What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

:hilarious:
Oh well, at least it's gone now, and the proof of your crime is very well hidden!

Today was the third day of beef an onion stew, still ladled over a slice of low carb bread with mustard instead of the cauliflower purée I keep planning to make.
There is enough left for one more day, no use to make purée for only one day, so I guess I'll have to parboil the cauliflower and freeze it for another time.

Bought a large bag of cashews, wish me luck on portion control once I open it!

As a self confessed nut-a-holic I do wish you well. I don’t think I could sleep knowing there’s an opened bag of cashews in the house. They are the most more-ish of all nuts.
That stew looks magnificent.

Edit - whoops! I’ve just read your later post lol!

A longer eating window of almost 7 hours today and three meals. Felt hungry overnight and first thing which is very unusual for me. I suspect that I didn't eat enough protein yesterday so tried to improve today.
10.30 kefir then two boiled eggs with LC roll
1.30 kimchi with LC seeded crackers and two bits of cheese - a Shropshire blue and a wonderful unpasteurized comte
4.30 hm chicken curry with LC roti and mint raita ( had to buy mint as garden mint not growing again yet!) Plus lots of fresh coriander

I also had a single gin with soda water and lemon and a few berries with yoghurt. Then Had two squares of 90% chocolate with my decaffeinated black coffee. Definitely full now so hopefully won't wake up hungry as I don't usually. Maybe my new every other day weight training routine is having an impact - even though it's very basic..........

A quick query please: What are the little chocolate pots from Sainsbury's? The ones I've found on their website seem to be too "carby" (or maybe that's just my interpretation.)
These little gems. They don't cause me any problems, and are fine so long as my carbs are otherwise low. I tend to have 4 raspberries with one. View attachment 65516Screenshot_20240113_192437_Samsung%20Internet.jpg

Evening all

Today:

B: Two poached eggs and scallops, asparagus spears with butter, all seasoned with a good grinding of black pepper.
Water to swallow tablet.
Espresso.

L: Aperitif: dry tawny port.
Tuna steaks rolled in finely chopped celery and thyme, baked with red peppers and aubergines, moistened with double cream and topped with extra mature Cheddar cheese.
Steamed French beans with a knob of butter.
Water to drink.
Skipped pud.
Four squares, Montezuma's Absolute Black 100% cocoa chocolate.

D: Seafood salad made with king prawns and brown shrimps, avocado, baby plum tomatoes, tettuce, salad onions and Kalamata olives with home-made aioli for dipping, topped with roasted macadamia nuts.
Water to swallow tablets.

Tummy wasn't so good after lasts night's delivery curry. Meant I could not go to sleep when I needed, so very late night

Heading for early yoga so had small ff greek with seeds and 6 blackberries but that back fired as sparked off pains again. In the middle of yoga when we were bending forward I felt quite nauseous and sweaty. Had to sit down for a good few minutes.

Shopping. Yay 3 livlife loaves from the bigger Waitrose, now safely in the freezer.

L: celeriac mash with butter fried mushrooms. A chocolate protein pot.

Slept 2 hours in chair.

D: steak with a small salad. 2 sqs 85% and 1 full sugar truffle

Evening @Antje77 and @DJC3. LoL same here. I'd never even make it to bed!
(Husband will eat them as part of a meal, but isn't really a fan of cashew nuts, so he's no help).
Well, I did make it to the bed, and the bag wasn't even opened yet.
I had been reading in bed for at least an hour when the calling from the cashews got too loud to ignore, and I went downstairs to the freezing kitchen to silence them in the only way possible.

Spent most of the night in the mid to high 6's, higher than usual, so I'll need to take a little more insulin for it tonight. I'm a realist, not an idiot, so I know cashews will happen again tonight and they're next to my bed now. If I'm going to eat them anyway there is no need to go into the 5 °C kitchen to retrieve them, right?

Right. Enjoy your late night feast @Antje77

Saturday 13 January - bed 7.2 FBG 6.6. Shopping day for me. At least we got son's completed last night.

B. TAG with smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. Benecol dairy free.

L. Nothing.

D. Cold cuts. Roast pork leg, ox tongue, hamlet, ham, pork & apple. Coleslaw, coronation chicken.
CC little chocolate pot & 4 raspberries (I have my standing to consider!).

No gin and soda. I'm off out in 15 mins. DIL is going to watch son & his band (they are not far from home tonight), so I'm sitting with the boys. They live less than a mile from us, so I shouldn't be too late home.

That's my addiction below. They do another one with chocolate and cream (coconut cream). That's 10g of carbs, but it's also a slightly bigger pot at 60g. Screenshot_20240113_192459_Samsung%20Internet.jpg

I hope you're feeling better now xx You don't need to be ill on top of everything else.

It's American and too many adverts by Cynthia which you'll need to ignore but Id really recommend this podcast - her interview with Gary Taubes. Very thought provoking especially about value of low carb eating.
His book looks good but I really enjoy listening to Gary Taubes.

Thank you for the link. Gary Taubes' book 'The Big Fat Lie' first opened my eyes about fats.

I'm being haunted by recipes where people have said "After xx years of searching this is the best low carb version of bread..... blah blah'. As I had to make hubby a sourdough loaf, I thought I'd have a go at a couple of such recipes, one that my brother sent me, and one that came recommended on FB. The one my brother sent was a no go, but the one from FB has possibilities. The recipe was made with yeast and after spending the night in the fridge, it did taste better today, although it tastes more like a brioche. So if I make this again (and I might) I'll leave out quite a lot of the erythritol and use egg whites instead of whole eggs). But why have a yeast recipe and use eggs? It seems strange to me.

Yesterday's food was a couple of tasters of the so called bread above.

Dinner was Boursin Garlic and Herb cheese with salted celery.

Also had 3 coffees made with cream throughout the day.

Today's food was more or less the same (presently hubby appears to have lost his appetite again which has left me with that 'can't be bothered' feeling about dinner.)

Throughout the day I ate 150g of the yeast low carb bread I made (8.7g of carbs) with thick layer of butter on the slices.

Dinner was the same as yesterday, I finished off the packet of Boursin cheese with sliced celery.

Had a treat of a couple of chunks of Blue Dragon Coconut Cream - it comes in a block and tastes like it's loaded with carbs, but it's only 1g carbs in a 50g chunk.

That’s brilliant logic. Enjoy your midnight feast.
I bought 1.25 kg nuts today - not cashews but almonds Brazils and walnuts. I’m telling myself I’ll portion out 25g of mixed nuts a day. We’ll see….
