What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

The dressing on the salad might have had sugar in it. The mayo in coleslaw too could contain sugar or sugar subsitutes with higher GI than sucrose.
I too had tofu salad with dressing on Monday afternoon(20/11/23). I also had handful of peanuts along with it. Within 30minutes reading on my libre reading was 104mg/dl(5.7mmol/L) and in an hour it was 116mg/dl(6.4mmol/l) which is unusual for me. Finger prick would have shown 136mg/dl(7.5mmol/l) but I didn't have sugar meter in office. After eating salad it is 104mg/dl maximum for me. I was also hungry again within 3hours of eating my lunch.

Then I realised the dressing or the spices on tofu contained ajinomoto. Ajinomoto(MSG) wrecks havoc on my sugar levels. I avoid eating pizzas, even low carb ones as they add ajinomoto. Therefore, I make zucini+almond flour pizza at home.

That’s interesting about the effect of MSG. Could you post the recipe for your pizza base please? I’d like to try it.

Went through most of the day with just 50g of pecan nuts, a mug of creamy cocoa, and a measure of G&T until 5pm when I tucked into a sirloin with mushrooms and cauli rice.

Kicking out the carb addiction really is the best anyone can do for their health, just got so much more energy these days, seasonal colds/flu accepted of course.

Carbs came in under 10g, but 'oh la la' the fats

Instead of a proper breakfast, I snacked on slices of ham (supermarket ham, so by definition, not up to much). Just didn't fancy anything really but tum was demanding something.

Later I have some pretty good quality pork sausages to have with French style peas. The only carbs are a little in the sausages and some in the peas. Don't know how many carbs that will be but it can't be much.

Darned phone just shouted at me again, but this time I was at my desk and could reach it before it went off. We really have to find a way to turn this function off.

@DJC3 - Just in case. I've just had an email from Klarstein saying 20% off everything, so that brings that AF oven down from £249 to £199.

Timing is everything sometimes, but never mind. We were happy to pay what we did, when we did.

That's cracking, but I fear another gadget would be a step too far currently!

We evicted one AF to make room for this one. The old AF had been used to near expiry, but what did for it was the seals on the door were failing, quite possibly because it had been taken apart several times for cleaning between the inner and outer "windows"

There's no radiation or such harmful stuff from AFs, but it felt a sign we should replace before it failed mid-something.

It sits nicely on the prep bench, and although it is bigger than it's predecessor, it fits fine.

It was 20% off yesterday. Today, it's still on sale, but at 19% off. Gone are the days of Black Friday being a single day..............

Thursday 23 November - bed 7.6 FBG 7.4 @DJC3 I do tend to find that explaining that nothing suits my food allergies (better than diet), so could I possibly have xxx extra instead of always works!

I woke up today thinking it was Friday and still nothing done for Christmas! Spent a fair bit of time assisting grandson with his essay on a WWI book. All done and submitted now.

B. TAG and 2 slices of SRSLY toast. One with ox tongue and Philly, the other coronation chicken. Benecol dairy free.

L. A bit of crustless quiche.

D. Yet more soup with a slice of SRSLY bread. CC Little chocolate pot with raspberries. Another gin and soda. My throat is still bad, the youngest grandson is back at school, the eldest is definitely coming down with this cold, and Hubby has succumbed to Norovirus! I decanted to another bedroom and hoped!

Friday, 24 November - bed 8 FBG 8.2. Still not great, but there is no way Hubby or eldest grandson will make it out for dinner this evening. I'd like to stay in but it's my "not quite my birthday" dinner. DIL picked up youngest from school at lunchtime so that I could go back to bed and rest. A long hot shower much later, plus paracetamol, and I felt much better. Hubby is recovering but not well enough to go out. Son is playing tomorrow, hence why the meal was tonight.

L. Nothing

D. Our reduced party of 4 made it to the seafood restaurant. I had the GF option of calamari to start. It was served with a very nice, edible salad garnish. To follow, it had to be a lobster thermidor. On the side, a really tasty GF broccoli tempura with garlic and parmesan. I had a diet coke. Since I was still not 100%, I took the car. The restaurant even came up with a dairy free Affogato for me, even though it was not on the menu (@DJC3 I asked). It's an unusual restaurant as you book everything online, and they asked for details of dietary requirements so they are prepared well in advance.

Lovely meal, then back to the invalids. Even nicer, son paid the bill! Additional photos - DIL had a goats cheese salad, son a "harbour plate", and GF, grandson, a medium rare steak. He informed the waiter he doesn't like it cremated!

Hubby has recovered enough to go out Saturday night. 20231124_193137.jpgIMG_22231.jpgIMG_22211.jpgIMG_22221.jpg

Small slice Swiss raclette before freezing. SRSLY large roll, butter, Cornish cruncher, cucumber, 4 cherry toms, 2 sticks fen celery, tea and water.
Garlic and herb spatchcock chicken (both thighs and unfortunately legs) roasted on a bed of Mediterranean veg, cauli and broccoli. More water and maybe a jigger of whisky or whiskey

What a fabulous meal and great service. It’s definitely worth asking! Such a shame you weren’t up to par though. I do hope you feel better soon.

Lovely bright day albeit cold - I don't know how others feel but I find I'm hungrier when it's cold. So three meals and a snack today
B kefir then two boiled eggs and low carb KC buttered roll
L left over roast pork with some fenland celery and kimchi
Mid afternoon one slice of low carb spiced fruit loaf toasted from freezer and buttered
D lamb curry with lots of fresh coriander and low carb roti plus a gin with soda water followed by LC chocolate brownie.
