There was no list and no plan - there never is. That's how I ended up married with kids:arghh:

Lack of planning is good, if you had had a plan you might not have had your children and grandchildren and lovely wife :)

Bit of a curate's egg day for you and your mum - thought about a hug but gave a winner for the good news re hbaca1.
On a very serious point, anyone of you good people able to link me to vegan low carb recipes that have carbs worked out for me please. Not a full on diet change but seems to be an idea whose time has come.
@shelley262 and @jayney27 , I just googled hbaca1 and got thumbnail images of you 2
I just googled too and yes @shelley262 popped up, then I saw myself and several other forum members, seemed to me that searching hba1c links straight into diabetes.co.uk website

Aww but none of them include your lovely family I’m sure :)
I think the punchlines to that quote go:
Yes, there were times, I'm sure you knew
When I bit off more than I could chew
But through it all, when there was doubt
I ate it up and spit it out
I faced it all and I stood tall
And did it my way
I've loved, I've laughed and cried
I've had my fill, my share of losing
And now, as tears subside
I find it all, all so amusing
To think I did all that
And may I say, not in a shy way
Oh no, no, not me
I did it my way
For what is man, what has he got?
If not himself, then he has naught
To say the things he truly feels
And not the words of one who kneels
The record shows I took the blows
And did it my way
And did it my way

So no

Evening all.

Congratulations @Kingmidas on your weight loss so far but sorry to hear about your mum.

No more apprentice spoilers @DJC3 and @maglil55 I have at least 4 episodes to catch up on!

Today’s menu includes a spectacular failure at dinner.

Lunch was smoked salmon and M&S whipped creamy cheese.

Dinner was a first attempt at a recipe posted on a carnivore Facebook group I’m a member of. Chicken wings coated in butter and a mix of paprika, salt and pepper. Who would have thought something so simple could go,spectacularly wrong. Way too much salt, way too much pepper. Ate a couple before binning the lot. Mouth is still in recovery. Have to head to Pilates shortly so no time to prepare anything else so have eaten a pack of salami and smoked cheese, but didn’t enjoy that either. Vile taste in mouth!

Oh no, so sorry about Apprentice spoilers. I remember you saying you were stuck on the train now. We will keep it zipped from now on.

Shame about your dinner. I’ve done that before though and wondered how a group of ingredients, all lovely on their own, could turn into such a disaster because of the way they were put together.

Mum or MIL issues time it seems, Julie, @shelley262 and @Kingmidas. Julie's mum has got though knee replacement - she had epidural due to AF and phoned to say she is in a private ward while the swabs for MRSA are analysed. My plan was to distract Julie by going out to Cambridge for the day, collecting my things from Decathlon and Orange Pekoe tea from my uncle. Plan turned into something akin to a distraction burglary the highlight being the purchase of an oak dining table for 10 and 8 leather chairs (I.m keeping the 2 carvers). Along the way huge quantities of clothes for the girls, a 15 tog duvet and a gorgeous leather coat for me. Some plan that was:arghh:
Breakfast: - Tea - standard issue 3 pints
Dockey : Filter coffee and cream
Lunch : Patisserie Valerie breakfast minus bread and beans plus salmon - cumberland sausage bit sus, poached eggs quite good; almond milk flat white; tea with almond milk
Mid Afternoon: Costa Americano with soya milk and s/f caramel syrup for the car on way home
Evening meal: 5 M and S chorizo and diabolo cheddar rolitos (10 in a pack may be more later); water
Worst part is we went nowhere near John Lewis or the more upmarket shops so part 2 may be a nightmare:arghh::arghh:

Gosh your shopping spree puts my jumper buying in the shade!
Hope MIL recovers quickly.

Brilliant HbA1c result for your mum @shelley262 No wonder she’s tickled pink.

@ianpspurs if you go vegan what will you do with all those fabulous chicken’s eggs? Sorry Ive no idea about links to recipes though.

Today I’ve continued the IF I started yesterday and only had dinner ( so 30hr fast) - salmon with a pesto/ parmesan/ sour cream crust served with wilted spinach. And a handful of pecans while cooking.

