Sunday 26 March - bed 6.2 FBG 6.4. @PenguinMum - he wasn't wrong. There's nothing to beat super fresh fish done very simply. The "hut" I was referring to that one of the Fat Ladies shopped at (she lived up the hill from us) is one of these places that you have to see what's been landed. They are very well stocked, though. Filleting is done there and then.

B. TAG and a bit crustless quiche.

L. At swimming lessons with the youngest, then shopping with son. Even on his birthday shopping is necessary! On return, a SRSLY egg and tomato sandwich.

D. Chicken breast in a whisky sauce, broccoli, carrot & turnip mash, and a GF haggis bonbon (that had a wee touch of Drambuie in it) CC little chocolate pot. Usual campari and soda.

Last week before school holidays starts tomorrow!View attachment 60043
Happy birthday (belated) Maglil's son.

Hello Everyone. New here. Not diabetic but feel 'odd' sosure I'm pre-diabetic. Recently had a NHS MOT: nothing mentioned about blood sugars but Im not sotting on my laurels tbh as I had to chase my surgery up about the results. Prescribed Statins tho = what a surprise! 63 and the only Prescribed meds I take...i ain't don't too bad I suppose.
So...rather than sit back stuffing my menopausal face, I've decided that me and my ol man will go low carb to try and ward off this awful disease. We did brilliantly last year, cut right back on carbs and sweet rubbish (=son's Wedding!).
Have to say I've read a little of what others are eating here and we were definitely on the right path...just need to get our ars.., no heads in gear to get back on track!
Be good to check in on this forum to get a bit of inspiration, because after a depressingly long, horrible Winter, we're desperate for our mood to lift. Had a glimpse of spring and it makes the world of difference to our general mood and motivation....and willpower to start back on our low carb way of life. Wish me/us luck and thanks for meal ideas.

I have eaten dates in recent months - not many but usually for experimental reasons (developing recipes). I didn't find deglet dates too bad but medjool dates are an absolute disaster for my BG. Actually, not keen on medjools; they really are too sweet for comfort.
Ah yes, thank you. I think the ones were deglet here, I can get away with 2 of them but I’d rather have something else I think and not have to “get away” with anything.

Breakfast: bacon and eggs - back to what I know. BG a tiny bit up this morning at 8.5. Took 8 units of insulin, bearing in mind yesterday's experiment with no insulin. BG now (90 minutes later) is 5.2.

2nd meal: last of the N African stew with some extra meat and vegetables to bulk it up a bit. There is still a portion of meatballs in sauce in the freezer. I might get that out and put the 2 together.

I'm just taking a rest from making some Bolognese style ragout (just have the onions and garlic chopped and the meat ready to go. Couldn't get fresh Basil so have to use dried and no oregano in any form available, but it will taste fine, I'm sure). With it I will make a courgetti bake and also a standard pasta bake. I have an old friend coming for lunch one day this week and will give her the choice. If she doesn't want the pasta version, Alistair will take it. It will be fine in the fridge until required.

Em turned up very early this morning. Her mum has decided just to put up with her back pain and go back to work - heavily drugged. Her shift started at 7 am so Em arrived about quarter to; washed and dressed but needing her hair brushed and wanting some breakfast - tea and a crumpet. Just as well I was up and dressed in good time. I always tell her to have a good day at school when she goes out and she always assures me that she will - and she means it. I never felt that optimistic when I went to school. Hated it, in fact.

I was diagnosed after saying to my GP that I'd noticed certain foods were having an effect on me in an unusual way. It was only after diagnosis that they told me they had first noticed the rise in BGs 6 months prior to that. They'd ignored it as it "could" have been because I'd had something to eat. The thing that made me notice it was white bread, which I used for toast in the morning. I was shocked to find out just how much sugar was lurking in white bread. Welcome, by the way. It's a constant learning process, but we all have our own way.

Hi All back to yesterday. Usual brekkie of slice LC toast and copious tea.
Lunch was finger of farmhouse cheese with chopped salad, spoon coleslaw.
Supper two plant burgers topped with two portobello mushrooms all baked in oven.
today same brekkie. Just had early lunch of two h/b eggs with chopped salad and mayo, spoon coleslaw. Off now for eye injection, no 17, so supper is cottage pie mine topped with mashed swede, easy for Mr PM to just slide into the oven later.

Had a phone call from a diabetes nurse this morning. It seems I've got it all wrong. BG should be between 7 and 9 for someone my age. Carbs won't do me any harm. Bacon will damage my heart and kidneys. High fat will damage my liver. Too much cheese isn't good, especially now that I'm not on statins. Start making wholemeal bread again and include it in my diet.

One piece of advice I will take is to reduce the basal insulin dose and see where that takes me.

There isn't a rollyoureyes emoticon, or I'd give you that. It beggars belief that these "experts" are so far off expertise.

Kudos to you that you have done your research and know what's what.

The term "big boned" lol repeatedly told this growing up!
Breakfast - couple of corned beef slices 2 cups of tea
Lunch - chicken breast
Snack - couple of tea spoons of Sainsburys guacamole, going to see if it spikes in a few hours. Had red onion and jalapenos in, it may spike as I am only okay with dried onion - we will see!
If it doesn't spike it will be nice with air fried courgette slices!!

Trouble is - I don't really know. I'm flying by the seat of my pants here. For every expert who advocates low carb, there is another who advocates low fat, low protein, high veg, moderate carb, because you have a long term illness which is actually a death sentence, if something else, related to your condition, doesn't get you first. The one offers hope, the other offers a long slow death.

I have chosen to hope.

So far today it's been salami and pastrami, with fresh coffee and cream. Couldn't be bothered doing my usual egg and bacon today!
Are you able to find a salami with no sugar? So can’t seem to find one is it ok to eat some of the ones that have a very small amount of sugar??

I wish you well! My left eye is still bloodshot from the pre-op eye injections. I'd like to say "you get used to it". I'd like to but I can't.

I think results speak for themselves @Annb. For the first time in a very long time, you are getting really good results. I've said many a time that the behaviour of your BGs was definitely one of life's Mysteries. Personally, so long as you feel good within yourself, I go on doing whatever it is you are doing.
