What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Lovely day today out and about enjoying the lovely sunshine. As a treat we went to our favourite tea rooms, haven’t been since diagnosis so it was with mixed feelings that I took a seat. This place does the most amazing cream teas, however, before you all shreak at me, I didn’t have one, I had the all day breakfast minus the beans and gave the fried bread to my other half. I did give in to half a slice of granary toast but spread it with lots of butter. Tested before first bite, although a little higher than I like to see I hadn’t eaten earlier so wasn’t too hard on myself, 6.1 then 2 hrs after only risen to 6.5
BG back to low 5’s by this evening which is where I’m happier seeing them and I’ve had a mixed salad with some bacon followed by some strawberries and cream.
I confess that I have bought home a scone, they had a new variety, all my favourites, chocolate, coffee and walnuts, I am going to cut it into quarters and spread with cream, fingers crossed it doesn’t cause a massive high, if it does then the bin will benefit!
Great @jayney27 that you’ve enjoyed your day we need to remember at times to have fun- pleased you did . As long as in the course of a period of time we keep our bgs generally stable a few treats are probably not that material - good for you.

I agree @shelley262 and as my partner sometimes says to me, “you are so controlled and careful, and what you are doing is forever so an occasional treat day shouldn’t be denied” I think I sometimes forget this but he’s right, this controlled and careful consideration regarding what I can eat isn’t like a quick fix diet, and a treat now and then should be enjoyable and nothing to have a guilt trip over.
 
Warm here today but none of the storms which have hit others. They seem to have skirted us so I may need to water later. Today's menu was as much about using what my wife made yesterday plus some of the large quantity of eggs and asparagus.

B: 1 pint water; 2 pint mugs tea with almond milk
MMS: Mug filter coffee with double cream; Keto cheese twists; Keto Focaccia
L: 3 egg Asparagus omlette; (homegrown asparagus , own chickens eggs); Mushrooms; 2 X pint mugs Assam tea with almond milk
MAS: None
D Mackerel salad ( little gem; cherry tomatoes; radish; cucumber; spring onions); Pea shoots; Cider vinegar vinaigrette; with chia seeds and psyllium husk powder; Keto Focaccia

Having some weird blood sugars today. Started off at 5.7 which was fine but after lunch went up to 6.8 despite only having 6g carbs. Don't know if it's just the heat today or dehydration or what, but that was a shock.

L: Low carb bagel with turkey, Leerdammer and bacon
D: 4 chipolata sausages, 2 eggs
Snacks: 2 squares 90% Lindt, Adonis blonde
Cadbury's Highlight mocha
 
Bed 7.5 FBG 7.4 but drifting back into the 5's during the day and no DP today. Still sore but the throat is improving. Seems to be loads round about going down with the lurgy. No 1 grandson succumbed now.
B. Slice GF black pudding , 2 rashers back bacon and a fried egg which turned out to be a double yolker.
L. Tassimo Americano grande with a dash of cream.
D. Slice each roast pork, chicken, ham, lettuce , 4 Santini tomatoes, bit German smoked cheese, 3 walnuts, 1/2 avocado and a spoon of coleslaw.
Settling to the Pat Phelan week with a scoop of halo top and 6 raspberries.

Bgs can be really odd at times mine were all over place when had ear infection and stress also has a big impact for me as you say it may be heat and dehydration sure it will resolve as you are eating right stuff - big hug coming your way meanwhile hope it helps

Lunch at Wetherspoons with my son: gammon, eggs, tomato, mushroom, peas and a side salad.
Mid-afternoon: cookies and cream phd bar and black coffee.
Dinner: chicken supreme with mixed veg followed by ‘Bakewell’ cake, raspberry chia jam and cream.

I always choose gammon when go to Wetherspoons when checked nutrition facts it looked like best bet but I missed off the peas and tomato as they can push up my bgs. When went with mum and asked for no peas or Chips or tomato it turned up with two pieces of gammon they clearly didn’t like to send out a half empty plate!

I’m ok with peas and tomato luckily. I got two pieces of gammon too! I gave one to my son as too much protein tends to push my sugars up later or the next day, so far ok this evening, fingers crossed for a good fasting sugar tomorrow as I’ve had chicken aswell for tea!
 
Breakfast: 60g oatmeal, 28g almonds, 35g protein powder and 1tbsp cinnamon.

Snack: 140g blueberries, 130g banana, 35g protein powder, 20oz water.

Lunch: 35g whole grain rice, 85g green peas, 3/4 cup egg whites, and 5ml turmeric.

Pre dinner: 135g sweet potatoe, 1/4 package of tofu, 85g green beans.

Dinner tonight: 1 can of red kidney beans, 1 can of tuna, and hot peppers.

Snack tonight: 1/2-1cup of cottage cheese.

Ian - If you do your own mackerel, I'm sure the sous vide, plus a bit of blow torch or heat gun on the skin, would work well.

One of my fist sous vide cooks, of salmon, was beautiful.

Tonight I did haddock sous vide. Whilst incredibly moist, it could have done with much less time, as it had ended up softer than I care for. Very tasty though.

Thanks for that. Salmon is my Friday meal of choice and I was going to use the sous vide so that has confirmed my plan.
 
Hard to keep the routine up when away from home - had a ‘discussion’ with No 1 daughter tonight about my evangelising re lchf. Also she doesn’t think I eat enough! I regularly tip 3,000cals/ day so no idea why she thinks that. I know her concern comes from a good place so trying hard to go with the flow a bit.

B: scrambled eggs, smoked salmon and avocado

L: slice of turkey breast, rocket, mayo some celery with guacamole and a couple of lumps of cheddar

D: takeaway curry, chicken tikka starter portion, saag paneer and a spoonful of mushroom bhaji

@DJC3 I feel your concern having recently been through a comparable situation. Being "Clan Chief" I get no discussion or dissent but this is what prompted me to opine that I either take most of my own supplies or stay home.
On a happier but very related note we have been working on our chocolate skills toady. Having a 2.5kg bag of 100% to play with this was always the plan. Toffee high fibre bars made and problems with the chocolate consistency led to a brilliant soluition. We made some very tasty milk chocolate like bars. The hard 100% choc mass and erithrytol disaster from yesterday was mixed with heated cream and almond milk and pulverised in the nutribullet. We now have some amazing bars setting in the fridge along with some in moulds as precursors of Easter Eggs and Christmas! (Idea is to refine these so I feel happier giving to grandchildren) 1kg of inulin coming today. Also dehydrating raspberries to go in high fibre bars - didn't know till we started that these are pigs to dehydrate - takes up to 15+ hrs!
Today started badly hence no posting in fasting bg threads but the chocolate recovery/discovery has cheered me up - people can now talk to me without fear of serious injury!:angelic:
 
Breakfast: 2 black decaf coffees : I don't do breakfast
Lunch: 3 eggs scrambled in butter with a handful of spinach and thee cubes of crumbled feta cheese. A cup of decaf earl grey.
Dinner: salmon fillet spread with green olive tapenade and topped with Parma ham, baked and served with buttered steamed green veggies. Mint tea.