Drank a lot of tea with almond milk, a couple of coffees with cream and as I haven’t got bone broth I had bovril at lunchtime - then checked and saw it was 13g carb per 100g. Rookie error.

Have been trying to cook/ freeze some of the weeks supplies of food that I’d already bought - hard when I was hungry all day. I can’t say I’ve found it easy.

Julie has gone to see MIL tonight. Surgeon said this will take much longer than hips - problem will be stopping her from going home alone too soon. Thanks on her behalf. The veganism is part of a flexitarian plan not the whole 9 yards. Besides, the dogs have 4 eggs per day.
Shopping spree? We have done much worse and I fear for the trip into the more exclusive parts - Julie wants to build a teddy bear for each of the girls and "wander around" John Lewis. All the shops I like are also in that part of the city .
@DJC3, bone broth is one thing the IP does really well - along with veg stock paste.

On my most recent trip to the butcher I asked for bones for stock. I was presented with a huge bag, and I mean HUGE bag. I made some broth overnight on Monday night (in the IP) and had some today, at lunchtime, just to tide me over to an early Thursday dinner.

When I made the broth, I needed to reduce it to save on space. Today when I had the first portion I cut the jelly into solid cube - just like old fashioned fruit jelly? I've now frozen those cube which each should make c500ml stock. I'm happy with that.

@shelley262 great HbA1c reduction for your mum. A tribute to your influence. Sorry to hear about the glaucoma - that runs in my family and it’s no fun.

I have made bone broth in the IP and agree it’s good but in this bland part of suburbia I can’t get bones. The Cornish butcher gives me them free.

I took a trip to Waitrose in the rain today and bought some of their beef stock in a carton from the chiller, but it was horrible to drink on its own and I chucked it away, what a waste.

I’m looking forward to going back down to Cornwall next week where we have a proper butcher. They are just shops that sell meat here - dont actually do any butchery.
Reducing it to such a concentrate is a good idea.

ACV and seasoning is the key. Morrisons meaty bones are really good - butchers here wouldn't "give" you the time of day never mind free bones - you must buy them at butchers round here.

Do you chaps on the Fenns eat Indian foods at all? I do this as the basis for all sorts of yummmmmtastic stuff: https://joshicooks.com/onion-tomato-masala/

The aromas when the cook is finished is utterly fabulous.

Hello all.

Had a bit of a busy spell at work and haven't been posting. Can't believe it's been more than a week. Took me almost half of the day to catch up.

@shelley262 -- Congrats on the fabulous results on your HbA1c. Brillianly done and well deserved. Great results for your mum, too. Sorry about the glaucoma.

@DJC3 -- Hope fasting will help your blood sugar levels. Please have a big hug from me.

Today ...

Breakfast: Two double decaffeinated espressos with cream and erythritol.

Lunch: A DD keto roll with butter, French soft cheese and beef salami. A small piece of homemade low-carb carrot cake.

Dinner: Lamb's lettuce with Caesar's dressing and parmesan. A medium-sized bowl of homemade soup.

About two glasses of wine throughout the day.

Missed a few days too - mainly due to being frustrated and furious with a very temperamental keyboard which refuses to acknowledge that most words do actually contain at least one vowel so I end up doing masses of editing... :banghead: Some chocolate marzipan has been involved in aiding this extra keyboard work.

However, yesterday, breakfast was hazelnut decaf coffee with double cream and truvia

Lunch: feta with black olives, cherry tomatoes, basil and a bit of olive oil, followed by my last remaining golden and very ripe kiwi fruit, and a mug of turmeric tea.

Dinner: partridge breast stir fried with a little garlic, mixed mushrooms, and baby leeks with a little lemon juice & sour cream; and @Brunneria :playful: - with a very tastefully muted brown and pale green and quite accidentally colour co-ordinating pud of mint choc peppermint swirl Oppo ice cream; followed by also matching mint tea.

(Felt really dehydrated yesterday, and was sipping lime or lemon flavoured water all day - for some reason at the moment I'm struggling to get a decent drink of water inside me...)
