What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Hello all.

Tuesday ...

Breakfast: Two double decaffeinated espressos with cream and xylitol.

Lunch: One scrambled egg and 100g of hummus with olive oil and homemade low-carb flatbreat. Half a low carb roll with butter and beef salami. Two small pieces of Sacher torte. Surprised to see I was still hungry after all this. Decided to have four squares of 85% chocolate, which did the trick.

Dinner: One low carb roll with mayonnaise, low-carb ketchup and tinned tuna. Very filling. Half a glass of red wine.

Only did half an hour of exercise (the last nine days, I was on the elliptical trainer for an hour each day). Happy to report that blood sugar levels were the same even with less exercise. Hope it stays this way.

Hello all.

Wednesday ...

Breakfast: Two double decaffeinated espressos with cream and xylitol. Half a low-carb roll with butter and beef salami. A small piece of low-carb Sacher torte.

Lunch: Nothing.

Snack: Four squares of 85% chocolate, one more double decaffeinated espresso and one more small piece of Sacher torte.

Dinner: Roasted eggplant, zucchini, mushrooms, bellpepper and fennel, low carb pumpkin gnocchi, some lamb.

Later: A glass of red wine after one hour on the elliptical trainer as my blood sugars refused to drop to a more comfortable level. It worked (5.6 before and 4.8 after).

According to Libre my body also decided that a 3.15am liver dump and a rise of over 2mmol was called for!, Since getting up my sugars have been ok and odays BS graph has been pretty flat (as normal),but at the high end of my target range, despite my carb intake being v low across the day, which Im taking as showing a hangover from yesterdays experiment.

Mine always shows a BG drop at around 3am. I've had a few reds at 3.2/3.4 but I'm usually slightly higher.
I do find that if I've been having a bit too much of something e.g. alcohol over Christmas and New Year then it takes a few days to settle again. I've been having DP issues again but it is starting to stabilise again. I'm back to just having my drink on a Sunday and being back at the gym makes a difference too.

Catch up again - Bed on Tuesday 6.4 FBG 6.7. DP got me to 8.2 before descending.
B. Got a load of Tescos GF pork cocktail sausages so 6 of them, 2 rashers turkey bacon, fried egg , 1/2 tomato and leftover mushrooms. Tassimo Americano grande with a dash of cream.
L. Nothing
D. Veal escalope, mushrooms, spinach and parsnip.
Strawberry chia pudding with 3 strawberries.

Today - Thursday
Bed 5.8 FBG 6.4 although DP still got me to 8.2.
B. Tassimo Americano grande with a dash of cream.
L. Another 6 of the Tesco pork cocktail sausages, 2 turkey rashers, 1/2 tomato and a fried egg. Black coffee
D. I have a chicken that will be Instant Potted then finished off with roasted veg as I have veg needing used - leeks, turnip, onion, carrot, broccoli , cauliflower.

Aqua tomorrow and although the boys are not back to swimming lessons until next week I've said I'll take them swimming on Saturday morning. Getting them into and out of the pool is a workout in itself!

Did anyone see Tom Kerridge's program on BBC last night? Interesting recipes although not all low carb they could be adapted easily. I suspect this was his low calorie book rather than the dopamine diet.

Cheers - its fascinating to be able to see the patterns and the unexpected way things affect BG
The effect of Tuesdays little experiment appears to have now gone the other way! Went to bed on a 6 .4 last night, sugars fairly quickly went down to a 4 .3 ( hadnt seen one of those for a long while), gently pootled about in the 4’s and 5’s all night returning to a very satisfying 4.4 when I woke up. Similarly today has been spent in the 4-6 range all day.
So either my pancreas has been given a good kick up the bum by Tuesdays experiment, or its all completely unrelated and its just D messing with my head!,I initially wondered if it was a fault with the Libre but finger prick readings taken to test that theory have all come out within 0.1-0.2 mmol of the Libre reading

Hi all fasting day today until dinner. Did a chilli with a side of guacamole lovely. Had coffee with cream and my regular treat of 2 100% cocoa chocolate buttons from hotel chocolate I love them and often have with my after dinner coffee 2 are 0.4 grams of carb Looking forward to tomorrow’s non fasting day and also hoping for a good Friday weighin fingers crossed! After my second fasting day in the week - I tend to do Tuesday and Thursday when practical - I usually see a one pound or more loss although weight loss is starting to slow as my bmi is now normal.......

