Type 1 Why am I told that Low(er) Carb WOE isn't suitable for Type 1

Today I have again been told that a Low(er) Carbohydrate 'Way Of Eating' isn't suitable for Type 1 diabetics. Why is this when DCUK, DietDoctor, Diabetes.org/uk and Endocrinology.org all say that it may be suitable for a Type 1 diabetes patient? It is so frustrating to be told that as a T2D...

    Improving Cholesterol numbers

I posted a few weeks ago about being a little concerned that my cholesterol numbers had suddenly gone up after a year of low carb and good numbers. Here is the update: My cholesterol levels were towards the high end of 'normal' except my triglycerides when I was diagnosed with t2 diabetes. On...

    Type2, Low Carbing, Komboglyze ?

My MD just switched me over from my regular metformin and onglyza to Komboglyze. (I used to be on glyburide... nasty stuff that.) But I've been low carbing (average <120gr of carbohydrate/day ~1100C/day) now for about five months. I've lost 20lbs. I used to just count calories over on...

    Hi Everybody John here

Back in October 2017 my life was in crisis. I had constant brain fog, memory lapses several times a day, ( not sure how I continued to work ), feet hurting like hell and a thumb infection that would not go away even after 2 lots of antibiotics. I thought I had dementia so the T2 diabetes...

    Interesting chat at the gym

I was at the gym today, my usual programme of weights and cardio. A trainer who has seen me there but who is not my trainer stopped for a chat. The inevitable “what are your goals?” Question came up. I explained that I’m T1 so want to stay healthy and use exercise as part of my sugar control. He...

David Davis - "Government advice last 30 years on saturated fat rubbish"

On Good Morning Britain this morning (17th Sept 2019), the former Brexit Secretary David Davis said basically that the current advice is wrong. He has lost a shed load of weight on low carb and cited Tom Watson during the discussion. That's 3 prominent MP's now who have endorsed low carb (Tom...

Interpreting negative comments by clinicians towards Low Carb

A forum member pointed me to a speech at the International Diabetes Summit 2018 about the experience of someone with Type 2 Diabetes who eventually found success through a Low Carb diet. A quote: "They sent me on a course called DESMOND - here's what I learned, I have an incurable disease which...

Links to studies supporting Low Carb/showing calorie restriction ineffective?

Hello Folks, I recently found this item from 2014 entitled "Study: Doubling Saturated Fat in the Diet Does Not Increase Saturated Fat in Blood": https://news.osu.edu/news/2014/11/21/study-doubling-saturated-fat-in-the-diet-does-not-increase-saturated-fat-in-blood/ which discusses the...

How do you all count fiber within the context of your carbohydrate limit?

I eat a high fiber diet, and by that nature my carb content may be higher than a lot of yours. If I were to compare my diet to a popular one, I would say Mediterranean for this reason. How do you all feel about that?

    T2 and Pancreatitis

Hi Folks Recently attacked by severe pancreatitis to add to my T2 diabetes. For the former I take up to 8 Creon enzyme capsules (25,000) daily. Anyone any comments re the right kind of diet? Have been low carb GI until the attack but wonder if the damaged pancreas might affect this.

    Low carb vegan food

There’s been a few posts recently from people who follow a vegan/vegetarian way of life who were asking about combining it with low carb, so I thought I’d start a thread with some meal ideas, and the full nutritional breakdown (MyFitnessPal checked against labels for accuracy). Full disclosure -...

    Type 2 Mouth missing something

Hello. I've recently gone low-carb, and the results for me have been absolutely fantastic. However, I'm finding that I'm really struggling in the evening (post 6pm) with feeling as though I'm missing something in my mouth. I don't mean I'm hungry, I just feel as though my mouth is possibly...

    Keto diet

Hi! I'm new to posting here, been type 1 on insulin for over 20 years. I'm looking for advice. I started following a low carb diet about 1 month ago which is fantastic during the day - very few hypos. However despite repeatedly reducing my dose of background insulin and now taking NO lantus at...

How did you get here, how have things changed and where are you going?

In a bit of a reflective mood about my journey. Strikes me that although broad principles might remain the same, the management of type 2 (probably type 1 too, but I don’t know about that) is full of nuance and change and thought it would be interesting to hear from others who’ve been diagnosed...

    Sudden unexplained weight loss

Ten years on, after ten years of hba1c on the 5% bench since a few weeks after diagnosis, and excellent cho ratios, and a stable weight of 8st 7lbs (I was always one of the "not overweight people" with diabetes T2), I find in the last two weeks I have lost 5lbs and am permanently hungry. I eat...
