brum in minutes.
Used on the civic a few winters back, before replacing battery.
Fired car up fine

My charger model not sold any more.

Halfords one very similar.

So Amazon search may provide some help
Bigger numbers is better, read reviews + due diligence.
Might provide a little more confidence in future if you have battery issues.
Hope it's not needed.

Hi Gennepher
They usually have a supply to operate a tyre pump or light when the engine and ignition are off. Hence the ability to reverse charge via the socket.
D.

My car has a live cigar socket.

It renders it virtually useless to switch it off like they do on your car.

Yes, car one year old.
I was surprised it started. Which was why I kept driving at that point, on dual carriageways mostly, until the displays came back on. I was very lucky I think.

That would be a good idea to contact the dealership if there is the slightest hint of this problem continuing. Thanks.