Hello all.

Thursday ...

Breakfast: Two double decaffeinated espressos with cream and xylitol. Scrambled eggs with fennel and mushrooms, 150g of full-fat Greek yoghurt.

Lunch: A small piece of low-carb Sacher torte.

Dinner: Met a friend at our favorite tapas place for one and a half glasses of rioja, about 100g of manchego cheese and a small plate of fried sardines.

Later at home: Some roasted vegetables (eggplant, zucchini, fennel, bellpepper and mushrooms), about 70g of homemade low-carb pumpkin, sage and lupin flour gnocchi with cheese, more cheese and beef salami on the side, another small piece of Sacher torte.

Didn't exercise at all yesterday (some type of experiment) and was a bit scared to see my blood sugars this morning, but they were fine -- just a tiny bit higher. Back to exercising today.

Ended up doing leg of lamb yesterday, instead of the chicken, and tonight will be pork ribs, pressure cooked first, then rubbed with paprika, chilli, garlic, cayenne, liquid smoke and onion powder, a smear of tomato sauce and into the oven to finish. I will be left with lots of bones for a broth.

Breakfast was bacon and egg again, but I really didn't need it. Just keeping Mr B company before he set off for work.

Well today’s dinner has been a revelation - well I hope so I’ll edit this In a couple of hours to add my blood sugar,! Someone put a thread on about bean pasta being on offer in Tesco although I found it on offer in Sainsbury’s at s@me price 2 quid for a 200g pack- it’s an explore cuisine high protein, high fibre organic edamame and mung bean fettuccine which is 5 grams of carb if you stick to 40grammes which was a good sized portion. I did a carbonara sauce to go with and have a happy husband as did him some standard pasta which he’s really been missing so we could both have carbonara sauce and have to say it was delicious I couldn’t tell the difference with the rich creamy sauce and Parmesan it just tasted like tagiatelle. I feel like I’ve been very naughty as no pasta for 4 months now and it was one of my fave carbs comfort meals. Will let you know ........... I may have bean pasta to give away if it spikes me it feels like it should! Thank you to the member who posted the thread about this bean pasta.
Edited pre dinner 5.6 and 2 hours later 4.9! Opened new pack of strips for 2nd test but clearly no spike pasta back in menu albeit the bean variety love it......

To update my pasta bean experiment wow did a pre meal bg test which was 5.6 and then two hours after my bean pasta carbonara it’s 4.9! I did open a new box of strips so may be a reason but certainly didn’t spike. Bean pasta now on my menu yum yum....☀️ Sorry added this to previous days post in my excitement!

Can't believe I'm fighting another cold! First Defence out again but I'm going swimming tomorrow as the pool is nice and steamy. Bed 6.7 FBG 6.1.
B. Another 6 of these Tesco GF pork cocktail sausages, 2 turkey rashers, 1 fried egg, 1 tomato and 1 mushroom.
L. Tassimo Americano grande with a dash of cream.
D. Leftovers. Took the remaining roasted veg from yesterday, stripped the chicken leg and wing, added some mushrooms and Oomi noodles and stir fried with some Tamari soy.
Worked out a Diet Doctor keto meal plan for next week and got the shopping today. Got some cabbage to look forward to but nothing like the cabbagegate of week 1 of the low carb challenge. @Brunneria and @Chook will remember cabbagegate well. It was weeks before I could face cabbage again!
