What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Good morning!!

I've finally gotten over the trauma of the throat swab! Just waiting for the result now. I don't think I've got it but I'm keeping my fingers crossed anyway. I actually think I had it very mildly just as lockdown started.

BGs are finally starting to come down a little bit. I spent most of yesterday in the 8s with pre-dinner test in the 7s but my FBG this morning was still up in the 9s. Thankfully no more 14s and 15s!!!! :arghh:

@Rachox - take care on those stairs x
@Goonergal - what is teaolat? I'm sleeping better as well and I'm sure its the weather - the vivid dreams I get in hot weather have also stopped.
@Antje77 - your food pictures always look so yummy. What do you put in your peanut sauce?

Breakfast: usual plain omelette with carb free syrup (banana flavour)
Lunch: couple of boiled eggs, cottage cheese, a spoonful of coleslaw and some home grown lettuce, tomato and radishes
Dinner: cauliflower rice cooked with fresh lime juice, garlic, smoked paprika and chipotle with the following mixed in: diced grilled halloumi, green and black olives, chargrilled baby courgettes (from the garden), diced tomato (from the greenhouse) and chargrilled aubergine and peppers from Lidl. This will be eaten hot today and cold on Thursday.

Thank you!
Wish I knew exactly, I must have done something different than usual because it tasted so good but what?
What goes in for sure: some onion, garlic, ginger, a red chilli pepper, peanut butter, milk, soy sauce, a little kecap (sweet soy sauce).
What also might go in: turmeric, nutmeg, cumin, powdered ginger, powdered cloves, Indonesian hot sauce (sambal badjak or sambal kecap, or both), a bit of black bean/garlic paste, lemon juice.

Hi All
@Rachox glad your surgery is over and hope you can get around ok at home without pain. @DJC3 I am in exactly the same position sticking 6 or above all day. Big kudos for attempting the fast.
Today has my usual breakfast of slice HiLo toast, butter, tea.
Lunch was two boiled eggs mashed with mayo.
Supper already made with be a chicken and med veg casserole.
I am trying to stay under 20g carbs and hoping for an improvement.

Lost track of days... again
Lunches : bits of cheese, olives and salad followed by yoghurt and seeds
D, last night was ready cooked chicken thighs reheated (was surprisingly good) with broccoli, caulifower and green beans. Used a drizzle of a house salad dressing from lidl as a sauce. Not strictly good as had sunflower oil and a bit of sugar in, but only had less than a tablespoonful so it can't be that dangerous right?
2 squares 85% to follow but resisted wine that has been creeping in as a habit (well we are on holiday)

Hoping foot is healing @Rachox
Looking forward to reading about your holiday walks @Goonergal

BG at midnight last night - 6.5. FBG 9.8 - that was at 6.30. I didn't bother checking again.

Breakfast at 10.30 was a chaffle-bacon sandwich.

Just (3/4 hour ago) had my second meal of the day - reheated chicken thighs with some veg, done in my mother's "air fryer" - just to see how it works. It's a lot better than the air fryer I've packed away. But it is big. A couple of inches extra in diameter and about 6 inches higher overall. Not sure I have space for it. The chicken skin was very crisp and tasty.

Trying not to eat anything else until about 10.30 tomorrow, but I'm wondering what to do about my second Metformin of the day - it's a bit close to the first one to have it just yet and it should be taken after food.

It’s tea produced by Hotel Chocolat. Just black tea with cocoa. No calories and just a hint of chocolate flavour.

Glad you’re sleeping better. Makes such a difference.

Virtual hugs to everyone who needs them at the moment for one reason or another.

@Goonergal Dinner tonight looks good - can I come to your house

@DJC3 30 hour fast - have you done it before and how did you find it - I did OMAD today but was starting to get really hungry before my dinner

OMAD today (was not previously planned just happened that way) as I didn't feel very hungry when I get up today (not like me)

AM - just large mug of earl grey tea and double cream. Water which I usually drink throughout the day anyway.

Dinner @ 4pm (24 hours since I last ate) - Salmon with cheese and chive sauce drizzled over the top and large egg mayo salad. SF jelly and exra thick double cream. Cup of earl grey and double cream.

Mmm, thank you that's got me thinking. I don't much care for tea, so I wondered if cocoa can be added to coffee. Google tells me it can, with the cocoa being added to ground coffee beans before the water. Apparently it's good for us https://www.peoplespharmacy.com/articles/why-should-you-put-cocoa-in-your-coffee

Today's food:

Breakfast: streaky rashers, 2 fried eggs, and fried mushrooms - 4.2g of carbs
Lunch: a chunk of Cheddar and Red Leicester - 0.3g carbs
Dinner: Coronation chicken with salad - 5.8g carbs
Total carbs for the day so far: 11.3g

Evening all. Missed breakfast as I was out and about but bg had climbed to 7.5 by mid morning so early lunch (11:30) was LoDough topped with cream cheese, smoked salmon and a sliced hard boiled egg. Then about 30g Montezuma’s Absolute black with Almonds.
Don’t intend to have anything else until tomorrow dinner time ( bg still high frustratingly)
Mrs T 123 I have done a week of 30hr fasts once before a while ago and I can’t pretend it was fun but it did help to bring bg back into line. Don’t know what else to do tbh as I’ve no idea why it’s all going a bit pear shaped!

I have the same problem these days with my weight - although over a year ago it just fell off me with eating a lot more than I do now (3 meals a day whereas since lockdown - 5 months now I have only had 2 a day) and I remember getting to a point where I didn't want to lose any more - I only want to lose half a stone to get back to where I was but it ain't happening - that's my reason for doing the OMAD's - I feel your pain - these things are sent to try us

Hugs to all who need them and pleased to hear about improvements in sleep.
@Goonergal hope your hols are great - bet lots of walking on the agenda - enjoy.
@DJC3 sounds like you are really trying hard to address your bgs? It’s so hard often to get the balance right. Have you also looked at exercise and more stress management ? Since I increased mine over past month I’ve had a significant shift down in bgs - think it’s a mix of stress relief from exercise (rhythmic swimming twice a week seems to help me deal with my stress and the resistance exercises I’m doing also seem to be helpful) I’ve also upped my mindfulness but tend to do the walking ones which are again more rhythmic and, for me, calming. Good luck hope your plans work we’ve all had a few very unsettling months!
@Rachox hope you’ve had a restful recovery day.
Swim and stretching instead of breakfast
Lunch ham and cheese omelette
Dinner pesto chicken with salads made from garden produce plus an avocado! Pudding DGF bakewell with a few berries from garden and spoon of yoghurt and cream. Also had dry white wine with soda and a decaff coffee with bit of montezumas 100% with mint oil.

Thanks for asking after me @shelley262 . I had a reasonable night’s sleep. Keeping up with the painkillers, resting and blood sugars returning to normal after a high of 7 yesterday evening.
Food today:
Breakfast: my usual low carb coconut ‘porridge’ with strawberries and cream washed down with a black coffee
Late morning: black coffee and raspberry phd.
Late Lunch: pork scratchings followed by Greek yoghurt, and LC chocolate granola.
Dinner: ribs and roasted Mediterranean veggies followed by DGF lemon and blueberry cake, cream LC vanilla and raspberry granola.

I agree it’s as if our bodies are constantly trying to reset at a higher level, whether weight or bg, than we are hoping to attain. Like you I was eating a lot more a couple of years ago but I don’t remember having this much of a problem with bg then. It’s a constant battle isn’t it?

I’ve been thinking about the exercise angle too. I do have a couple of good walks a day with Dennis but although they are hilly we don’t go fast as he spends most of the time sniffing in the hedgerows! During lockdown I was doing the Joe Wicks PE every morning too. I’m not doing anything like that now and I think you’re right about the resistance exercise. I need to get back on the exercise thread here!
Rhythmic swimming sounds so peaceful and therapeutic.

Yes, it's also known as Mocha, and I was introduced to it about 40 years ago by a Jewish student we had working with us. I now often make a slight mock version with decaff, cocoa and cream for my breakfast.:hungry:

Brunch - 2 boiled eggs mashed up in a cup with butter. cup of earl grey with double cream.

Dinner - 2 beefburgers with a small covering of diane sauce over the top and large salad. Also some mixed nuts while I was waiting on the burgers cooking.

Rainy day today - *sigh*
Joy! Mashed eggs & butter! What I call nursery food. I love it. A little mayo is nice in it too and salt.

I’ve worked out a routine that I can do regularly at home with some HIT included on our exercise bike, plus exercises using resistance bands and Pilates. I’m doing majority of mornings as wake up to make it a new habit. I have one or two rest mornings when can’t do because of caring or work etc. The swimming is more of a treat twice a week.

@Antje77 "sleepover dogs" what a dear image! Time for a good old rocket box for the chocolate. Bearproof Army surplus ammunition box lol.
@MrsA2 you are allowed to lose track of days on holiday! I keep losing track just because I'm home all the time!
@shelley262 congrats on your "breakfast"!
@Rachox glad you got at least some sleep and lots'o'rest! Have you tried icing your feet?
@DJC3 PLEASE come back to the exercise thread! It's getting boring-- walk, barre, barre, walk....

Bfast same old same old. Avocado, pecans/avo oil (whizzed thoroughly to accommodate the sore jaw, scrambled eggs, flax crisps/dilute soymilk
Much phone time with insurance and mortgage companies getting a property covered
Snack before barre class of plain skyr with olive oil-- a known good flavor
Barre class in which my muscles started shaking before 5 minutes were out
Supper sitting out on the patio watching the hummingbirds fight around the feeder; same as bfast but a boiled egg test which my jaw passed, and spinach instead of avocado.
It's been a really pretty day-- not hot at all, mostly sunny, bearable humidity. Back to summer and rain tomorrow they do say.
